She does Dogmad, but she gets a bit obsessed when she sniffs something good. She better than Roo that's for sure! I suppose it's more just nerves on my part - if they WERE to take off, I'd have no chance of controlling them and I know it. Not an insurmountable problem I know. They'll train me to be better at it eventually ;)

Rebanne, how do they eat then? Do you need to feed a liquid diet?
-
Good to know Hankdog. What makes you think a companion is the answer for your dog? It's so hard to get an indication of whether it will help or not without trying it.
-
Yes, there is some of that. Right up the back, hard to see, on the second to last tooth on each side at the top. Mucky looking.
-
hmm well there's a scaly sort of brown stuff on them that is not on Roo's, the shape seems consistent with Roo's though. Had to stop looking after that due to nearly passing out.
-
Will do! what am I looking for? not very experienced with teeth given Roo has knocked half of hers out!
-
She HAS had a dental! I made a comment about her teeth, as when I got the dogs home I spent ages accusing poor Roo of having rolled in something on their walk before realising it was stinky Mia! And was assured she has had them checked. Seriously it smells like she has a permanent dead animal in her mouth. Lucky she's cute :)

Hello, just dropped in to say no more growling, snapping, or otherwise anti-social behaviour from miss Roo :) No more lip licking, yawning, or other signs of anxiety either, which she was showing a bit last night. She does look up whenever I say Mia's name or give her a pat, but overall much more settled. We went for a very long walk today, 2 hours, and when I got back, both dogs were behaving nicely together, eating their marrow bones out the back (Mia's breath REEKS!), and when we came in, I invited them in turn up to the sofa, where they have snoozed at opposite ends every since.
-
Not at all, discussions were focussed around temperament and understanding Roo's issues and Mia was offerred due to temperament fit. And it's true, she is exceptionally calm. Please don't worry, I won't allow Mia to be hurt. I understand they are easily hurt. I haven't seen Nekh for ages, since before I went away, I'm still practising the things she showed me. Maybe time for another trip down the highway!

You are right, Mia is exceptionally laid back. She is a very beautiful animal. Thank you for your advice, I'll be watching the dogs closely.

I don't think I'm experienced enough to be trying this. I just wanted to find something that would help so much.
-
Thanks Rebanne, no, I won't be leaving them alone together. No way. Yes, I did tell Roo to get back off the sofa and into her bed, and Mia had already gone to hers of her own accord. I haven't let either dog up here since. Could the reason for the previous dog stay working okay be because both dogs were younger (both 2.5)? Or just a matter of personality? Would also be interested if people think Mia should go home if there's any further snapping, or if it would be silly to give up after only a night. I don't want Mia to have a hard time here.

Thanks guys :)

Haha bin opening is super cheeky! But also very cute.

Thanks everyone! Mia will be with a trainer when we meet tonight and we have planned a long walk for both dogs. Thanks for the tip to take them straight out the back :) apparently Mia is a real food hound, and has stolen a whole tub of margarine from her fosters bench before and eaten the lot! That will be a new experience for us as Roo isn't overly food motivated.

Well everyone Roo and I will be welcoming a beautiful greyhound into our home for a stay of at least the weekend and possibly up to a week! Wish us luck and harmony together and I will post some pics!

No, that's why they rejected me! Because I like jogging ( would be happy not to though, and just walk) and also because I have one fence of 1.6 metres (it's my house, so I could increase the height and would be happy to) and because 2-3 days per week out of the home is too much for a golden retriever (I guess they hope to rehome to families where someone is always there?). Also because of Roo's issues, which I totally understand. On the other hand - the GAP approved me! Wooo! Now I just need to have a proper discussion with them about Roo, and whether it's realistic
-
I don't really think that, I was just being understated. The world has enough drama llamas, him being one of them! And I agree, but we were in Italy and I wasn't sure how. I did report him to hotel security, who asked him to leave.

Good to know - thanks. Hahaha! Excellent image!! Cheers very much T. I can see why Roo and I would be unattractive to a rescue with a high demand for their dogs. Not home every day, plus Roo's issues. But I'd still like to talk about it. One reason given for example was that I said Roo & I like to go jogging and this is bad for Golden's. Well, I'd be happy NOT to go jogging and walk instead- more than happy to adjust my life for a new dog. A chat would be great I think so I could explain things like that. Thank you, that is very encouraging :)

Thanks everyone :) Perse, the daycare would also take the foster, I thought. I wouldn't leave the foster alone at home. I thought they'd both go, the trainers at daycare are experienced with foster dogs as they foster themselves. Then, if things were settling down and over time it did transpire that the dogs were happy at home together I could drop from two to one days daycare. Roo x 2 days = same as 2 dogs x 1 day in terms of cost. I am working at home one day most weeks now and I can work at home for a full week if I bought a new dog into the home. I don't know - maybe it's all too complicated and I'm too inexperienced and I'm clutching at straws? Sigh. It was a suggestion earlier in the thread, I did contact Golden Retriever Rescue, filled out their questionairre and emailed it, but was rejected immediately. I guess they are popular dogs.
