I am assuming the above statements are limited to/relate to breeders who exhibit. I certainly don't see them as true for those breeding for the performance & pet market I would include the majority of reputable, dedicated show and performance breeders in the category. I don't count the miriad producers of coloured puppies, all sold on limit register, at inflated prices, to make a quick buck. They contribute nothing to breed and are basically registered puppy producers not breeders. At the first BC National in 2006 at least 75% of the exhibitors in show, obedience, agility and herding had been in the breed for over 20 years. The club took a photo of all of us with 20+ years breed experience and the majority of the people present were in that photo. It was amazing to be at the National and see that wealth of knowledge about my beloved breed there. I love that photo :p

Yes I'll be there singing showdog, but only if I win of course, if I lose I'll storm out of the ring, rubbish the winning dogs, accuse the winning handler of sleeping with the judge and then slink off home to wash the dye out of my dogs Brilliant!

I would INSIST that the bitches be swabbed for infection prior to coming to my dog.

Because the 10 of them would have to spend 30 days in Quarrantine when I got home!

Which Is The Most "dog Friendly" State.
benshiva replied to Keira&Phoenix's topic in General Dog Discussion
Really? I didn't realise NSW was bad. There are a few dog beaches, and the one in Wollongong (an hour away from Sydney) has a dog friendly beach where you can swim with them. A lot of places in Sydney were you can take your dogs to cafe for lunches or coffee (i do this often with my 2). I wouldn't take them to the City itself, but a lot of Inner West suburbs are very pet friendly There are a few great off leash (no fence) dog parks around too. Newcastle and the Central Coast also have dog friendly beaches. I think NSW is fairly dog friendly. -
and what a stunning young Border Collie he is :D

A well bred dog should be able to do both. Some of the top "show" kennels have dogs in performance homes doing extremely well. There are also some top kennels that compete in both conformation and performance arenas.

When Buying From A Registered Breeder Poll 2
benshiva replied to SwaY's topic in General Dog Discussion
No to all three as well -
You're absolutely right. This is one reputable breeder who doesn't see it as a viable solution ;) So what is? Sadly I don't have the answer. I guess what I would like to see is the ANKC undertake a nationwide add campaign. Maybe that would get people to use them as an initial starting point when looking for a puppy. I'd like them to provide "So you're looking for a puppy" packs for anyone who enquires. In these packs I'd like a list of questions that potential puppy buyers could use when speaking to breeders about puppies. Questions like, registration, health testing, etc etc. Of course there would have to be explanations as to why they puppy buyer needs to know all this. I also thought the DogsNSW day they did last year for the general public was a very good idea. There was a fantastic amount of general public come through and if well advertised this could become an important tool as well. Not brilliant ideas but ideas just the same :D

Unless you are sharing your life with the dog in question you are in no position to judge or accuse anyone of thinking only of themselves. How could you know when you're not involved in any way? I'm sure the sharp sting in that comment hurt a few of us. Some comments are best left unspoken. When you have very close and loving bond with your dog you do know when the time is right. They make it clear, there is no doubt. If you are lucky enough to form that special bond with a dog, communication exists. If you've never experienced that special soul mate relationship with a dog I guess you wouldn't know. Puppy Sniffer. You will know if the time is right. Don't doubt your dog, she'll tell you. You will see it in her eyes, she will ask for your help. Don't worry about anything else. Just do what you know is right for your dog. EFS. OH my Goodness you are so right Our darling Shiva let us know March last year that she wanted to go. I can't explain how but we knew. Puppy Sniffer you WILL know. It sounds like you have a very special bond with your girl. Sending very gentle hugs to you xx

How sad It certainly is not that way for me and I would NEVER make anyone feel uncomfortable. Come and find me around the Working Dog ring and I'll say hi Not that I venture to Sydney a great deal anymore, but I never find people around the Working Dog ring mean when I do go there. :D .

Yes that is true but it is also true the wet snow will stick to almost anything, anything hanging will get little balls of snow, which become big balls of snow. I know as I used to have to deal with it. Also can clump up on their feet if the hair is not trimed. Personally I like the rough coat and it suited where I lived before just fine. Here it is a bit of a pain. Right now if I take my dogs out to gather the paddock I have to do a very through comb out right after words or we are at the vet a few days later to get a grass seed taken out of some part of their body. To get out all the grass seeds will take me about 1 hour for about 10 min of paddock time. So I can see why a farmer would not want to be doing this. For me it is not that big of deal, my dogs are pets first and are not in the paddocks much this time year anyway due to snakes. The coat on your grand champion was beautiful! In fact he was beautiful all around. Can I ask a silly questions and likely very far off base, but is he related to Naroff (hope I spelled that right) dogs? I have looked at their site a few times and met a few of their dogs and he just reminds me of them in the front end, head neck shoulder area. Very nice. I think the shorter coats suit our climate as well. Webster is related to Nahrof dogs. My whole kennel is based on Nahrof dogs (or are Nahrof dogs ). Very well picked up

I really love a nice short coated BC. On one of my many travels overseas to look at my beloved breed I came across the most stunning short coat Border Collie girl working sheep. She was amazing and I would have loved to have her in my yard. A correct long coated Border Collie should not retain water in their coats as it is supposed to be water resistant. The top coat should appear quite harsh to the touch making it very hard for water/snow to stick to protecting the dog from the elements. There is a purpose to the longer coats as well.
