  1. Hello, Does anyone know of a good brand of floor cleaner, particularly bamboo floors, that will work to clean up puppy wee so she'll leave those spots alone? Preferably available at Coles or Woolies, or somewhere just as easy?
  2. If you have mice, the snakes will come so put some traps about or get a good mousing cat. I also make as much sound as possible and stomp heavily when Im walking through snake terrain, they scare pretty easily.

Thanks, Ill have a look. I know she can crawl as she insists that she can still fit under our bed!
  5. We have an english mastiff puppy and timber floors. We went to a few carpet places and bought some large remnants and talked them down in price for the actual carpets. We paid $7 a metre to get edges bound, but thats not totally necessary. Even marine carpet from bunnings would be an option but its pretty expensive I think. The best part about the mats is that the house has that beautiful new carpet smell! We had stairs in our old house and had the same problem with our old boy, he just had to learn that upstairs was a no go zone which was ok as it was bedrooms only up there.

Hello everyone, I have a lovely 14 week old English Mastiff and am trying to think about some things I can teach her. She's finished preschool, and only seems interested in doing things where she gets to sit down. She can wave and almost has 'speak' down. The only thing she really hates doing is to lay, I guess its a long way down for her to go. Does anyone have any fun suggestions? Nothing requiring any agility though!

Just saw those other pics, eww, there is a lot of poo by that door.
  8. Woah I hope that collar is for when she's mature! Glad you finally got your girl, you must share some photos with us :) Mastiffs are awesome dogs! What did you end up naming her? We named her Molly and she is the cutest softest puppy ever to have existed (I may be biased), but she's definately not a natural at puppy school, she had a quick play then found a nice corner to nap in while the others were eager to please! I guess its the Mastiff way! The collar is definately for when she's mature, its stunning! I'll definately share some photos when I work out how to on a Galaxy Tablet or steal my husbands laptop off him!

Did anyone see what the court outcome earlier in the week regarding the woman in perth with the 70something animals? I saw the news article but was too busy to read it and cant find it now.
  11. We just got our baby English Mastiff last week, I bought her some nice warm beds for her to choose from; however, she has decided an old fabric ikea under bed storage box was better than all of them so we have shoved an old manky pillow in there instead and she loves it! My husband though, hasordered her a $300 custom made collar!! I thought Id be the worst one for spoiling her rotten, but she has him wrapped around her little paw.
  12. Thanks Cassie, I bet your puppy is a giant bundle of fluffyness!
  13. Thanks for the advice, I'll talk to her breeder about it; at a decent hour though, I'm getting a bit excited about her coming to her new home and want to know everything right now! The Royal Canin does smell good!
  14. Hello, Does anyone have an educated opinion on Royal Canin Giant puppy, or less specifically, their food in general? We're getting our english Mastiff puppy late this week and husband bought a massive bag of it. Hoping she likes it, of course we'll slowly transition her on to it, just we dont even know if dogs like it. Our senior boy tried it and liked it well enough, but he eats cat poo and swamp water if given the opportunity, so he's hardly a reliable food critic.
  15. Did you mean "catch" whooping cough, not "carry" it? Do you have any references for "carrying" and spreading the infection from a vaccine? I thought the vaccine would prevent infections in other people. It's the best method to prevent the spread of whooping cough. Most vaccines contain a version of the virus that is not infectious but designed to provoke a body's immune system into making antibodies (which is why we can sometimes feel a bit ill after a vaccination). It would be true to say that anyone who gets the vaccine - would not be immune until two weeks after the vaccination - so they could still catch ordinary whooping cough from "the wild virus" and spread that. Same as you keep puppy at home and away from unvaccinated dogs for two weeks after the last booster shot. http://www.abc.net.au/health/talkinghealth/factbuster/stories/2011/02/16/3140458.htm#.UbMQ3L4iPX4 I probably didnt phrase that well. I meant as in a child who had been vaccinated (against pertussis)can carry it after coming into contact (without developing whooping cough) with an infected kid, not from the vaccination. For example, my older dog is all up to date with his vaccines, but can he still spread the infection if he is exposed to it, even though he probably wouldnt exhibit symptoms.
  16. What an awesome property!! Jealous!
  17. Hi perth people! I saw it mentioned somewhere that there was a puppy playgroup somewhere NOR. We're about to get a new addition in 4 weeks and am struggling to think of safe socialising places before her 12 week vacs. Shes already enrolled in preschool, I was hoping to add in something more casual too. Does anyone know where it might have been? I'm in Ellenbrook so hopefully it would be close to here! Otherwise, any English Mastiff owners in town?
  18. Hey everyone! We're getting our beautiful English Mastiff puppy in 5 weeks. We've booked her into Puppy School at our vets, but was looking for some ideas on what to do next that is breed appropriate. My husband works away and the kids are at school so I have all the time in the world...(while she is awake). These 5 weeks waiting are soo hard!! :D
  19. Thanks for the great responses! Looks like I will be keeping my old boy entertained at home for a few weeks. I didnt realise Parvo was so easily spread about!
  20. Hello, I was just wondering if anyone know whether an older immunised dog can carry Parvo after exposure, much the way an immunised child can still carry whopping cough for 14 days after exposure without having symptoms. We have a older do who has daily romps around our local dog park and sniffs everything on walks. We are soon to add a puppy into the mix who will obviously waiting at hime until he's all needled up. Basically, I dont want my older immunised dog bringing home any nasties, should I keep him at home too prior and during the dangerous time for the little miss?
  21. Thanks for posting that! Ive been looking around for a cheaper option. Off to Bunnings tomorrow!
  22. Hi Seld It is probably as good as many of the "premium" brands. I found with Eukanuba - as with many others - that there was too much corn etc. It is best to look for meat or meat meal as the first two ingredients. The higher up the list the ingredient the more it contains. A good breeder should be able to advise you on what suits that particular breed. There are numerous threads here discussing dry food if you do a search :) Good luck with your new pup. Thanks Rosetta, Its been a while since we had a puppy and things have changed in the last ten years!
  23. Hey everyone, We're soon to be adding an English Mastiff to the family and were planning on changing her to Eukanuba large breed puppy; however, no one has mentioned it as a good option here and now I have my doubts! Is it not good? Ive never heard of the BlackHawk one!
  24. He still fits in your arms? How heavy is he? Yes here's proof! :p Sumo with my OH. He's about 12kg at 9.5 weeks. Look at the size of those paws! He's just beautiful!
  25. This will be the first time I've done crate training, does anyone have any tips? I've always toilet trained my past dogs similar to my son, just took them to the toilet at regular intervals and praised them when they went till it clicked in their heads. Is crate training really any better? Does anyone have any pros and cons about it?
