Horses For Courses: Is $400 Phar Lap In The Pal?
inez replied to Sheridan's topic in Dog Cruelty and Abuse News
What a peculiar thing to say? Is there anyone who does not find such sight confronting? No one is criticizing the poster of the Video of Natures Child? Where is the difference, except in the video I posted it is of humane slaughter ticking every box? The truth is not acceptable? I did not post it to ‘shock’. To admit I am upset by both is a cause for you to criticize me? Was the poster of the first acceptable because they did not say how they felt? The poster of the first video is not panned for doing so, the creators of it describe the animals videoed as being frantic and in fear which is blindly obvious they are neither. They say the movement after death is indicative of them still being conscious. Which again the second video proves is in fact normal. I did post it to show cattle can be far more upset in a box than either Natures Child or her companion was. Also that is equally noticeable these cattle although completely unconscious still have reflex movement, which can only be prevented by injection to induce complete paralysis which cannot be done in either instance at these places or the meat cannot be used. -
OH my giddy aunt? It not only is not gay, it isnt even a Bulldog. It is incredibly lucky its not in good old BSL Australia that is for sure.

Have you viewed the videos of the "frantic and scared" and/or " fearfully rushed into the ‘killing box’"horses in this clip? http://www.animalsaustralia.org/take_action/stop-knackery-abuse Disgusting as these callus men treated these horses, Natures Child's body language was neither, "frantic, scared or fearful", nor was the other horse it didnt have a clue what the idiot weilding the pipe wanted of it. she was a old girl who wondered what this pair of idiots were doing. Their ability to communicate without that bloody plastic pipe should have had them charged as much for their cruelty in how they dispatched the horses in their charge. then the 'calm' cattle in the kill pen? They work hard to keep them calm 500 to 1000 kg of fearful bovine can not only snap fences like twigs, they also send their meat purple and unsaleable when stressed, same applies to horses, chooks. These men obviously do know their job, doesnt make it any less awful to watch, the chap above the killing box has the stun gun and uses it at 1.27 into the clip, the first one doesnt look like it even saw it comming the second at 2.24, IS TERRIFIED. Just because you do not have the same affection for cattle does not make them any less capable of terror and they get VERY scared of strange noises and sights. just watch a load in a semi at the lights staring in fear at the weird cars they have never seen before. ALL slaughter is confronting regardless I know how sick watching either video made me feel -

What is even simpler, if someone wants a good riding horse or a kids pony and its at a auction guess what? You do not need to ban auction's you do not need to shut down doggers. All they need to do is outbid the doggers. It is rather common knowledge they have a very set limit and are easily outbid. What makes it a right to demand doggers be put out of business so cheap ponies are available? I fail to understand why anyone is prepared to pay more for a dog than the majority would ever be prepared pay out for a horse or pony with three and more times the lifespan of a dog? -

This facile talk of horses are not suitable for meat just because you LOVE your horse doesnt cut it. My best pet of all time was a pig, she was simply amazing, every one who has ever been up close and personal with a pet pig will tell you the same thing. No self respecting pig will soil its bed, they roll in mud not feces, they love to be clean, their mud bath is their SPF50. Where is the pig libbers? Just because they dont smell delightfull, or their face doesnt make you feel all warm and cuddly towards them, is surely a poor excuse to leave this creature with significantly far greater inteligance than every other species that goes along with them to the same fate so many believe no horse, or dog for that matter (pigs are smarter than dogs, how many of you know that?) should face? compliments of google , “No man should be allowed to be President who does not understand hogs.” Most people know very little about these fascinating animals. In fact, pigs are curious and insightful animals thought to have intelligence beyond that of an average 3-year-old human child. They are smarter than dogs and every bit as friendly, loyal, and affectionate. When in their natural surroundings, not on factory farms, they are social, playful, protective animals who bond with each other, make beds, relax in the sun, and cool off in the mud. Since most people are not that familiar with pigs, you may be surprised to learn that they dream, recognize their names, play video games more effectively than some primates, and lead social lives of a complexity previously observed only in primates. People who run animal sanctuaries often describe pigs with human characteristics, because they’ve learned that, like humans, pigs enjoy listening to music, playing with soccer balls, and getting massages." -

Actually we have transported both and you may be astonished to discover the skin cuts the same,(in fact even though the hide IS thicker, Ive never heard a horse scream in pain like the cattle do, when I put the needle in for their tetanus shots, cattle do, Husband thought he would do the bull tied to the fence one day instead of in the crush, the bull hit the roof and tried to rub the needle out and squash hubby in the process, their skin seems far more sensitive from what I have seen with our own cattle than when I put the same size needle into one of my horses) bruises the same, thats why trucks have to be free of dangerous surfaces, even "have a consistent head/brain shape and bone density" for both species. "Pepe some gallopers deal with these things just fine, some don't and when they don't things go very bad very quickly." same applies to Bos Indicus cattle, they will quite easily kill themselves, along with you too of course, witout a qualm in the world if you think you can treat them same as a Bos Taurus. Horses, Donkeys, Mules, Cattle, Sheep, goats and pigs have one thing in common, they are all domesticated species. Regardless of how many you may choose to keep as a pet, does not preculude them from being a souce of meat in a large proportion of the world. How you face that fact is frankly a personal problem. -

What a foolish thing to say? Even human meat has been on the menu in case no one remembers. Where the human race is concerned, somewhere, someplace EVERYTHING and anything, is 'bred for meat' If you had a clue as to the inteligance of Pigs they certainly do not think they were born to be eaten. This is a species with just about double the brains and learning ability of a horse or a dog, so just what do you think denotes which breeds or species are acceptable as being "bred for meat"? Selective breeding in meat animals is different to selective breeding in racehorses, most meat animals are bred firstly for meat quality and secondly for docility to make them easier to handle and process, racehorses are bred to run fast and have a lightning quick reaction time. Not traits which facilitate a smooth and stress free slaughter process. Before you accuse me of being foolish perhaps you need to look at what it means to achieve a humane slaughter and how often it is realistically achieved, even in purpose bred meat animals the handling, stun and slaughter is not always perfect and stress free so add in factors such as heightened flight reactions to stressed animals and you reduce the likelihood of good welfare outcomes further. Which may I ask you has the 'heightent' flight response? The sheep, goat or cow?, that has NEVER been haltered, led and groomed, hand or brush on the forehead to have its face and forlock brushed, accustomed to people all around it all hours of the day or night or the off the track tb who has? Which one is going to be afraid when a human comes near enough to place the stun gun to their forehead without going inside their "flight" zone? I for one do not think it will be the ex racehorse. Don't like the comfort zone resoned? Sorry pepe001 didn' spot you had already covered that, spot on -
This spotted on a facebook page. one cute u know what equally been up to mischief, Willett House Veterinary Surgeons Yesterday was a tale of two sorry dogs who got their noses into more than they bargained for! Mono, a rescued greyhound cross, who is owned by our very own nursing assistant, Julie, decided to snuffle out the family's Easter eggs and ate over three times the toxic dose of chocolate for dogs. He was followed just an hour or so later by Bo, a two year old Jack Russell Terrier, who put her nose in her owner's fishing tackle and came out with a hook on her nose! Mono was found with Easter egg wrappings all around him when Julie returned from work and had potentially eaten the chocolate up to 6 hours previously. This meant that the toxic part of the chocolate had already had time to be absorbed. He was rushed down to us and was made to be sick to bring up anything left in the stomach and given charcoal to absorb some of the chocolate further down the digestive tract. However he was already feeling rather poorly and was suffering from hypertension (high blood pressure), tachycardia (an extremely high heart rate) and an abnormal heart rhythm. In severe cases this can be fatal and so Mono was closely monitored around the clock. Fortunately, this morning all of this had returned back within normal levels and he was discharged to a much relieved Julie. Bo, on the other hand, was still a very bright and happy Jack Russell despite her escapade with the fish hook. But with no one wanting to leave her with a nose piercing for long something had to be done. Due to the barb on the hook we couldn't just pull it back out the way it had gone in. In the end, she needed a heavy sedation in order to remove the barb and allow retrieval of the hook. However, she quickly woke up from her sedation and was home again the same evening to get into mischief once again! —

A friend is a wreak these days, a pedafile was disturbed in the process of breaking into her granddaughters bedroom, to gain access he had broken a locked gate, let their dog out onto the street where it could have been run over, frightented the daylights out of the granddaughter whose screams brought her single parent mother running to confront the man trying to get through the broken window. Where are her rights? The monster apparently lives nearby, was until now unkown to them. Very well known to the police. The best she is allowed by law is a restraining order from entering her premisis or comming within a set distance of her and her child. As many know such pieces of paper are often still in the grasp of the victum when found. yet the perpertrator is still "innocent until proven guilty". She cannot go search his home for evidence? he never managed to get through the window before running off, so the police are "powerless" to charge him with anything. where and when does she gain the right to hound this terror from their neighbourhood? If he owned an undesexed dog, she most certaintly could, thanks to the reasoning of so many here.

As some one said earlier, weird that a pedafhile has far greater rights, than anyone suspected to have a bitch in pup? Especially since the main target is registered breeders? "According to the PIAA, 450,000 dogs are sold nationally each year. Of these, only 15 per cent - or 67,500 - are bought in pet shops." Yet a quick google of the ANKC National records reveal GRAND TOTAL; of puppies registered, Australia wide per year 1986 95,792...Austranian Population 1986 15,788,000 to within one thousand. 1987 97,917.........................1987 16,018,000 1988 92,089........................1988 16,263,000 1989 86,586..........................1989 16,532,000 1990 87,768..........................1990 16,814,000 1991 82,062..........................1991 17,065,000 1992 80,693..........................1992 17,284,000 1993 80,071..........................1993 17,494,000 1994 85,415..........................1994 17,667,000 1995 81,389..........................1995 17,854,000 1996 84,718..........................1996 18,071,000 1997 68,637..........................1997 18,310,000 1998 89,922..........................1998 18,517,000 1999 73,061..........................1999 18,711,000 2000 77,559..........................2000 18,925,000 2001 69,946..........................2001 19,153,000 2002 69,419..........................2002 19,413,000 2003 66,710..........................2003 19,651,000 2004 64,189..........................2004 19,895,000 2005 62,340..........................2005 20,127,000 2006 61,524..........................2006 20,394,000 2007 64,074..........................2007 20,697,000 2008 63,387..........................2008 21,015,000 2009 66,588..........................2009 21,262,000 2010 66,040..........................2009 21,262,000 2011 63,465..........................2011 22,485,000 2012 64,224 Australian population is estimated to be 22,933,392 as of 15 March 2013. What does this tell us? 385,776 dogs PER YEAR, DID NOT come from registered breeders. In any language thats an awfully lot of dogs. So WHERE ARE THEY COMMING FROM? Although the population has grown by 6,697,000 (six million +) there are 31,568 less registered puppies bred for them to choose from than in 1986

Dont Bet on it. There was a pretty high profile case in a chihuahua puppy, the sire was Gates Adam a very definate longcoat and cant remember the name of the mother, she too was a unmistakable longcoat. DNA proved absolutely the smoothcoat pup was their puppy. Ask Dogs NSW about it, cannot remember when but it was the talk of the chihuahua world at the time. The new owner of the pup wanted papers and was determined to get them. DNA gave him just that. Some one goofed bigtime when they said two longcoats cannot produce a smoothcoat.

Just being ignorent here, but aren't Amstaff's really Pitbulls? Not quite..there was a breed divide. Yes, one is registered, the other isnt. Look up past and present of just about every registered breed to see how many changes the show ring does to the original in the pursuit of "maintaining the standard" somehow it always seems to end up more like "improving " it out of recognition.
-
I have seen many links to kennels discussing this subject before but cant remember where they are now Essentially a pitbull and a Amstaff is the same as an Alsation is to a German Shepherd. Same body, different label depending on who wants which connontation.

Its almost at the end of the Huge warehouse to your right as you come down the street, their entrance will be on your left and they have their own carpark. I picked up my boy there when he arrived from tassie, the staff were great, I had no trouble phoning them. How scary for you not being able to get through

What is it about this sentence that makes me think "warning, warning, Will Robinson" as that darned robot used to say. You bought a Limit Register pup, she will never be registered as anything but a pet. You will not be able to show her, you will not be able to breed from her or register any pups as purebred. Do you understand that? Limit register is simply the official replacement for the hand written pedigree breeders used to supply to the buyer of a pet puppy. she is recognised as the purebred produce of her parents, but can never produce a recognised purebred puppy. Apologies if you do already know this. An amazing number of people do not.

I gave a puppy to a 'friend' as a house pet, definately pet only, desexed when old enough, I was assured. I recently visited, to my dismay she has a litter of oodle cross puppies? All sold already, if I heard right? for $1,500 each? What sort of idiots pay so much for what is essentially a mongrel?
-
I wouldnt be putting too much faith in the "animal control people" know a friend just brough home a rescue dog. was told its a German Shorthaired pointer? It does have floppy ears, it is basically white with spots, but, ive never seen a gold GSP with sable tips to the coat. the ears are half the size they should be and it sure lacks the head shape? Part cattle part goodness knows what I'd be thinking. Suspect it hasnt even any GSP in it. So much for getting even close to a breed description let alone breed. with this one. bought it as a family pet and train but will it have any of the GSP traits they were expecting. Only time will tell

I well remember the first litter I bred, by a friends stud. To my horror all 4 had both umbilical and two groin hernias. so big they needed surgical closure. When I told the owner of the sire, her first words were "But they said he wouldnt pass that on" She had paid big for a "stud and show quality male" with all three hernia's. MY girl had none, neither did her parents. So I was "not happy jan" What caused me to believe they certainly are inherited. she had three litters to different sires with no hernia's (asked and checked after the first disaster) and never had another occur in any.

Steve,I understand that, and i am working on my own submission. Those who are supposedly speaking for "my group" are mostly pushing their own agendas ,often comercial ventures and D.Ds. The real stake holders are those that buy these dogs, whatever their source and most of them are blissfully unaware of all thats going on behind the scenes. They are the ones who happily sign cleverly worded petitions by Peta and welfare groups with out any understanding of what it all means to their choices and options. There are few avenues of engaging these people and opening their eyes to the real, broad picture.Their education in these matters is very limitted, though they often sign with the best of intentions. I am saying there needs to be ways these people can experience a broader view of pet ownership and where their dogs come from. The value of pedigree dogs etc. BTW a point worth mention is the "hybrid vigour" slogan trotted out by D.D breeders and refuted here lies some where between.Hybrid vigour is proven, but true hybrids are inter species, not with in species and are infertile mostly.Any hybrid vigour within species is nominal, but there only due to closed lines of pedigree animals and valid only in the 1st cross. At least thats been my understanding.A bit more discourse and less animosity between ALL groups can only benefit, surely. What I dont understand is why those who do have dogs and breed do not become members of these organisations so they are the majority membership instead of the PETA lunies? surely those who actually have the animals referred to should be the ones in this organisations so there are actually people who do know running them instead of the fanatics? its in dog and cat owners interests to be surely?

Yes i too found the letter very weird.. It went in the too hard basket for me.. What would it of cost to send them out? Have you forgotten the Mrs Furbur incident? "They" wasted over $800,000 of members money going to court to do what? Prevent Mrs Furbur from finding out something. It was a very long time ago now but I think it was she wondered why the secretary of the canine council had been supplied with a car worth more than the chairman? So, what, you may say, since in normal company policy, the value of vehicles issured to staff is less the lower down the rank it goes, so there was a reason to make her wonder and ask why? This was a valid question since it was against normal company, all companies should I add, policy. She was not given a satisfactory answer so wanted to see the records to see why and how this had occurred. except she was refused access to said records. Considering the lady was a member of the board of directors you could be forgiven for being of the same opinion as I, she was a duly elected member and had right to access anything in the records she wanted. But no the rest of the board banned her from access so she took them to court. and after a very long dragged out process ultimately lost on appeal, the board that is Not Mrs Furbur. and WHY did the board waste so many hundreds of thousands of members money you may ask? "Because" I was told, "she was wasting staff time asking them to get the files" Now you tell me ,someone, anyone? How many hundred they could have employed to wait on her hand and foot with the $800,000 they fed into the court system to stop her "wasting staff time"? Is it just me or was there a very strong smell of rat in the air? Even more strange, the secretary resigned when the battle was lost? Coincidence No idea how many of the fellow directors voted for that incredible waste of resources to fight a legitatimately elected member to their own board. Equally no idea who Mr Couchman has offended, but so hope this sorry mess isnt dragged along to the detriment of all. I too was astonised to see that letter. I have never heard or seen a single person say anything but good about this amazing man. So was apalled to see this arrive Frankly I hope everyone who has received this digusting attack against such a person who has worked so hard for all votes NO IN EVERY ONE OF THOSE BOXES. As for learning about the sending the RSPCA after him as well, just goes to show how low the perpertrator is prepared to go. Get off your collective butts and VOTE NO to both motions or you will ALL be the losers in this sorry tale. This is certainly one case where the usual lethargy of members to not bother to vote will be to their total detriment and the trouble maker is counting on you doing just that, they would certainly be busy rallying votes confidant in the belief the majority wouldnt have a clue or do anything and so they win by default

Rspca Proposals For A Mandatory Code For Puppy Farmers.

fat lot of good security camera's will do if the theives are unknown or can't be recognised. Bye bye pups and maybe adult dogs as well, never to be seen again. Even if the theives are caught what are the chances of you getting your dogs back? And as for having a large, not friendly dog, you have to be kidding don't you, there's even more trouble waiting to bite some one on the arse, not to mention people are already restricted on how many dogs they can keep. One of my dogs saw the vet for the 1st time in 3 years recently, another hasn't seen a vet for at least 4. No need for them to. Can't believe this rubbish has come from you Souff. Being a Security Officer/Special constable for the past 15 years for a NSW Public hospital ED and also some Static work for K9 Security I know for a fact that Security Equipment is expensive and not all the time are tapes clear to identify offenders and not all the time are they excepted in a Court of Law. Besides the Law is not tough enough on offenders, especially where animals are concerned. I had a dog taken once and rang police and because I knew who it was I was told it was a Civil matter. Oh I got my dog back my way and since then extra security measures have been taken but honestly if a good thief wants to get in to steal something, they will and won't worry who they hurt in the process. So why should we have to let people know where we live and what we have! Pretty neatly worded too, would I be mistaken they have you over a barrel, if you dont want to comply then hey, obviously then you must have something to hide. So agree, pay, and give out your address or.................. Somehow I doubt they give a rats you might come home and no dogs left. -
what a breath of fresh air. of course thats not what newspapers or the media want to hear. maybe this should become one of those chain emails instead of the constant flow of crap, pass this on and u will win a zillion dollars. delete and doom will fall our emails are flooded with daily?

you havent gone mad, had a bitch deliver two pupies 2 weeks early, no chance of survival barely had fur, then stop labour. put on antibiotiocs and hope and two weeks later the rest of the litter arrived pefectly healthy.
