  1. The council reduction in registration for a "trained dog" in SA is a joke. My young BC can't get the reduction because she never went through the levels at club despite the fact she has ANKC titles and passes towards titles which would be of a greater level then the standard required by council. I tried last year and wasn't successful might try and speak with somebody higher up in council this year. Its only $5 extra but its more the principle that pisses me off.
  2. Way to go guys on the passes fantastic stuff. Well my claim to fame is I have now touch wood found one sit stay - WAHOO. Lets hope it continues.
  3. Any of the Greg Derrett or Susan Garrett stuff is good for beginners. Moe Strenfel's Agility Foundations DVD isn't bad either. Mary Ellen Barry's Foundation Fundamentals has a lot of good stuff as well.
  4. think we need a photo of the new improved uncoffee table verison of Dekka Ptolomy. I liked Chevy he really is a pretty boy. Even if he did have no manners.
  5. Chevy is a real character - dear sweet Chevy . And before anybody thinks I am being mean I do mean it in a nice way.
  6. Mason2009 - Chevy is Bean's litter brother owned by Ptolomy's mother.
  7. Here you go - a clip of Kenz as a 13 week old "working and playing" effectively off-lead (she had a lead on but I wasn't holding it - not about to be foolish) at an obedience trial. She had already been taken out and about and been allowed to play with other dogs. She had been to a DOL meet and out to agility trials and had play dates with other pups and older dogs. She arrived at just over 8 weeks and from somewhere where she had had 12 other pups to play with (breeder had 2 litters a week apart who were mixed for play sessions when they were old enough). So you would think from that kind of situation she would be pretty dog focused. ETA. I will also point out my older girl was sitting on-lead only 3 m away from where the video was filmed as was a friends dog who she had had play dates with since the first weekend she arrived.
  8. I guess to I should also clarify I was in the fortunate position of being able to be home with Kenz as a youngster so they were very rarely left alone - least not for long hours. Suppose one perk of being a student . And AD I guess it came down to the fact I knew she was getting very little reinforcement from Ness when it came to play interactions while I was home so it was a pretty safe bet that she wasn't getting any reinforcement from her when I wasn't .
  9. Think this depends a little on the breed and personality of the dogs. Kenz has always run with Ness from day 1 and she couldn't really give a toss and certainly isn't a must play at all costs type of dog. In fact she is the one that wants to interact with me rather than go off and do anything else and always has been like that. But then Ness isn't really the type of dog who really ran or played with Kenz. They more coexisted. So I don't mind them running with my adult dogs but if they started to become more dog focused and didn't give a toss about me then I'd do things differently.
  10. God if they were observant enough to see that the your daughter had just gone to bed then surprised they weren't observant enough to know that you had 8 dogs guarding the property . I mean Southern River is full of properties with dogs not sure I'd chance any of them if I were an intruder - but guess they aren't known for there level of intelligence. Maybe you need a Tollers in residence I can make it to the fence in 2.9 seconds - can you sign .
  11. Yikes Ptolomy - what stupid intruders to try and mess with a pack of red dogs. Hope they got away empty handed.
  12. Not a holiday house as such but we spent the night at my parents place in the country on the river. No fenced yard and on 8 acres and plenty of critters. Both of mine were allowed outside unattended but they normally just ran around the verandah and then back to me. If they needed to toilet in the night I would go and stand on the verandah and then call them back to me when they are finished. Guess it depends on the dog but like others said they would rather me at my feet then off exploring unless I am outside. The same goes for home though really. They have access to the yard but at the moment I am on the computer and one dog is sleeping next to my desk and the other dog is sleeping in the room next door.
  13. Nope sorry RS - will keep the bigger one for Ness.
  14. Think everybody has the mesh version LP . And I will tell you it made a significantly noticeable difference to Kenz with her injury. To the extent where if she had a daytime sleep without it she would be sore and stiff but if I put it on her she would wake up 100% fine.
  15. Hmmmm that was a few weeks ago now. Unless I messed up the conversion. It was like $140 NZ including shipping and I paid $92 Australian for my first one including shipping. Was yours recent I wonder if the price has gone up since I ordered my other one. Maybe you can answer LOL. I was looking at ordering a smaller one for Kenz because I think the next size down from the one I had is probably a little better for her.
  16. Sounds like an awesome session Ptolomy - well done Strauss, Cider and Moo . Think its time I up the distraction training a little for Kenz.
  17. Way to go Ptolomy - congratulations on the fantastic hip and elbow scores .
  18. You don't need many tricks for freestyle. You need more then just left side obedience heelwork for a HTM routine though. Music editing is the easy bit - what sort of music are you after if you want something edited flick me the mp3 and I'll see what I can do. I will also say my CDX titled dog failed her starters HTM routine but passed freestyle and Ness heels quite well and enthusiastically. So there is definitely more to a HTM routine then you might otherwise think.
  19. Mirawee - freestyle is a hell of a lot easier then HTM - you can do heelwork in freestyle as well. HTM they start docking you the moment the dog loses exact heel position. My advice if you want to do either start with freestyle ;). And starters routines only need to be just over a minute. Apparently I was advised that 1 min 30 is to long for a starters routine - mine were 1 min 30 - 1 min 40 with edited music.
  20. The only problem with the New Zealand distributor is the fact they are charging about $30 more then the Australian distributor - at least on current pricing. I had no issues with the Australian distributor and they responded to all my emails promptly.
  21. So does that mean we are all having an equally boring afternoon - sorry LP have totally hijacked your thread .
  22. Thats ok RS I already told her how deeply offended I was by her posting (tongue in cheek ;)).
  23. Well I tried the sit box idea and so much for Kenz deciding to offer the elephant trick NOW all she offers is a sit on whatever I put out . Well no she starts off with the elephant/phone book trick but now at the end product is her sitting on the phone book. Hmmm guess whats flavor of the month.
