  1. Wasn't the limited registration introduced as a way to limit access to Byb , unscrupulous breeders etc , to 'pedigree gene pools ' jump forward and now it hard to even get an entire puppy from a registered breeder. Theyre desexing them en mass before they even go to their new homes. It's complete madness in an already limited environment! of course pedigree pure breed folks will say it's to stop people bastardising their lines, their breed. A long time ago a very successful & wise pedigree breeder said to me in relation to sending his pups out entire and unencumbered 'you know, I'd rather see people cross breed my lines, my breed, than breed poor examples of my lines, my breed'
  2. Yep. Look around at pretty much every platform where a dog is used for an actual purpose and you will see 'working line' animals that vary in appearance, but at a glance, can be identified as a breed or type. And across those platforms you will see out crossing, cross breeding etc, that is done specifically in the interests of improvement for purpose. No, it doesn't always work. When it doesn't they can recognise it and stop it, and when it works, they see it, and use it Meanwhile, Look over at the show ring and you will see breeding exclusively for the sake of purity above all else. what has really gone wrong is certain exclusive groups have stopped being able to see a good dog in front of them. If it doesn't measure up to their exclusive idea of 'standards' then it must be a bad dog.
  3. The minute conformation showing in its modern form started and dogs began being judged against each other to an exacting physical standard was the moment it all went wrong. yes yes it's nice to look at pretty dogs but seriously the conformation ring is little more than a canine catwalk. In days gone A bloke who had a beagle pack wasn't so worried if the dogs ear set and length and tail set and length, colouring, was a bit off. As long as it looked enough like a Beagle and COULD PERFORM THE WORK , he was content. More over, if he came across a dog with incredible work ethic that was sound of mind and body, but didn't look as beagle as he might like, I bet you he'd of matched it up to one of his beagles to see what he got. If he got rubbish he probably shot them all and moved on, but if he got great sound working dogs, I bet he put them back into improving his working pack, all the while, ever vigilant for other dogs he might find useful in development of his pack. He wasn't running a fashion parade, he was running a working pack. Now insert the words, working sheep dog. Go down to a sheep dog trial and watch those amazing dogs. They're not necessarily the prettiest of dogs, and if you ask the handler what breed they are, they probably say who cares. One things for sure, the vast majority of working sheep and cattle dogs in this country don't look like their show ring cousins, you won't find many 'ankc pedigrees' in there. Until the the show dog folks come to terms with their exclusiveness and realise it's completely fundamentally detrimental to their own purpose, they continue to pour the same genes back into the pool, while continuing to exclude more and more genes from the pool, you know, if I'm not mistaken, they pool can only get smaller and smaller.
  4. Would you mind if I posted a shout out in the Aust mobile groomers FB group for you.
  5. Empty thread to play with go.
  6. https://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/information/lowchen.asp Lowchen
  7. I think I would try to choose a small sturdy breed with a bit of nice straight leg under it, and a 'normal' face ( not a short face brachycephalic like ShihTzu for example) breeds that spring to mind are Lowchen & miniature poodle.
  8. Tits has settled in really well. We're like peas in a pod lol!
  9. DGS have a showroom. You'd be welcome to take the trolley in for a fitting. Give them a call. you may need to modify trolley as mentioned.
  10. Have you tried DGS Imports. I think the suburb is Shailer Park. I'm not familiar with the area sorry. But they are one of the bigger groomer go to stores these days.
  11. Yes I'm off to find a dog forum that appreciates dogs, all dogs....
  12. There is such a thing as a Moodle. It is a Maltese mix with a poodle, a mutt, and a Moodle, all at once. Get over it. When people call my grooming shop to book in their Moodle, I know exactly what they are talking about. It's not hard. It is a Maltese type dog mixed with a poodle type dog. No, it's not a pure bred dog, but it is a mixed breed, a mutt, a Maltese x, a poodle x and a Moodle....all of the fore mentioned. Persoally id prefer my clients to use the generally recognised hybrid name for their mix/mutt, when describing their dog. The vast majority match what comes to my mind when I hear the hybrid name. Not all, but most. so for me there is absolutely a Moodle. While purists continue to alienate these dogs and their people just for using a hybrid descriptive name, they drive those buyers and owners further away from the pure breeds and their breeders. No, they are not purebreeds, but is the world really going to stop spinning if people call the moodles, or schnoodles or Cavoodle or whatever?
  13. Marine carpet or fake grass? Or or can you lift the battens and put them down again with no spacing. You'll need a few more battens. Or lay brace board over the whole lot so you have a dance floor not a deck
  14. I believe they are loveable stubborn little asshats of awesomeness !
  15. All I want now after yrs of owning many and varied is to return full circle and find my dream Bouvier pup. It's been on my mind a lot lately I think it needs to happen
  16. Have you spoken to the dogs breeder. That would be my first line of enquiry as they may be happy to have him back or have people waiting for available dogs. My my main concern here if the dog is entire that's ok at this age but any dog with hip issues should not be a candidate for breeding ever. So rehoming this dog at this time you really must somehow ensure he can't be used for breeding. Be aware that byb trying to source entire animals will send in contract buyers with all the right answers/situations in their behalf. Then take the dog straight to the real buyer.
  17. It's the one you don't get checked that will bite your arse! For peace of mind get it checked. 99% of the time they are benign fatty cysts and sebaceous cysts etc...... The vet can check it out, and record its size for future reference. if you decide not to have it checked now, check it regularly. If it changes colour or shape, or grows rapidly, off to the vet immediately. the other thing to consider is the location of it. I have seen so many pets with benign fatty lumps left until it grows so large that they end up stepping around it, chafing against it, or having not enough skin cover left when removing a giant lump that would have been super easy to remove when small. . So consider what would happen if the lump continued to grow, would it impact on the dogs mobility and comfort etc.
  18. I'm all for LEAVING firmly attached rear dew claws, and all front dew claws. in all my years working with dogs the percentage of dew claw issues overall is pretty small. My recently adopted 6.5yo Maltese cross has firmly attached rear dew claws on both legs. I was really concerned the RSPCA shelter would take them off when they desexed him. It's a brutal surgery to take out well attached dew claws off an adult dog. I can't tell you how happy I was to find them still there!
  19. It was lovely to meet you too Perse. And im so glad you got to meet my Tits! Those photos are too cute. You certainly made the best of them!
  20. I'd also go with individual temperament/breeder recommendations....... as long as it's a boy
  21. Please at least phone an after hrs vet. They will ask you specific questions to help work out if you should rush in immediately or monitor until morning and go in first thing for s check up. A puppy of this age doesn't need to be sick very long to crash on you. good luck.
