Couple of house bricks and some planks of timber are all you need to make a BJ or lengths of guttering. Get creative buddy1 .

Have you tried using a target out the front of the boards and yep a low jump then leave the jump uprights but remove the bar. I did an experimental session last year having an orange traffic cone out the front and sending the dog around it but Kenz has never thought to walk over the boards so thats probably not going to help you. ETA. As far as Rally is concerned I gather from the rules that the dog is just taking the jump as you move forward anyway so no problem with handler movement.

Ah ok - yep I got some of the newer ones - same time as bedazzled I think . Not that I really need to worry about it yet or maybe even ever . Nothing like preparing for the future or NOT.

So the UDX leathers that Janet sells aren't allowed?? I bought a set from her but will I need to find something else?

Corvus - Kenz has been carrying injury as you might know from the other threads so her training time has been a little limited - her work as a consequence is a little scatty as she has been spending a lot of time on restricted/limited exercise. I didn't think she would be up to the standard for the level but knew she could work for that length of time so hence I offered a routine. As I think I also mentioned given my normal routine was only 2 min and for intermediate 2 min 30 seconds was more the desired length I re-edited the music only a couple of days before and it obviously contained a fair amount of improvisation rather than it being rehearsed to any great length. I will also say if I haven't already the flooring/carpet was mega slippery and knowing she is still carrying ligament damage the last thing I needed was for her to mistime anything and things like jumping over the rooftop and sending her around the cone were moves she is normally very fluent in but I also held back a lot to avoid issues with footing. She loves to run around objects at a million miles an hour and I could see that might lead to issues so I was trying to keep it toned down a bit. She wasn't keen on the standard poodle belonging to the judge that was in a pen near that far end of the ring but considering there was a table of 13 people sitting less than a meter from the front of the "ring" and given her issues with people and shutting down I thought she coped well. Kenz is a dog who's default reaction to stress has always been shut down and switch off - you might remember how she reacted to you and your OH when we met up at the park that day.

it wasn't as polished as the royal and I had to baby her through it as I was seriously worried about her slipping on the carpet - watch out Advanced just imagine what we could do if I trained her .

Yep we tend to stick more to ovals with short grass rather than our normal winter walks which are up a bush track.

We have video -

Well we have video - now to see if I can upload it to youtube . I just watched it back and it wasn't really very good at all - HMMMMMMM.

Hmmm ok just went out and did 4 cones sendaways for her breakie - No barking - phewww but she also nailed it on all 4 times (did 2 then put her away and got Ness out and then did another 2). So I think we are pretty safe to just not reward any attempt that does involve barking as she does know what I want. I also broke out the video camera but note to self don't line up video camera directly behind because then all you end up with is lovely video of my backside .

Sitting on mat update - took the old girl outside and was having a session with her and didn't realize Kenz was inside watching through the window. Opened the backdoor and let Kenz out and she raced out to the mat and sat - JACKPOT - problem sorted. But we have another problem - it appears that my barking issue that I thought was otherwise limited to DWD might be rearing its ugly head as far as sendaways go. The second time I attempted one a little later in the evening it was accompanied by a "woof" as she took off. URGH .

Ptolomy she will probably be ready for Open inside 10 days knowing your training ability .
-
Sounds very promising Inevitablue .

Thanks bedazzledx2 and everybody else for your suggestions - will give it another go next week sometime. She will get there once we get rid of the rest of the "rubbish" she has trained into her.

Latent Learning, Retention And Insights

Yeah its amazing what they can put together after a break - I did that a little with Kenz when I was teaching her to weave. She had a few days of 2x2 weaving then an extended break of about a month before coming back and finishing the process. We also experienced something similar recently when I decided to do a full Open obedience round with her when she has probably not touched the exercises in nearly 8 or so months. Especially not a retrieve over the jump or even a retrieve on the flat. She came out and never missed a beat . -
Yep MRB I am trying to get her out of the offering 2o2o which is not helpful.
-
No video hahaha - me video a session that could be novel. Will try another one when it cools a little and set up the video camera. All the contact I am getting is totally incidental and the last session all I got was her using it as a pivot point (you know like the phone book trick only on a flat surface) . Although that beats the laying down she was throwing at me or trying to bring it to me. Hmmm so plan B which was to go back to something I have taught her to sit on previously resulted in her offering 2o2o on the object .
-
Shoulder injuries suck bigtime - regardless of species. Hmmm to keep this back on being training related - how hard can it be to teach a bloody BC to sit on a square of carpet . Its so not happening for us.
-
Hmmm ok give me an example of something you do like bedazzled and I'll hit youtube and go hunting .
-
At 11 months there is nothing wrong with the occasional fetch game but also keep the frisbee low and I did a lot of work on dead retrieves. So I'd have Kenz wait (in either a sit, drop or stand), throw the frisbee and then release her. In the end you can only wrap them up in cotton wool so much and they are just as likely to injure themselves at home racing around like lunatics.
-
Probably why I don't . Sorry not very helpful over music choices.
-
You could always throw the frisbee in to the water instead of another toy. No potential for awkward landings that way.
-
Yeah I do agree bedazzledx2 about the excessive barking - we are training it out but I am not going to sacrifice drive in the process. Hmmm as far as music goes - a friend of mine and I both think some of the Disney type songs make for good HTM routines. Good beats and normally some reasonable pace transitions to .
-
hmmm who trains DJ - yours have done agility they know what a jump is .

thats what we did RS and Ness only failed by the smallest of margins . Considering I didn't think she was close at all she did well. Looking forward to Kenz's debut in UD next year too but unlike you guys we still have to get through Open.
