Washing A Really (Really) Dirty Dog
Pjrt replied to dilemmax's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Honestly use Selsun Blue human shampoo. Not only is it an awesome medicated shampoo it cuts grease and grime cleans super well and leaves coat nice and clean. I know it's off label use but I've been using and recommending to clients for years with great success. If you want a dog product Sebazol (?spelling ) -
For better or for worse and for whatever reasons, the tide of public opposition to Greyhound Racing has turned into a tsunami. The ONLY hope Greyhound Racing has of turning back the tide of public opinion is to act as one with absolute facts and cohesion. And even then I doubt anyone can face down a tsunami. The earthquake happened a long time ago and little after shocks have been rippling through. The Greyhound racing industry has had plenty of warning and chose to either ignore it or fragment to their own corners of the ring or tell fluffy stories of their own special dogs etc, instead of uniting and acting as one. Public opinion is everything here. As an industry it's great that Greyhound racing knows what it knows. That message has not gotten through clearly and decisively to the general public.

Belly band As for breeding, yeah he sort of looks Tibbie ish but could just as much be malt x chi or Pom x chi or shiht x JRT or shih x chi or or or ....... Not let the coat fool you. Small mixed breed.

' Being fast tracked'. Interesting turn of phrase!

Same breed ?? Different breeds, this one is a cobberdog and the older dog was a mixed small white fluffy (very gentle personality) dog but who liked sleeping/cuddling a lot What's a cobberdog? I know it's some sort of a cross breed but can't think what for the life of me. It's mostly a multi-generation labrador x poodle, but also has some spaniels in there - its a breed in development at the moment. I think the MDBA are trying to register it as a Cobberdog and there another group called the Australian Labradoodle Association which is registering it as an "Australian Labradoodle" Ta, I couldn't for the life of me recall if it was the lab x poodle or the other one also supposedly in development which has bulldogs? being crossed That would be the Bosdog I think. If I'm not mistaken the Cobberdog was chosen as a breed name to replace Labradoodle to take them forward towards breed in development and eventually recognised breed as the ANKC will not approve blended breed names. Same with the Bosdog aka Aussie Bulldog

The yellow/gold Selsun has the exact same active ingredient as the original blue but at a much higher volume. I only ever use the original blue so just maybe dilute the gold one a little. One of my clients used it mistakenly once and turned their dog pink! And make sure you shake it well before use as it settles out a lot in the bottle. And yes as show dog says it's important to really get the treatment everywhere. I find these dogs if you can truly clear up the ears you're on your way to success. They use their foot to scratch their ear, then they lick their foot, scratch their belly, lick their privates and around it goes. I find for best coverage at bath time use a large squeeze sauce type bottle. Shake up your shampoo then put a good squirt into the squeeze bottle, fill with tepid water(as cool as the dog will tolerate for skin issue dogs as warm water will stimulate histamines and everything else) give it a good shake and squeeze over the dog rubbing it in as you go. Pay particular attention to feet, ears, armpits, genital area and lip folds and any other problem areas. The pre diluted mix gets more thorough and useful coverage than trying to spread globs of neat shampoo over a pre wet dog.

Everyone has some great input. I'll add that I have a few clients with Westies and Schnauzers with dreadful itchy yeasty skin who've been on the medication and medicated shampoo roundabout without a lot of success. I clearly state it is off label use but I've seen a few miraculous turn around with regular use of Selsun Blue shampoo. I have never ever had any feedback of negative response and mostly very positive. Resistance becomes an issue with many products over time. We've seen it with flea treatments and worm treatments and I believe we see it with the likes of malaseb etc. Also it's only anecdotal observation but it irks me when vets do or suggest 'poodle' feet on dogs that chew and lick them. Personally I think it exacerbates the problem. You can clearly see if the licking has subsided by checking for clean white growth at the skin level without shaving the feet. Just my personal opinion that one but I hate shaving between toes of dogs with irritated feet. Imagine the short prickly regrowth between the toes. I have a couple of Westie clients that request it 'because the vet said' and I've never seen it help or improve the situation

If you've seen it before I'm not questioning that you know what it is but one thing that comes to mind because of the location is the dental access I often see in the salon. Either from an infected tooth or a foreign body entering the flesh inside the mouth and pus and pressure build up a bulge on the external surface of the face until it bursts outwards. So I'd have a thorough exam of the inside of the mouth everywhere if you haven't already.

Haha that's cute.....but what on earth are they sitting in!?
-
It's creepy with those revolting grey tentacles I hope they've taken the dog to the vets now, instead of asking for advice on facebook. Yes I hope so to as it really does look like oral wart and the virus is contagious to other dogs in contact with it esp licky licky kinda contact

I agree I think that's what it is.

Heartworm, Intestinal Worms And Flea Treatments
Pjrt replied to Kjn's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Im sorry to hear about your previous dog. Just last week I had my head bitten off by a poster here with a sick old dog with a history of seizure and skin issues who'd just been vaccinated. And had another seizure a few days after the latest vaccination. When I questioned the intentions of the vet who decided vaccinating an old sick seizure dog who'd very likely had annual vaca it's whole life,I was told they trust their vet. And it was a thread asking about the best commercial dry food for this sensitive skin dog. Here was a dog needing immune support, not insult, if ever I'd heard of one! -
Heartworm, Intestinal Worms And Flea Treatments
Pjrt replied to Kjn's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have to agree here .. I'm in SA in the Murraylands and I do not give heart worm prevention. Weighing up the risk of feeding my dog poisons every day/month/year to the in my opinion, negligable risk of contracting heart worm, I choose to save them from the chemical warfare. Also fleas are not as much of a problem down here as eastern states and northern Aust , so I only treat if my dog happened to pick up fleas. Ticks are generally only an issue if you live north of pt Augusta. We are really fortunate in most of SA, but there seems to be a blanket approach to the whole country in recommending parasite treatments rather than a regional one. I'd rather take a do we really need this approach over a here have your poison just in case kind of approach. Intestinal worming should be done every few weeks as a puppy but past about 12 to 16 wks I only give an intestinal all wormer once or twice a year. -
Tamaruke is the kennel prefix of an Australian Labradoodle breeder from what I know, not a breed of dog
-
I like them both but I think the light in the middle of the second one is so intense that it's the first thing you focus on and sort of forget to see the rest properly , so I'd go with the first one

Generally I would have to agree with your last sentence! Somehow the double income three kid family with ridiculous endless schedules of school work sport parties camps etc etc manage to groom, walk, train and adore their high maintenance coated fluff ball while the retired couple or the family with a stay at homer bring you out of control matted idiot dogs with endless excuses. Generally of course, there are always exceptions!

Any larger low shedding breeds that make good family pets ? I'm thinking Standard Poodle, Airedale,or are they ""Too much dog'' for joe public average family. St.Poo, Portie, IWS, then a little more on the medium size Lagotto, Puli A few other low or non shedders.......afghan, beardie, OES, Bouvier ....... They're all high maintenance coats, and most are very to very very active. Some would make great family pets depending on the level of dedication Airedale shed a bit, not like a Lab, but they do shed fairly. Other large wire coat Deerhound, Wolfhound, Irish Terrier.
-
For better or for worse I think Jo public generally are of the opinion that smaller dogs are easy/easier to train, and perhaps easier to live with if untrained, than larger dogs. Also there is a wider choice of 'non shedding' breeds/types among smaller dogs. society has changed much, dogs not so much. We are witnessing the rise of a more contemporary domestic dog in this country. Many breeds will be left behind, as many before them. To think the breeds we currently recognise as pure are going to be all there ever is, is naive. Sure some will stay, some will change, some will go extinct, and new ones will rise.

Love him! And those videos of you hand stripping him are awesome! Would you believe I lost them all! What!!!?! Not still on FB? Going through a pretty dark patch and feeling like his page was pretty stupid and no one cared etc etc, I press delete and instead of doing the 28 day count or asking if I was sure it just went poof. I lost all the pictures and videos from his page as I delete just about everything and don't back anything up, another quirk of my headspace, needing to get rid of stuff immediately
