Dog Behaviourist In Adelaide - Recommendations Please
ness replied to BDJ's topic in General Dog Discussion
Worth checking out anybody on the positively dogs website. Debra Millikan is full of knowledge and extremely helpful. She would be a good starting point. She has been instrumental in positive training methods in the state. Her details are listed here - http://positivelydogs.com/faq/ -
It sucks so badly. Have you tried any physio to help GSK? Kenz had lots of trigger points in her surgery leg and they weren't doing her any favours. I find it interesting that a normal vet checked it over and said he couldnt find a problem with it but the chiro vet and the specialist both tell me its still luxating a little to much . Kenz's issues are compounded by this random RH lameness which nobody seems to know what is going on. Her patella on that side was checked and rechecked under sedation and deemed not a problem.

Bigpuppy - there is an ortho dog yahoogroup which may be worth joining. Plenty of members have vast experiences with all sorts of problems regarding TPLO surgery complications. While its predominately a US group there are members from all around the place. All the best with your pup.

No PA I don't mean the physical side, the change in routine seems to mess quite badly with their mental side as well or so I found. Kenz is/was a timid/nervy dog and I worked hard with the input of K9Pro to get her to the point where I could take her out and trial her and nobody could really pick how bad she use to be. It was this side that again became more apparent after she had been out of commission. It may not be what has caused Scooter's regression entirely but I wouldn't discount it as being a part of what may have caused the regression either from my own experience.
-
PA - don't beat yourself up over Scooter at the moment. I can't remember how many weeks its been since he had surgery but I know Kenz got knocked around quite a bit and a few times I got a bit frustrated with her regression in behavior. She is 6 months post surgery and even now I know she isn't all the dog she was before. The first time we went back out to training she was nearly 16 weeks post-op and even though she had been out and about again from about week 7 I certainly didn't have the same dog I had worked so hard to achieve pre-surgery.
-
Hmmm they were helping something but Kenz's situation is not seemingly straight forward now. Some of what is happening may be compensation for goodness knows what and it seems to be about tracking down and isolating what is actually causing the problem.

No blood tests - specialist hasn't been back yet so I haven't been able to follow that up with him as a possibility. Yep perfectly normal re the physio and being sore - she has had lots of treatments on and off for the last 2 years so I am well versed in the what to expect after. Its not her first physio appointment she had plenty to help the shoulder. The physio specifically said no swimming for a bit but other than that she wasn't to worried. She also said normally no stairs but considering Kenz has been self moderating those anyway she wasn't worried. It was the racing up and down she wasn't keen on and Kenz doesn't do that now. She knows I am sensible about what I will and won't allow and I tend to er on the side of being a little cautious these days anyway. She also understands nutty active dogs as she has working breed dogs herself so understands that they do push themselves so I am pretty confident that she understands what Kenz is like when she specifies what she can and can't do. The good news is the shoulder that was causing her grief FOREVER apparently feels really good and no evidence of anything to much going on there :).

Oh it wasn't bad , we are hoping it actually helps. The trigger points were all treated. Kenz seems much happier this morning although no anti-inflams at bedtime last night and she wouldn't come up the stairs. Interesting in itself.

Hmm one of my snooza cuddler is fairly old >4 years and still fine although a little flatter then it was originally. My second one is around 4 years old and still fine. I haven't replaced stuffing in either of them.

Shame on you Tassie - you weren't shopping AGAIN -
Update after her physio appointment - she is a bit of a mess but I am not sure we are any the wiser. Some quite significant soreness in through her back and trigger points in her LH. Going to see how she gets on but apparently if she is worse for a few days as a result of the appointment I shouldn't be surprised.

Clean run have the white saratoga coats on free shipping as well at the moment. They dry out fairly quickly though.

You guys are bad - I am being good and resisting this time . -
hmm I could loan you Ness she is pretty scary yellowgirl :D.
-
Yeah seems to - well in so much as the LH is concerned. She has not had any random RH episodes though. Interesting last 2 nights at bedtime she has had absolutely no hesitation racing up the stairs. Tonight I acted the same as I have the last two nights - she stopped with her front feet on the bottom stair and wouldn't budge. . Very bizarre.
-
Yellowgirl I sent you a PM re costs but it was a few years ago when I received the information so it may well have changed.

CavsRcute - thanks for the feedback. Glad to know others have dogs who present as complicated pictures. The chiro vet we use does do acupuncture but at this stage since there is some question over the LH patella he doesn't want to see her back at the moment. She has a physio appointment booked for Wednesday just because at the moment I don't know what else to be doing and I also know she has been limping on and off for so long I want to make sure she hasn't thrown anything else out of whack in the interim. Its been a couple of months since her last appointment.
-
Interesting - not sure totally what to make of it but she has now been on anti-inflams for a couple of days, she is allowed walks but only short leash walks. We are just back from a walk and she was definitely still having hind end lameness issues and it looked LH. Very confusing.
-
Showed the physio another video I took pre starting her on the anti-inflams (from yesterday as I held off 24 hours in order to see if I could get better video for the specialist) and her view is that it doesn't look stifle related but could still be referred pain from the back. So she know also a physio appointment next week in the interim. . Ropeable she wasn't 100% but she had been improving and now since the attack she is struggling more then she was . They better hurry up and refund the vet bill from last week because I desperately need the money before next weeks physio appointment .
-
The chiro vet thinks the problem is neuromuscular rather than muscular skeletal :) - to much terminology. Rheumatoid arthritis did get a mention as a possibility when the specialist requested joint taps/EMG.
-
Nobody any the wiser as to what is going on but she does now have a 7 day course of pain relief which I guess is the outcome to be expected and one of my reasons for taking her.

Kenz is now off to the local vet this afternoon. She just came up non weight bearing in her right hind again while we were playing in the yard. I can at least get her some more pain killers until the specialist is back .
