All about the context though huski and your focus - have a look at some of the Sylvia Trkman stuff .

I do like teaching pups plenty of tricks though - tricks help build focus on you in a fun context which is outside the pressure of performing a particular behavior in an exact manner. Sue Guru and possibly Ptolomy suggested to me to drive lots of difference places, have a 30-60 second game, load pup back in the car, drive somewhere else and repeat. Get the dog use to going somewhere new and thinking it was the cue for fun to begin.

Not just how to play a game with me but how to play a game with me at varying places and that all rewards come through me .

I have been in touch with the specialist already but I am just posting to see if anybody else has had experience with a dog taking a long time to recover from a sedation. My BC was sedated on Tuesday for a relatively short period of time (no more then a few minutes) to have an injection into her shoulder. This was a follow up to a procedure she had 3 weeks ago. The first time she was wide awake and bouncing around within 10 min of arriving home. I had to put her in her crate to keep her resting. With the follow up she was severely hung-over for a good 24 hours (sedation was 11am Tue and it wasn't until late afternoon yesterday that she perked up). She was picking over her food, wouldn't drink, wouldn't do anything other than sleep. I let her be and contacted the specialist who said they had given her slightly more sedative this time around and they only reversed half of what they could and they would note it on her file for next time in case they needed to knock her out again. She was much perkier last night so I wasn't to concerned and thought she was back to normal. This morning she appeared her normal self but as the morning has progressed she has had a really upset tummy which has necessitated 2 baths in the last hour or so and is now sleeping in her crate feeling pretty miserable. Should I be worried - is it likely to be related or is there something else going on.

How long is a piece of string - hmmm its rest for 4 days then we can start at 4 x 1.5km walks and add 10% to the total twice a week. If she goes backwards she gets a solid days rest and we go back to the level before. Will pass on your cuddle she has had a hard time recovering from the sedation but when she recovered OMG she is going to be hard to keep confined.

kallistar. Well Kenz is officially out of action for a bit . Specialist wants her on the rehab protocol he would otherwise use for dogs that have had joint surgery . It is what I somewhat anticipated but it was nice to live in hope for a little while even if it was brief.

way to go Strauss - the dog who was only going to be a "Stud" is a superstar in the making.

BC4Me I am considering it because she should be ok by then and is bored out of her little brain. If we are back training at home there is no reason why she shouldn't do it. We are taking things a day at a time and will do what the specialist thinks is best. She did the trainee judges exam while she was in a similar level of soreness and it had absolutely no untoward effects on her injury at that stage and it also didn't impact on her ability in anyway. If it was noticeable or she wasn't enjoying it then I would obviously not force her to do something. Its also not like I am asking her to go out and run an agility course. She is being leash walked a couple of kilometers a day at the moment and not coming up sore so she is doing something. Any way I feel the specialist is the most qualified person to answer the question and he knows the rigors of performance activities so I will therefore defer to his better judgement. We are also talking about an injury which at this stage if she was a pet dog (even an active pet dog) you would probably just leave her be and just opt to rest her if she came up sore after doing anything.

Wahoo well done TerraNik and the Pawformance crew - 3 from 3 thats pretty special and given it was Rev's first trial in anything - that deserves a huge congratulations .

Alright I have decided I will do the "polite" bit and email the person organising it and explain and then take the decision totally out of my hands by asking her ortho specialist on Tuesday. Seems fair enough at this stage. We are suppose to be taking the conservative route and he has said when I get to reintroducing activities we will talk specifics. I can send him through the video of her routine and see what he has to say. There are a few concerns about the surface they are going to use if its the same as the one they had a mock trial - well concerns if you have a dog recovering from a ligament injury as the carpet was a little slippery.

Figured we needed a thread for this year - so brag away .
-
we need a 2012 Brag thread but well done TerraNik and the Pawformance crew .

Yeah that is the problem they have 9 routines - 5 DWD, 4 HTM - 2 of which are suppose to be Kenz's . Its not made any easier by knowing the fact Kenz is dying to be allowed to do something - she is happiest when she is working and I know she would give 110% of herself regardless. Never mind the fact I am itching to be allowed to do something with her as well . We are both a little stir crazy .
-
I don't know what to do they sent the email with the info for the judges exam today she is the only dog down to do an Intermediate routine for both classes I will have about 25 min between them - DWD before HTM but the killer is she will be 12 days post her second injection (I gather she only needs to be rested a few days) and I can go back to leash walking her but it still seems a long way from "trialling her" and its all still up in the air. Her shoulder still has a long way to go - she can't manage a swim yet without being sore. I know she could do it fine I just don't know what the consequence will be. Is it a case of having to give up something now to ensure she is 100% long term. Grrrrrrr I feel bad they do sound like they are counting on her.

Maybe .
-
why DSO you could run .
-
Oh I have seen them LP - the order contained 2 and only 1 showed up .
-
Mine was shipped on the 19/12 to GG and I got it yesterday.
-
Well looks like I am expecting a third package since they left out one of the PacSac dog beds from my order .
-
yes I noticed that to Piper and wondered if they would go through as free shipping or not. They are certainly a huge hit with Kenz.
-
- Kenz picked up a jute gripper ball out of the box (which is meant for SecretKei) and she looked at it quizically, tried to make it squeak and then ditched it in favour of her plush doggle.
-
I know they sold out of some of the udder tugs - Piper had an order of some refunded .
-
snook udder tug seems to be popular here. Although the $2 plush doggle seems to be the most popular.
