Why Do People Feel That A Tug Game
ness replied to dasha's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My two are like chalk and cheese - my older one would turn herself inside out for a piece of food even when she has eaten all day so has only ever been trained using food as a reward. I have never used a toy as a reward in her training and she has got as far as trialling in UD and has all her agility titles. My youngster in comparison has never been interested in food so has been trained using a tug. I know other dogs who have been trained exclusively using food and they certainly aren't lacking in drive. -
So sorry to read Benshiva. Hugs. Run free dear Webster.

Bugger it Ptolomy - if I land a job in WA I'll come and pinch Soggy and Strauss for agility .

Piper well BCs are to smart for their own good. Ness might like it as well but hmmmm I am precious when it comes to injuries atm. -
Lure Coursing In Adelaide - For Non-greyhounds
ness replied to jacqui835's topic in General Dog Discussion
My young BC would love it but her shoulder still isn't 100% and we have a busy couple of weeks of obedience trialling so won't risk it but hopefully there will be another time - sounds fun. -
Yep way to handle it you "break" your up and coming agility dog so can only do obedience with her . Nah you manage keeps you busy but I certainly didn't flog training Ness really outside of training - 1 obedience class a week and 1 agility class a week and she is trained up to UD has CDX and all the agility titles. I didn't even do any real foundation agility work with her. Most of my time each week outside of class was spent teaching obedience exercises. You can compete and get a dog around the course without having a frustrated dog on one agility class a week .

RS - your brave I only thought about asking ;).
-
yeah nobody wants to see mine. I would have thought some of the Qld people are probably on DOL.
-
RS - have a look on here - http://www.danceswithdogsaustralia.com/ - each state seems to have videos listed - enough to keep you amused for a little while at any rate .
-
well done CleoJ yeah Kenz got docked 2 for barking in her starters routine as well .
-
the same one we did at the Royal - give or take a bit - I can never do the same routine twice ;)
-
nawww I am really hoping there is video of your routine kallistar - like I said they only want one or the other to give other people an opportunity. Ended up telling them I'd do a novice level freestyle - they might as well learn how to deal with an enthusiastic dog who likes to throw in the occasional bit of barking . I just won't amp the routine up to quite the level we did at the royal - well thats if Kenz lets me keep it a little less amped.
-
I possibly wouldn't even add in the "sit" command before. Just tie her up and tell her back soon. Thats what I always do with mine if I am going to leave them and that way if they do move around or change position thats fine.
-
Nik I would be careful giving her the opportunity to lay down while your out of sight - even informally. I was told to never put the dog in a stay unless your willing to enforce it. I.e. dog lays down you fix it. Unless of course by informal you mean tied up and just told that you will be back soon without a command attached. I have done that with stays to get the dog use to me leaving and returning without insisting on any position.
-
they only want one - Kenz is just as good at HTM - she has the precision to go with it, but she is a little more over the top with freestyle and barks her way through a lot of it ;).
-
So the question is do I subject the trainee judges to my somewhat entertaining DWD routine or do I offer a HTM routine . I can get both ready the question is which LOL.

My 2011 training wishlist is simple - one sound dog that I can get back to playing games with and not having to keep wrapped up in cotton wool .

Semaphore Beach Walk - Sat 24th Sept - 8.30

KHM does your daughters recall improve with the reinforcement of multiple dogs to cuddle . -
DogsSA are happy for you to submit photocopies - not sure why DogsVic would be any different but they are each to their own. Dogs SA actually prefer you submit photocopies because then they don't have to worry about if things happen to them in the post.

Congratulations Murve and Orlando .

No only a certain red dog in CCD but I do know the WA standard is extremely high and from what I have heard from Ptolomy's comments - the standard in WA always was high though even when I last visited many years ago now so I don't doubt things have changed in any way. Lots great dogs - maybe it should have read "a bench mark". I didn't mean to suggest there weren't others but rather they are the ones I know and have watched and admired. Will go back in my box now .
-
spending to much time on FB bedazzledx2 . Definitely need a "like" button though.
-
Way to go Brookie and Soggy (and bedazzledx2 and Ptolomy). The standard of obedience is so very high over in WA and you two are certainly the bench mark . Always pushing each other to achieve bigger and better things. Well done guys .
-
Bless him Sandi and nice work with Soggy to . Great work bedazzledx2 and Brooklyn as well. Sounds like both dogs are oh so close that final elusive UDX pass.

JoeK - Steve is very quick to recognise the limitations of email to the extent where he wouldn't let me start the TID package with my youngster until he had come over and had a chance to assess her in person. He didn't want to provide me with something that "may" work until he had got an accurate assessment of the dog. I am sure if he feels a potential clients problem would be better dealt with by them seeing somebody else then he will refer them on. I have seen him post in various threads here recommending people see xyz trainer so don't think if somebody contacted him privately he would be any different.
