A good friend and handler in the States has them. Her Dogos live very happily with the Border Collies without a grumble between them. They are the biggest sooks and climb up on your lap for a cuddle. You certainly know you've got a Dogo in your lap that's for sure Love them xx

There are some fantastic agility Border Collies out there that come from show lines. Calanais, WInpara, Danari, Nahrof, Dalheath to name just a very few. I'm extremely proud of one girl in particular that I bred, who has had a wonderful agility career. Good luck in your search. xx

Kelly has a team of dogs and all of them are trained to do work. She even had a Pug (may still have him but he'd be very old now) at one stage and has trained her cat for commercial work as well. She's a gifted trainer that's for sure

Maybe you should ask the Oscar's Law people? They should be happy to tell you what they are about, surely? LOL. Yes just ask on facebook and see how fast your questions get deleted. THIS!!! I got into a "discussion" on their FB page about the "don't buy while a shelter dog dies" saying. Trust me when I say THEY ARE NOT SUPPORTIVE OF ETHICAL PURE BRED DOG BREEDERS, no matter what their website states!!! They despise us and think we are the devil. My argument is this: If we stop ALL ethical dog breeding until the last shelter/unhomed dog finds a home, what then? If it takes years, what then? They are effectively supporting the extinction of many many pure bred dogs, and they expect people to support them!! Bugger that!!! Not one single person on their FB page could answer my questions. Not one person on their FB page could give me a solution to wiping out entire pure bred breeds and for my troubles I was deleted!! For that reason I refuse to support Oscars Law.

This is great except when you have a young Male Afghan! LOL. Sometimes it pays not to watch the first couple of dogs in the ring as some Judges use them to work out what works for the ring. I had this happen a few times. Go in with the Afghan and the Judge gets me to do one thing, go in later with the Wolfie and it is different. Fortunately I do keep an eye on what they are doing in-between. This might be a Hound ring thing, due to the difference in sizes of the breeds, some Judges will do different things for different size dogs - Large circle for the big dogs and straight to the table for little dogs etc. If you're not sure always ask the Steward, they usually know what the Judge requires. This is one I need to work on. I have a habit of letting some handlers and or dogs get to me. That has happened to me a few times over the years so I should amend that to read, watch the ring a few minutes BEFORE your turn LOL. Makes it hard though when you are A for Afghan. At least B for Border Collie there are plenty of dogs in the ring before me

Before I even get out of bed on the morning of a show, I run through the day in my head. I always go through the motions and picture the outcome I want. When I'm at the show, I spend five minutes watching the judging to see what the judge wants the exhibitor to do. I then don't watch the ring at all until it's getting close to my turn in the ring. Deep breaths, chew mints (it masks the nerves) Concentrate Listen to the judge's instructions I HATE HATE HATE people staring down judges. I glance at them to make sure I'm doing what is required and so I don't miss any cues. I always spot the judge when doing out and backs so my dog is in their line of vision not me. I don't listen to other people while i'm in the ring. Inside the ring it's all about the judge outside I'm happy to chat. Learn to be gracious in defeat before you can ever be gracious as a winner. Watch other handlers at the show and find one who you really admire as a handler. Watch them carefully, go home and practice what you see, and try to emmulate them. Try try try to see it for what it is, a fun day out, that one judge's opinion win or lose, and the fact that there is always another dog show. Leave your wins and losses in the marshalling area, and don't dwell on mistakes. Learn from them but don't beat yourself up. The best handlers in the world still make mistakes.

$50 and result in 90 minutes. I'd be very concerned about a 3 day turnaround for results as well. A bitch can spike very quickly and could be easily missed.

9 here at the moment. Ages ranging from 11 years to 3 months. Luckily we live on acreage and I spend the majority of my time outside with the dogs. I have four house girls aged 11, 10,9.8. The rest sleep in the dog room of a night. We are lucky enough to have a sunroom that's been converted to cater for all my dogs' needs and it means I get to have them close to me at all times. I don't find 9 a bother at all and can easily manage that number and meet all their needs. We have had 13 here and I found that a little too many. I found myself spending all my time feeding, cleaning, poo patrol and keeping their areas clean, that I didn't have enough time for quality bonding time. I like the number we have at the moment.

I suggest people who haven't already done so, go along to a GSD National and watch the top dogs in this country in action. The Open Bitch class at the last National held in the NSW Hunter Valley had me in tears. They were absolutely OUTSTANDING!! The judge moved them continuously for a very very long time and guess what, not a single one broke down or even remotely looked crippled. The top 10 took my breath away and I'm not even a GSD owner!

I haven't read the whole thread, but I was so pleased to see these posts because I was quite shocked and was hoping I wasn't the only one. I thought some of the photographs were simply awful and in some the dogs looked almost deformed !! When I saw the Whippet, my immediate thought was that Kirislin's dogs would beat that one hands down. Same for some of the other breeds I've seen represented on DOL. Juice, I thought the while Bully looked "not so good", but really liked Yum Yum the coloured one - LOL. The photo of the GSD made me just feel sad. ETA: I watched a video of Best In Show a couple of days ago - LOL. That's a big call to make. He's a very promising 14 month old and nicely bred to boot, he's got a lot to offer the breed. I'd like to hear what you think he lacks according to the standard I LOVED the young Whippet and absolutely LOVED the BOS bitch as well. Either I'd happily have in my yard

Like I said, maybe a bit more info about themselves like why they want to breed instead of just posting the above would have stopped other posters questioning them :) I think it's great they have come here to learn :) I'd love to do a lot of things as well, it doesn't mean I'm going to. They never said they were definitely doing it. To me, it reads as they are curious about breeding and good on them for coming here to find out more.

Speaking of comprehension, maybe you should reread the o.p. The bit about how he/she would like to breed as a hobby seems pretty straight forward. But more especially how he/she would like to hear people thoughts on it is interesting. Now, if there was a rider only positive opinions allowed I would be out of line. Get over yourself!!! Nobody here is encouraging ANYBODY to breed! They're giving their experiences and nothing more. Nobody is saying, go on out there and breed all you want!!! For Christ sake, stop looking for a fight and start comprehending what people are writing.

As much as I would WANT to take all my dogs with me, the reality is there is another person who has loved them an financially contributed to their well being. I think it's shockingly unfair that the partner NOT be considered. I would probably leave one with my ex and take one with me. I just couldn't imagine how heartbreaking it would be to lose a relationship and the two dogs that were part of that. I'm so sorry you're going through this. If they want a dog to watch them through the window they should consider a toy one. . You mean a toy as in plastic . . . . Not a toy breed, I hope, Greyhound? Definitely not. Where do people get the idea that 30 minutes is enough for dogs? My Myrtie is a 3.5kg toy breed mix and she would happily walk for a couple of hours a day. If I decide to take her out on her own, I am just about trotting to keep up with her. I DIDN"T!!! Hence the question mark after Greyhound????? Or did you miss that

Greyhound? I would not recommend any of the working dogs. 30 minutes a day is not enough and working dogs NEED to be with their people.

I think it pays to remember that without the "show lines" many of the working breeds would have tiny gene pools and be unsuitable as pets. I appreciate that for some people that doesn't matter but it does to me. You can be passionate about your dog of choice without heaping shit on other people's. Couldn't agree more!!! Some people just HAVE to be nasty to others just to feel good about themselves. I've never understood the nastiness of "some".
