  1. I only do washing, but charge $20 a dog. Thats for people to bring their dog to me. All my clients pay the same except for a owner of a large mal who is alot more work. Some I make more money on than others, but it was just my choice to make it easier by having one set price.
  2. I keep RIleys frontline up all year round, but Ill have to start checking him more often again now! Bloody ticks!
  3. Maybe Vaseline??? Others might have some better suggestions
  4. Another that reccommends rescue remedy here. Ive used it on myself and Riley.
  5. When my aunty's cat was diagnosed with diabetes they were terrified of giving him the injection. A month later and it was just part of their daily routine. I know when I had to inject my aunty's cat Lucky, he didnt even flinch when I did it. He'd just keep purring away. Maybe they feel alot better after the injection, and therefore don't mind having it done.
  6. My aunty's cat who I have been looking after had diabetes. (Not a dog I know, but I thought id add it anyway.) Unfortunately I had to send him over the bridge last week, but he lived a happy healthy life with diabetes up to the age of 14. We had to give him an injection a day, but besides from that and just making sure there was always alot of fresh water available it was very easy to manage.
  7. lone-silverwolf - sorry to hear about your loss. Its so hard to know that they are in pain, yet have no way of really telling you. I felt awlful that I hadnt picked it up earlier, but the vet said what Lucky had happened really quickly and there was nothing that could of been done. I thought Lucky was about 10, but my cousin who orginally adopted Lucky from the RSPCA said he would of been closer to 14. So he did very well considering he had diabetes. Its really difficult going out in the morning and him not being there waiting for breakfast. I havent moved his bowl yet...I havent had the courage to do it, so its still sitting next to the door.

    More On Food

I use Carrots and Peas alot when I cook mince for Riley. I mix it all up and he loves it. He also gets a bit of brocolli if theres any left over from our dinner regarding cooking mince - I have to cook Riley's otherwise he wont touch it! He's a little bugger some times!
  9. Yep Riles had the dentasticks you can get at the supermarket - I think they're pedigree ones. With Riley's nylabone I always keep a eye on it and after it wears down alot I chuck it out and give him a new one. That way it doesnt get too small.
  10. Riley's got a Nylabone (As mentioned above), he also loves carrots (I cant give the rabbit one without giving him one too!!) and also he has a denta stick once a week.
  11. I had to get my aunty's cat Lucky pts earlier on tonight. He had a urinary tract infection amongst a few other things and went downhill very quickly today. He was around 10 years old and was diabetic. We were advised, and also thought it would be best to send him over the bridge to be free of pain. He will be sadly missed and we won't forget him. Lucky helping us celebrate my birthday on Sunday night.
  12. No dog should go for a nose up to anything/anyone without owners aproval. That is IMHO a definition of a responsible ownership. The reality is that hardly any dog can do that - mine included, although I strive to achieve that. Now Im confused as some say come and some say dont, I dont want to cramp anyones style. I can just see Riley turning around now and asking in all the excitement if he can go up to another dog and play. I'll catch up with everyone at the next one. Im giving this one a miss. Since I havent got 100% recall Riley and I will go to the local off leash park instead
  13. When Riley (Kelpie X) was a pup he used to do the same thing. As soon as we walk he thought it was a huge game to run up and try and "Catch" out ankles. I used to stop, say No firmly and put him in the laundry for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes he could come out. If he did it again he'd go back in the laundry for another 5 minutes. Luckily this worked very well for us and it didnt take long for him to stop this behaviour.
  14. Just adding, even if all the DOLers did have great recalls with their dogs, who says the other dogs in the park are going to??
  15. I'll be away then, but will definately come to some of the others.
  16. I know im being akward but it would be good if it could alternate between satudays and sundays.
  17. I normally crush riley's tablets up and mix it with a small bit of yoghurt.
  18. Also have you decided where you want the door? Conmurra gives a choice..not sure if Fido's do?. You can either get it on the side or the front of the Hydrobath. I got mine at the front purely because of the layout of my shed, but I also like it because the dogs can get in and out easily. In the hydrobath with the side doors, Riley used to always find it awkward to get out of the bath as he wasnt good at walking backwards. (he wasnt smart enough to turn around!)
  19. I ended up tossing up between fido's and conmurra's and evenutally picked Conmurra. I think a big factor in me choosing conmurra was because I got really good customer service off them when I made all my enquiries, but also because I could see the actual hydrobath at Pet Barn down here in Syd. I think either way you will get a good one.. I haven't heard anything bad about Fido baths.. Not a very good picture, but this is how mine is connected up...there is a similar pipe thing fitted on the other side to, so I can drain out the water. (not very good with the technical terms, my dad actually hooked it all up)
  20. Unfortunately by the time we realised about puppy preschool , Riley was too old. We took him to obedience classes though. If we get another dog we will definately be prepared for puppy preschool so we dont miss out again.
  21. I always use priceless pets - Ive found them absolutely fantastic. I couldn't fault their service. I always get my order about 2 days after I place it. I reccommend them to everyone - so many people don't know it exists and pay a huge price at the vets.
  22. Not sure if its too late for suggestions, but I bought the Holidaying with dogs book on the weekend and there are a few listed in Armidale. Be-ambolong cottage and farm stay 5 mins from town (fenced) 02 6771 2019 allowed inside, prior arrangment only Georges Creek Cottages B & B farmstay accommodation 20km from highway (Fenced) 02 6779 4235 prior arrangement only. on leash and under control. another in Uralla is Gwydir Getaway farmstay B & B fenced 02 6723 7234 managers discretion - prior arrangement only. We had alot of problems when trying to take Riley away - it would say pet friendly but then we kept getting told "little dogs only!"
  23. We had a big issue when Riley was a pup with him chewing all the wood on the deck (it all had to get replaced in the end!!) He's behaviour was triggered off when his best mate (our duck) passed away. We tried everything from sprays to chilli powder, but he'd just lick it all off then keep chewing. In the end we extended his walks in the morning to tire him out more, and also distracted him from the wood with a sand pit. We used to bury good - o's in the sand for him to find. He still chewed the wood occassionally, but it did improve when we gave him something else to do, and aslo as he got older.
  24. We ended up putting a sand pit in the spot where RIley kept digging (luckily it was in a corner). Now he still digs in the one spot, and also likes to lye on the sand to cool down in summer.
  25. Unfortunately, not all dogs do. Some dogs just generally get car sick and never grow out of it. My aunty's dog was car sick his whole life - he passed away at 16. Riley's 5 now and still gets sick after 15mins in the car if he hasnt has a car sickness tablet. He loves the car too, but he just gets motion sickness.
