Sounds all a little to familiar . The PRP injection still might be useful for the front end - look into it and see. It does help to reduce the inflammation. It doesn't actually require extensive crate rest. Kenz's specialist went the super conservative route but if your leash walking her anyway it might not hurt anything other than a small amount of money. Either that or a stem cell treatment. You can get "pre-packaged" cells which they just inject in. What grade are her patellas???? ETA. Stem cell link http://www.australianstemcells.com.au/

What has she actually done to her shoulder RosieFT? Kenz had two PRP injections for her front end and it seemed to help. I was told 6-8 weeks crate rest may also resolve it. The other alternative suggested was a steroid injection into the joint and then strict rest.

So I am a stress head - nah specialist thanked me for letting him know and has said if it gets worse or I get worried to stay in touch . I guess its easy for them to say your over reacting they know what to expect at various stages. All I can go on is what I observe and when its something that she has done zillion times in the last 4 weeks and it suddenly causes a lasting episode of lameness you start to question your sanity. On the positive tomorrow marks 1 month post surgery . Who would have thought I could have survived without to much going wrong for a month . And we finally have some hair starting to make an appearance. Problem with coated dogs it takes forever for the coat to grow back.

gsdog2 - a bit of perspective for you: 1. Your not playing for sheep stations; 2. Win or Lose you still take the best dog home again with you at the end of the trial; 3. Its about having fun and making the most of an activity you enjoy; AND 4. You ever know when for whatever reason the time you step in the ring might be your last so go and enjoy every second of it and cherish the moment. Its my new motto and really does help with the nerve factor. Pass or fail your dog will still wake up the next day and all it will remember is that it had a great day out with mum and got to play the game and anything else is a bonus.

Wuffles given Ava is having soreness issues with her hind end do you think they could be impacting on her ability to do stays? I know that has been my constant battle with Kenz and stays. Ptolomy will tell you similar about Scoota having issues with stays (particularly the sit stay) when he is sore. RS I still think 169 in UD and passing every exercise is a pretty darn good reason to do stays . Pity the judge couldn't have found me one more point .
-
the only one time I have done stays when I haven't been on a pass is a UD trial where I happened to miss out on a quallie by 1 frigging point. Passed all the exercises and thought given I rarely did stays in practice and we had never got through to stays because we always failed so much (and knowing all the other dogs were stable and mine was normally fairly reliable) I thought I better make sure we had UD stays under our belt in case she ever managed to pass and keep enough points. Ness did manage to complete stays and that was the closest we came to passing UD .

Well WA have precedent for qualifying and non-qualifying stays so it does already exist or has in the past. I am not sure depending on how much "noise" and if the other dog was unreliable with stays I'd be happy to leave my dog there whether it was at the far end of a group of dogs or not especially when there aren't many dogs entered. Even 2 or 3 dogs in between with dogs who have serious issues with each other I might not be happy about.
-
Hmm if the dog fails ring work and still goes to do stays but your on a pass can you ask the judge re a set of qualifying and non-qualifying stays?? Obviously explaining the issue between the dogs and be prepared to walk away from stays if you don't get a satisfactory resolution with the judge in question. I figure if you remain polite and civil about it and don't get the judge off-side depending on the judge it might be resolved.
-
I would do ring work and withdraw from stays (thats if the other dog is on a pass and still does stays). If the dog isn't on a pass and does stays and I was on a pass I would be ropeable and probably have a word or three to the judge . ETA. I guess the context of what the "dislike" was and what the reaction of the dogs to it might be. Is it mutual or is one the main instigator? ?

we won't talk about how much I spent there between her shoulder and her knee. I am sure plenty of people have spent more but we seem to have had rather a lot to do with the place in the last 6 or so months .

poor guy I think he is regretting being so nice about everything I get a guilt trip up with the emails but he says its all ok. I reckon thats specialist code for geez she is a worry .

Hmmm Mirawee this is her surgery leg though and not the one that usually bothered her . She is ok this morning not sure if its worth mentioning it to the specialist or not. We have had a few instances of her not putting weight on it after she has been crated and he doesn't think that is anything overly concerning at the moment combination of lack of activity and the cold but last nights was bizarre in that she hadn't been crated and she actually went to step on something and the leg appeared to buckle.
-
Awesome news MG - unfortunately mine isn't so good . Nearly 4 weeks down and not sure what Kenz has managed to do but she spent the better part of last night on three legs and very unsettled .

Way to go Ptolomy and Bedazzledx2 .

Kenz came AAE Perth to Adelaide (4 years ago) and only a puppy and I paid $200 or thereabouts. Whenever I have flown Adelaide/Perth with Virgin and been on the flight they have always been happy with 60 min lodgement before flights. I have normally rung to confirm but I know the first time we showed up 90 min early in Adelaide and they said we could take the dog away again for a bit. I have had flights delayed out of Adelaide and Perth and have had a dog pulled out of the main freight building due to the delay and they have always been really great especially when I have explained about it already being a long flight.

Pain Relief - (mission Impossible?)
ness replied to pebbles's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yep the ortho specialist we are dealing with seem to suggest Tramadol over Rimadyl/carprofen for occasional pain management over the longer term. -
The bits I saw from Jazz - looked good Piper .

Sorry RJ I ended up not hanging around for your boys turn. Was getting warm in the car for my little feral and a need for food was calling. Glad he did well though and good luck with the training .

She could still do all of it I think . Whether she wants to is an entirely different story . She is very much a whats in it for me . Yeah I still have the music - its sitting in my itunes library. Actually toying with trying the routine with Kenz when she gets to novice or intermediate . -
BC Crazy - I might be interested I was just looking at buying one.

Dancing With Dogs Freestyle & Heelwork To Music
ness replied to kallistar's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Anybody got any thoughts - first trial scheduled here is end of July and I am toying with bringing the old girl (she is 12 in September) out of retirement to try and get the second half of her DWDF.S title. She got a pass when I took them to Sydney a couple of years ago and missed out on her title in the afternoon by one crummy little point. She is still managing the occasional obedience round and actually seems to be a lot more feral and switched on then she was when she was younger. So do I dust off her old Surfin USA routine or try and come up with something new. Will certainly be going for minimum length time on the routine this time though. Still hoping I may be able to have Kenz ready to do at least a HTM routine but will see what the specialist says it might not be far enough through her rehab. -
Ptolomy do tell me WHAT reason I keep telling myself the same. Hugs to everybody who has dogs with any sort of issue its a battle and a half. Ptolomy is the pup heading to Adelaide going to be doing any dog sports?? I would love to meet it .

Luxating Patella Issue (updated 7 Weeks Post Surgery)
ness replied to ness's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Kenz's patella she has had surgery on is her left one. Specialist was asked was it injury related and he said no it was something she was born with. I have heard/read its not commonly caused by injury unless its due to a traumatic injury (which I would know about) and she has certainly never had one. I do worry about her right hind but the specialist gave it a pretty thorough checking over after he missed the left hind (in his defense though her situation deteriorated fairly quickly which is in part why when I returned 2 months later and it had continued to worsen surgery was going to happen sooner rather than later). She had excellent muscle tone though which was supporting everything which is why it was never discovered until she had been resting.
