You have the double issue of a boisterous puppy, and one with a flat face. Dogs have certain etiquette around their personal space when it comes to meting other dogs, but brachycephalic breeds kind of have to get even more "in your face" and other dogs can find it quite strange and uncomfortable to have a short faced breed right up close eyeballing them! Just try to relax. It's early days for your two. It will happen given space, guidance, patience and time.

I let my dog and my clients dogs lick my face/cheeks. What I freaking hate is dogs that lick my fingers. I just cannot handle it!

There is a Dobermann next door to me called Vladamir! Vlad for short. I used to bath one named Saber which I quite liked. If I had a big black dog I'd so cal it Princess Fluffy Twinklepaws. Or Prince Fluffy Twinklepaws. Dobermann bring up images of dark stormy things for me so I would probably actually call mine Rage.

I'd have to say "yes" to "you can do better handling this". I'd also like you to remove the word "dominance" from your explanations of her behaviour. It may be popular with Cesar Milan but it rarely applies to pups. If the pup is weeing inside, it's YOU that needs to be put out. You're just not supervising effectively. She simply shouldn't be getting the chance to do it. She needs to either be supervised, or outside or in a crate. One pee inside gets 5 more according to my vet. If she is taken out when she wakes, after eating, and playing it will help. If the head goes down and she starts to sniff, take her out and praise her for doing it. Either supervise or contain her. "No' means NOTHING to a pup. Growling after the event also won't mean a thing. Reward what you want. Socially isolating her for your failure will just build anxiety and I actually wonder if what you are seeing is submissive wetting. Are you staying outside with her and praising her for toileting there? If not, I suggest you start. Lighten up, supervise more and praise like crazy for what you want. It will get easier. But more encouragement and less discouragement will also build a happier more confident pup. :) I agree very much with the highlighted parts. It would be rare for 10 or so week pup to be 'dominant' . I also agree that you might be putting so much pressure on the situation that you may be creating anxiety. An anxious puppy will not learn as well as a relaxed one. If your body language is OTT the puppy may be acting out submissive behaviour, including wetting. when training a baby puppy, remember 'show me, don't tell me' Persist in a calm, consistent manner above all else.

I'd heard of them before and to me they just look a heck of a lot like many of the large bull and mastiff mixes in pounds everywhere. I'd want to see some evidence of heritage!

Thank You! It's so sad to see her and her mum. They really are the sweetest pair.

I groomed this lovely little poppet again last week. Her tumor has grown quite a bit in the 8 weeks since I saw her last. Her mum and I had a teary discussion about her future. It's not going to end well, nothing more than pain relief can really be done now. Her mum is facing having to make a decision before her darling dog slides too far I took some pictures of her tumor. It's now about golf ball size and sits squarely between her eyes and juts up from the natural line of her skull, and protrudes out to about half way down her short muzzle. Some clever hair style disguises it pretty well! She still seems quite well, but its day by day.

Thanks SM Google mosaic and chemara colouring in Labradors and see if anything grabs your attention! It does look suspiciously like a collar could have been the cause, but if the hair is white right down to the roots, maybe you have a groovy mismark !

I can't open those docs. Can anyone post them as pictures
-
We need a picture I have met several brown/chocolate labs that appear solid colour but if you push back the thick hair around the sides of the neck, the undercoat is sort of wheaten to white coloured. Often this occurs in the hair around the pants and through the tail as well.

Gruf would have had sausage for lunch if any sick prick tried that on him!

see I am a wallflower hermit and hate anything that draws attention to me, so having the dog out with me in public is a real problem for me, because people just cant seem to mind their own business and leave me alone. I do not want the attention! I would never impose myself on another dog owner.
-
I would like to take my dog to markets and other public events and places where he is allowed, but I wish people would just leave us the hell alone. I don't take the dog in the hopes of being ambushed a gazillion times for pats and question time. I take the dog so we can have a look around at our leisure. It really really annoys me that if I have a dog with me, people seem to think it is their dog given right to hassle the crap out of us and hold us up and keep us from peaceful enjoyment of the location.

Does Your Dog Sleep Through The Night Without An Outside Trip?
Pjrt replied to kamuzz's topic in General Dog Discussion
The last thing I do before bed is take Gruf out for a wee on command. He knows I won't allow him in until he has given me a wee, even if it is only a squirt. That is anywhere between 8 and 10.30pm. When at home he comes in from last pees, jumps up on the bed, and doesn't budge until between 5.30 and 7am depending if it's a work day or not. The couple of nights a week we stay away from home for work, he has last pees between 8 and 10 pm and goes in his crate locked in until about 7am. If I wake during the night I will take him out for a pee once. The nights he sleeps on the bed at home he never goes out during the night. So he averages at least 8 or 9 hrs sometimes up to 11 hrs. I never limit his water , and when locked in his crate, he has a small bowl of water. He is raw fed and gets his bone meal of the day around 7pm. I'd be wondering if your boys issue is age or health related. Organ dis function, growths putting pressure on organs, nerve damage or pinched nerves the list goes on. Perhaps a thorough vet check and a visit to the chiropractor. ETA.....agh bloody predictive text. I give up! -
I'd say in such a young puppy it is more experimentation and exploration of self than anything else. You need to decide if it is a desired behaviour or not and react accordingly.
-
If she is "swallowing the bones" as in not munching up much before swallowing, it might be already time to move to something bigger, like a 1/2 a raw chicken carcass, to slow down eating and ensure a bit more chewing.
-
I'm betting an 8 week old mini bully would handle a chicken wing pretty easily! If it were my dog I would have no hesitation whatsoever giving a chicken wing to the puppy, supervised of course. I reckon it will take your puppy about a nano second to get the hang of it ! Not nom nom.....

Pet Industry Peak Body In Turmoil After Consumers Misled
Pjrt replied to _PL_'s topic in In The News
It is a bind. Personally I am as much against the "nice big shiny registered commercial puppy breeding facility" as I am the "filthy dirty puppy factory" because nothing can take away the fact that the breeding dogs are kept in wharehoused conditions, be they clean and well staffed, or filthy and neglected. I also agree that banning pet shop sales, while sounding great, may just drive it even further behind closed doors, or open a bigger market for bob and Mary down the street to breed litter after litter in their back yard from dogs with crook knees, cabriolet legs, crappy bites, etc etc, because 'they're so cute everyone should have one" I think Sheridan is on to something...... Let the pet shops decide, and be judged on their decision. Only problem with that is we have the likes of PIAA member stores telling customers that their puppies are from 'registered breeders' ie- big clean registered puppy factories, and the public fall for it thinking the puppies come from what we here think of as the traditional 'registered breeder" For the customer at the pet shop to judge the store correctly, we need better education of the puppy buying public. But when that education is loaded via industry associations etc, it's rough for people to cut through the hype to get to the actual truth. -
TWO no doubt about it. Number ONE looks like she is fleeing an electric shock Number TWO looks like she is happily focused on running towards something

I think Furballs is the prefix!

I was thinking fluff akita or Eurasier also, but I reckon youre on the money with Tibetan Mastiff
-
Oh that is sad news. I actually thought of DOLer Christina when I heard about the accident as I think she's out that way too.

Haha I used to hear them before I saw them when there was a couple being shown over here! Years ago I stayed overnight with a bloodhound breeder in Vic who also had an Otterhound and a Blue Tick. I used to want an Otterhound but now my big scruffy fantasy is a Spinone.
