Another Joint Supplement: Rose-hip Vital Canine
ness replied to ness's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Here is the dosage instructions - 2 scoops a day for the first three weeks (loading dose) and then 1 scoop a day ongoing for dogs less than 15kg, 4 scoops a day loading and then 2 scoops ongoing for dogs between 15 and 30kg and 6 scoops a day loading followed by 3 scoops ongoing for dogs heavier than 30kg. Not sure on the capsules. The most economical way would be to purchase a 500gm tub the smaller tubs don't last a medium size dog very long. I think you would be safe with using the dogs less then 15kg dose. Thats what I had my 14kg BC on until we started messing with dosage to try and cut out her NSAID usage that she needs. -
Fiveplusone - I probably wouldn't worry at this time of year given we are coming into winter. It you have been giving them all through summer monthly then I would relax about it. I know people who opt to give them every 6 weeks over winter anyway or stop them completely. I gather there is heartworm here and all the vets do recommend protection but cases are not especially frequent. I know people who don't use anything although most do seem to.

Undiagnosed Lameness - Getting Desperate
ness replied to Bluebell's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
That would be my starting point Bluebell. My agility friends have taken dogs to Sandra and I know one of them asked for some information regarding Kenz's case when we were battling to get to the bottom of her issues. If they trust her with the care of their dogs then I would be trying her first . -
Undiagnosed Lameness - Getting Desperate

Are you able to get access to a good chiro vet or physio? Front end lameness can be a bugger of a problem to work through. I wouldn't necessarily rush straight to a specialist. It may be soft tissue type damage which won't show on an x-ray. Is the dog lame all of the time? Worse when it gets up? Does it appear to warm of the lameness at all? -

goodonya - ok you win. Kenz just has a tantrum at the bottom of the stairs until the princess gets carried up. Apparently though if she is on pain meds princess rules don't apply and she races me up to the bed and waits on their instead. Westiemum the borders were a little upset they didn't get a second tea at 6:30 . Although Kenz did get a second tea at 7 with her carprofen - hot smoked salmon tonight . -
Is Rally O Suitable For Older Dogs?
ness replied to whitka's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yeah Clover, its quite surprising how hard some of the novice moves are from that respect. It can be made worse by the order of stations as well. Our first trial we had a sit/halt as the second station and then the 1,2,3 step sit a the second station and my youngster found that very hard going physically. She was about 5-6 months post-op from memory but had been released to normal activity for at least 3 months. -

Actually you have a point JulesP next time Fish and Chips are on the menu westiemum can have the 2 borders and me over for tea . Hmmmm the bords ate tea at 4pm today = they were hungry . But they said they will still be around at 6:30 for seconds . -

Lounge = hmmmmm the borders will just take over the bed instead Yeah think the starved ones would be more then happy with that on the menu. They may otherwise be forced into consuming dry food here tonight . They say the only problem with your menu is the time its being served. They are use to eating at 5pm on the dot so they might be a little hungry by 6:30 . I could have packed a collar and lead for Oliver. Think I have a Rogz that the bord outgrew . Urgh must go find human food and enough for the parents as well - double yikes. -
LOL I don't find it stops Kenz - she just jumps and then injures herself because she can't jump properly - stupid BC of very little brain.

yes mine have put a specialist request in and would like to know if westiemum would like to temporarily care for 2 VERY STARVED BCs . Which reminds me I went out to brave the Easter shopping crowd today - came back with 4 lamb forequarter bits and 2 tins of sardines = 2 very well fed BCs and picked up bugger all for me so I now have to brave the shops for a second time . -

 then you know what I would do - take a chair and a picnic basket and go and watch . Or offer to help steward I know the obedience clubs here are always grateful of offers of assistance. Or yep do as JulesP does - train the dog and enjoy it as a fun activity but don't worry about the added pressure of trying to trial. -

Depends on the dog to some extent Whitka - do you have access to somewhere you can do it for fun and that way you can just preclude those stations requiring lots of repetitive sits. As people keep telling me there are plenty of ways to enjoy a dog without trialling (well most dogs, try telling that to Kenz who would rather train then walk). -

My now 12.5 year old managed her RN title just after her 12th birthday. I do agree though the sitting and getting up again seems to be hard going on dogs with joint issues. I know even my super high drive youngster struggled after surgery for a stifle issue. She got through but I can tell it wasn't comfortable for her. My oldie Ness - this was her second pass and she did manage her novice in straight passes. I have not opted to go on with Advanced with her though as she is struggling a little more these days. -
Hmm dunno whats this T word - hmm now sending Rory to come amuse cousin Kenz on the other hand . Maybe he could train her in the art of water biting and helping water .
-
Yeah only beta installation Rory will get is if you install him with a new trainer who actually trains .
-
I think as a breeder you should still display empathy and offer moral support and understanding if nothing else. Not saying you aren't but sometimes its not so much the financial heartache in these situations but the emotional heartache. Problems happen despite all the best intentions in the world.
-
Yeah go on rub it in TheLBD - a certain bord is eagerly awaiting your arrival and you to get your act together and get sheepies to train on .
-
Speak for yourself Tassie - nothing wrong with only jumping little jumps in agility you can still pull just as many bars .
-
Tassie I think Rory needs to come visit cousin Kenz for a training holiday .
