Awww he is very cute ! Congratulations ! All the best with Hank :) Sad it didn't work out with the other puppy tho, Hope it recovers ok . Thank you, I saw Crowley today, he is just starting to show signs of improvement now that the vet has him on steroids. I feel sooo sorry for him, think it will take a while for my family to get over Crowley being sick. Good news is that Hank has settled in extremely quickly,

Thank you

Here ie a pic of Hank our DDB he is Crowleys brother, we did not get Crowley because he has puppy strangles. Hank was my second choice from the litter.

. This is Hank our Douge De Bourdeaux , he is 8 weeks old today. He went straight to his drinking fountain when we put him down on the floor, and has eaten his 1st meal without hesitation, he is currently sleeping after his meal.

Thanks for the advice, I have just returned home with one of the other male puppies and then read your post. Good news is all other puppies have no signs of health problems and its been a week since they had their vaccinations, so fingers crossed all will be good. I will post a pic of the puppy I purchased

Just a update, thee breeder has been great, she took the puppy to a second vet the other day for a second opinion, but unfortunately both vets mis diagnosed the condition and the puppy had to be rushed back to the vets today, result is that he has puppy strangles and I'm not prepared to buy him now as the condition was not treated quick enough IMO to help prevent future health issues. But the good news is the breeder does not want to sell the puppy for the same reasons, so I'm going to the breeder tomorrow to inspect the other male puppies again and possibly pick one to take home. I have to say the breeder has been absolutely fantastic throughout the whole process.

Great Dane Puppy Food Choice!
Hank DDB replied to laurenic33's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Have u consider feeding a raw diet -
No Abnormalities Detected I would suggest between now & pup-pick-up date that you read and read all sorts of dog stuff :) Vet terminolgy/anatomy/basic behaviour all sorts, so that when someone talks to you - you can answer them confidently , and so you can better understand how your dog works! :) Thanks for the info, FYI I admit I don't no everything but I have trained dogs in the past that followed hand signal commands and have donated a dog to the hearing impaired that I trained, so I can train a dog etc but I'm not up on all the vet lingo

Do u know what NAD means? Oh I just found out it is No Abnormal Defects
-
Swollen glands either LN or Saliva that's on vet invoice also then says otherwise NAD

Hi all, I'm buying a puppy and due to pick him up soon, the breeder ran me and has sent pics and copy of vet invoice, vet has given puppy a shot of anti inflammatory and a five day course of antibiotics, but apparently is not sure what is wrong, no other health concerns just maybe lymph nods swollen. I'm waiting till breeder returns to vet on Monday to get new update. Breeder recently put puppy on solid food. What do u guys think I should do?

Yep very excited, I decided to get a douge about 3 to 4 months ago, was searching for breeders with good puppies for weeks and finally found a local breeder, he was born on Australia Day and I went and saw him when he was 1 day old and sighted his parents, I paid a deposit and returned when he was 5 weeks old to have 1st pick of the litter, all of the puppies are super cute, but Crowley was the only male that ticked all the boxes for show quaility.
-
Yes he is a douge
-
Ok here is a bigger pic and another of Crowley at 5 weeks
-
Crowley at 7 weeks, I pick him up in 6 days, can't wait to bring him home.
-
Crowley at 3 weeks of age, he was born on Australia Day 2013. Four weeks till we bring him home, so excited. I have read various posts here and have purchased a bucket load of doggy gear ready for his arrival. Sorry all cant insert photo,s this forum is not user friendly to upload pics.

Thanks for that info, and that being the case I understand the reason why it maybe easier to digest for some dogs.

I feed my dogs raw and use optimum as treats and for training, because I'm not going to carry chicken wings around Did u all get that I feed my dogs raw food and where do u get that I think because dr brown endorsed optimum that I think it is better, u need to read my posts in full. My intention was to simply make people aware that the high prices being paid for super premium dry food is not worth the money you are parting with, it's not rocket science just compare the ingredients and price

Showdog lives in WA. I think when she said that "dogs have the final say" she was talking about what they do best on. Also doesn't matter how good the food is on paper if your dog won't eat it. If you don't actually feed it to your dogs as a part of their every day diet, why do you rate Optimum so highly? You don't rate Royal Canin. That's fine but have you actually ever fed it? I don't get the need to disparage a product you've never fed. Sorry there has been a misunderstanding, my point is that every super premium dry food I've looked at is over priced based on 2 things, 1 dry food A sells for $130.00 in Australia and sells for $60.00 in the USA and has a nutrition value of 9/10 . 2 dry food B sells for $60.00 in Australia and has a nutrition value of 8.9/10. The public are paying too much for these dry dog foods because they are not doing research . I totally understand that like me everyone wants to feed their dog the best, BUT sadly price $ is not a indication of quality, and the pet food industry is a gold mine to make money because we love our pets and want the best for them.

Just thought I would post a little info to kill fleas in a yard, fleas normally will be in bare patches not were grass is growing, so look for areas in your gardens that your dog has been lying in or under the house, etc. first your will need to wet these areas to encourage the fleas to come near to the surface and to enhance the performance of any treatment you carry out. There are various chemicals that can be used to treat these flea infested areas, the labels on the following products may not say that they can be used to treat fleas but I am a qualified pest management technician and have some knowledge of same. You can use David greys ant kill granular (ant kill product) or malowash but this is carsonegenic, or any flea treatment for dogs that you wash a dog with. The David greys ant treatment works extremely well because it tends to last longer due to it being a gradual and it is a synthetic pyrethiod which is a safer type of pesticide. Tick will tend to be in long grass, or natural rocks and clay bricks of houses etc, you need to treat ticks with a liquid treatment like malowash because ticks require this type of chemical to eradicate them quickly. Always remember to treat your dogs bedding as well. I always empty the vacum cleaner into the outside rubbish bin, and also spray some flea treatment into the rubbish bin and vacuum cleaner after vacuuming to remove fleas, as the fleas will just crawl back out of the vacuum cleaner and then you will be wondering why you just can't get rid of the flea infestation. Hope this helps some of you in the future. Regards Crowley

Showdog, I said optimum is the best value for money compared to super premium dry food, and I have to disagree with dogs have the final say, that is just silly, my children would eat junk food all day every day if I didn't give then guidance as a responsible parent. Dogs need guidance too. P.s I see you are overseas, I'm talking about optimum that is endorsed by dr chris brown. And made in Australia

V.i.p. Natures Goodness Grainfree Dryfood
Hank DDB replied to Frenchfry's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
In VIP food , the meat meal is very likely to be, roo, horse, pig , chicken, these are the most common meat supplied by the place VIP get their meat from. I previously worked for the local council in which VIP sources their meat. So I would not be concerned about the meat meal it should be of a good quaility. -

I am yet to find a super premium dry food that is worth purchasing, I have analysed the label of royal canin, and various other dry foods in the $70 to $140 per large bag and not one of them is worth the money, the best value for money I have found in Optimum it's nutritional value is extremely close to the expensive dry food, this is my personal choice for dry food and I only use it as training food and treats. I feed my dogs home made raw food with additional supplements added to ensure they stay healthy. P.s olive oil is a great source of omega 3 and 6
