Oh welcome to my world OSS. I am still feeling horrid that Kenz can't do stuff and her lameness issues are unfortunately persisting - grrrrrrrrrrr.
-
I paid ~ $600 at the specialist for front end xrays + ultrasound scans.
-
poor bedazzledx2 - maybe she could swap miss Chica for the kelpie .
-
 you forget to mention you also helped Ness learn scent discrim and most of UD via correspondence Ptolomy for which I am eternally grateful .
-
Sure she will be fine Piper and I might drop down with the video camera if I have nothing better that weekend .
-
Hmmm I think that sounds pretty standard - I haven't been charged for a follow ups with Kenz either. Speaking of which fingers crossed Tuesday is her last trip back to the specialist.

Chicko there are people who chose to follow conservative management to heal a torn ACL and successfully do so so yes scar tissue can hold the leg together. There is apparently no evidence to suggest that one is necessarily better in the long run and like anything there are a number of factors to take into consideration. A second or specialist opinion never hurts in ortho cases though.

Thanks Ptolomy - yep sure did make getting up at the crack of dawn all the more worth while. And the dog who I had to set out a track for also passed so my reputation as a tracklayer is still sitting at a 100% pass rate .

Finally a brag from me - given I have had Kenz out of action we have done bugger all in the way of trials this year in anything. Today I decided I'd give the old girl Ness a go with a tracking trial. We have barely managed to get out and train all season but we were fast running out of trials to enter so I thought I might as well give it a go. Well blow me away but the "old" girl did brilliant job ending up with not only passing her Track 2 but walking away with a "very good" rating to go with it. She was also best track under her judge for the day. Considering last night I said my heart wasn't in it and I really didn't want to bother going and wasn't sure she was 100% she did very well. Now to decide whether to enter the final trial for the year and see if she can get that remaining leg for her TD. Way to go Ness you have done me so well as a first performance dog and it only took us nearly 11 years to finally find a sport you excel in naturally . Not bad for my girl who will be 12 in a few months.

Good news about Rosie, RosieFT. Kenz has another physio appointment Monday and after what I thought was a "good" week she has just woken up from an afternoon nap and is back carrying her surgery leg . She is due back to the specialist in a few weeks, not sure exactly when he just said he will see her again in a few weeks when she has rebuilt some muscle.

Glad everything is going well with Rommi .

Treats on the ground in a container might be another one to work through if he is foodie. Maybe even sit down and create a list of possible distractions and rate them then work through them systematically. http://www.shirleychong.com/keepers/Lesson6.html

The other thing that might help is either finding a playmate who has a 100% reliable recall or a 100% stop (or even a dog who isn't really interested in joining in the game). That way you can set up the scenario so that the fun stops until he has recalled and you have rewarded and released him to play again. Controlled scenarios always work better in the learning stages. Or alternatively work on it with things you can control? i.e. if he likes to retrieve can you throw a toy and have him recall off the toy or things like that which you can set up and work through.

Here you go luvsdogs - Dance of the Mirlitons -
Having a dog forced out through injury really does LOTs for motivation but I don't recommend it. On the distraction front - popping the "kids" in the car when you duck to the local shops and spending 2-3 minutes training outside the local shopping centres is a goodie for working through "distractions". Oh and bonus is you can use the lights in the carpark. Increasing distractions at home for things like articles etc - just use food/toys anything. Video camera/tripod if you train alone so you can sit back and watch what your doing. On the equipment front - I have a really light weight solid jump made from fabric that just slips over bar jump and they live in my car (well when I am training LOL). The other thing I have done is suss out the local parks which may have lights or gate crash some of the sports clubs and use those as training distractions. We have a few around where you can still have ample space to steal lights and train dog without getting in anybody's way.

Yeah I had Kenz crated but Ness was sulky. Still I think its me I find Ness work to train these days (although she is loving her tracking so maybe we will just stick to that). If Kenz is ready to trial in last trial for the year I might just put Ness in for the sake of it and see how she does. -

Hmmm I tried running her through her routines - her little bitchy sister kept wanting to get in on the action so she wasn't much interested . -

SA has a DWD trial on the 28th of this month entries close next Monday. Still can't decide if I am going to enter. I have cut new music edits for a HTM and a Freestyle routine for Ness (she has 1 DWDF.S pass) but with Kenz out of action my heart isn't in it . -
Happy Birthday Gibbs - like the look of your pressies your certainly a spoiled boy.

mirawee lets say I just reached the point of screw it - well within reason obviously we have been doing 15-20 min walks and she is still limping but not related to the length of the walk (specialist isn't concerned at this point) and she needs to build muscle so I have been going with what she wants within reason. Leash walking her a little further isn't going to hurt and she is suppose to be at 20 min this week anyway. She is a happy little girl if her lunchtime training session is anything to go by. Not only was she doing all her "exercises" but she was back to throwing me responses when I was training Ness and fast and accurate - a fairly good sign she isn't feeling sore. She is now sprawled underneath my computer desk in front of the heater - what a hard life she lives. And Ptolomy further to our discussion of Rally I now have an old style LAT on her kind of . Well when she doesn't take it as a cue to line up on the right side instead. Hoping to attach a nice solid verbal cue to it.

Today is a good day - Kenz had her first decent length walk (~2km) since surgery. Loved every minute of it and definitely wanted more . Fingers crossed she continues to improve.
-
 RS except I also have 2 small i-squeaks dated 2006 - one is dead and the rubber has worn the other is just dead with no squeak.
-
RS the one Kenz was playing with today has a 2006 trademark on it and it still squeaks . Which is even funnier because it then predates her by 2 years .

the look on Lexi's face is priceless Ptolomy.
