  1. Same here. Tried Welness Supermix Senior and also the Large Breed one. Both caused waaaay too much diarrhoea to my dog. And also caused very poor coat. After 3-4 weeks of this issue, I had to put it back to Canidae and then she is now back to normal.
  2. If you're into Bison meat, try this grain free range. Mostly top review. http://www.robbospetbarn.com.au/products/p-4938/GRAIN-FREE/CANIDAE-GRAIN-FREE-PURE-LAND-ALL-NATURAL-DOG-FOOD-13.6KG.aspx Delivery is free Mel wide.
  3. Not sure what the joke is in regards to 'Deshonko' but your last paragraph was well and correctly expressed. We are lucky that we can tell the difference between Royal C and Taste OTW. Some people are not even conscious of the contents and just blindly buy premium dog food with assumptions it's better than cheap supermarket ones. Sometimes they are the same quality! Yes, that was me.
  4. ETA? Estimated Time Of Arrival? Agree, some people have done much researched for years. And part of the resarch could be as simple as analytically looking at the nutrition contents...which is what these reviews are all about. It's pretty objective. You & I can deduce a very similar conclusions with it. The reviews is just a piece of paper and as you rightly pointed out, not all top rating dog food are suitable for certain dogs. Some just failed miserably. All I'm saying is, have a look at the reviewed ingredients and if you feel it's 'bad' then consider another product. Yes, the vet may say go with what they kept in store but I'm sure if they could be confronted with exactly what her dog can eat, there should be plan B. To be candid, I'm quite dumbfounded that a Julesp dog needs more filler type dog food. Looking at the reviews of Hills Pet Nutrition Hills Prescription K/D ...I'm not trying to be an ass here but if the dog prefers more filler and no real meat stuff, then there should be quite a handful to choose from in the common supermaket. I seriously don't get this. For example, the starter of this topic mentioned that he/she needs allergen free dog food. I would then ask the vet exactly what the dog is allergic to. If it's grain (the most likely candidate), then grab some of those grain-free range from various brands. The 'Hills Z/D' ingredients is just..nasty! It's similar to human condition. If my doctor says I'm lacking Vit C and he said to buy his home made orange juice then I may buy some, but I would also consider to buy grapefruit from somewhere else or even the Home Brand blackcurrent juice. Let's put it this way, Hills stuff are not medicine! They are just food that was marketed to have a medicine look and feel. It's a game changer if the doctor is actually prescribing me and selling an official medicine and not regular food.
  5. Really? I think if you look at the ratings you will see that they haven't rated the prescription range because they understand that the rules change when treating an illness. I'm not sure how are you going to change the game. If it's 1-star rating, it's like buying the cheapest junk dog food from the supermaket. I've nothing against cheap supermaket dog food cos I know of dog owners who use them and that's fine..., but if it's priced at the top end for a psuedo scientific premium food, then it makes you wonder what's going on. All the junk by product meats (that is not 'meat meal'), low graded filler, cancer causing presevatives (banned for human food use), allergy causing corn, soya, etc makes you wonder what the heck are they sitting in an animal hospital or vet clinic. So, that you can re-visit the vet more?!? http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/showcat.php?cat=all&stype=1&si=hills Heh man, take a look at the reviews and make an informed decision.
  6. I'm sorry for your lost. I didn't know that. http://www.wherearethepetfoodchampions.com I guess the product itself is still good if the extra heating/irradiation process did not occur. I mean, how else it gets top star rating and pet food of the year award in overseas. Anyway, this brand has such a bad name here in Australia, I'm sure no supplier is going to import again.
  7. Looks like a all-star-rating dog food. http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/?s=+Orijen http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/showcat.php?cat=all&stype=1&si=Orijen Wish there's a place in Aust that we could try some of them out.
  8. If you have desire to start a new brand of dog food, I suggest you do some simple reading of reviews out there. http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/ http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/ I hate to say it, but the packaging and the commercialism of dog food can be very deceiving. I had fed popular premium food and even bought food endorsed by most vets here in Aust, but was then shocked to find out from the abovementioned reviews that they are mostly in par with the quality of cheap supermarket dog food. The dog food you select may not be suitable for your dog, but at least as a starting point you know on review it's of good quality. I wish I knew much earlier!
  9. As a starting point, you can try Canidae Free Grain range. http://www.robbospetbarn.com.au/products/c-362/DOGS/FOOD/SUPER-PREMIUM/CANIDAE/GRAIN-FREE.aspx I must confess I'm no expert with allergens, but I know it's usually triggered by grains. I do confidently know however that Sc Diet and Royal Canine 'vet' or 'medical' looking range are usualy on a very low quality one. Yes, they maybe free from allergens but they are generally rated very poorly. http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/?s=science+diet http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/
  10. How much is it from a retail store? Pretty good price here. Free delivery for Mel. http://www.robbospetbarn.com.au/products/c-306/DOGS/FOOD/SUPER-PREMIUM/BLACK-HAWK.aspx
  11. These people has 'OK' prices for general dog food and they sell Evo! http://www.mypetwarehouse.com.au/store/advsearch.asp?submitted=1&hideoptions=1&product_departmentid=12&product_brandname=EVO Whether it's good or bad food, I guess the best deal is to judge that yourself via proper review. http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/ and http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/
  12. Since passing my labrador with 2 packets of Wellness (I mixed Senior and Large breed versions), she has been having very liquid diarrhoea and passing lotsa gasses! I thought this could be an interim process given it was a transition from a different brand, but it has been going on for weeks now. She never had any issues with other common brands. There are some issues found here as well www.terrificpets.com/forum/54661_3.asp#lastpost
