I would be going down the path of a luxating patella especially if the vet cant find anything going on in a consult situation. It took plenty of vet visits to get Kenz's diagnosed. Way more then I would have liked and even knowing she had one in her LH it still took them nearly 12 months to diagnose the RH so yes they can be complicated.

i ordered mine from Murray Tyler - shipping was around $30 or so from memory.
-
Westiemum I ordered mine through Spoilt Dog. They use to stock some and were happy to order in the size and colour I wanted. That was quite a few years ago now though but you could always call in and ask.

There are also other emerging genetic conditions lurking in the breed so I would be quizzing any breeder about other "health" conditions which may have occurred in their lines and been reported back to them. Any breeder who isn't open to discussing health issues for which there is a genetic basis which may have cropped up in their lines (in their dogs or ones placed in other homes) would be one I wouldn't be considering. Unfortunately things happen even with the best will in the world but after having been down the path of lucking out with BC who happens to have BC collapse (among other genetic issues) and tentatively considering breeders for a future pup when I have raised the question I have had a varied response but also found out about other health issues in lines. I wouldn't have known to ask until I have been down the path I have been and its certainly not one I would wish on any prospective BC owner. Hopefully its one of a few conditions for which there will eventually be a genetic test available and the sooner the better in my book.

 sorry just saw your post. I got them ordered in through the Spoilt Dog at Highgate. I got the mock natural lambswool but i also wrap the middle section with a cheapie fleece blanket as it saves me washing them quite so often and keeps them looking less dirty .

Mine both have cuddlers fiveplusone and love them .

Pool swimming is better for cardio but if you need rehab for injury then underwater treadmill is much better but yes unfortunately its not cheap either .
-
Could be a luxating patella could also be muscular. Hopefully its the latter and not the former.

Certainly not an easy decision and one made worse not only by the fact she is my baby girl but also the fact that my oldie is 13 shortly and while she is going well for the moment I could see myself going from 2 dogs to no dogs in the blink of an eye and thats a scary potential reality to bring my head around . Kenz still has good days and thats when I just get frustrated at what the situation is . Its not just me though I think part of Kenz is frustrated at what she can't do and isn't really coming to accept limitations. She still tries and still wants to do things . She could probably get by if she was a mellow couch potato who liked to take life easy and just do nothing.

My problem with that is surgery - may help (or at least mean she may be able to do a little more) or I may be stuck in a position of having spent lots of money and put her through a few more months of hell with no real positive long range outcome. I just don't feel very optimistic anymore . I have had recommendations from the experts of both ways but I just don't know .
-
What do you do with a mind that is so very willing but a body that can't cope with anything .
-
Crystal ball is not helping . Poor girl. Drugs aren't really a long term anything solution for her and don't really seem to be improving the situation greatly. One very bored BC .
-
If you want something which may work over the longer term - you could also consider putting Sonny on the Rose Hip Vital Canine which is a natural anti-inflammatory which is a little different to a glucosamine supplement like Joint Guard.
-
Sorry to hear about Sonny. I would be crate resting and if its not improved take him to the vet. I am not sure I would be giving him Aspirin. If you think he needs pain meds they probably worth going to the vet for an anti-inflam.

Its ok Ptolomy just drink to it - the world will then be a better place once again .

Hmm yes we have had a percentage chance quoted its ok its not great. Then of course the complication is the BCC issue. Given she is struggling to cope and its winter I am very concerned how she will get on over summer. .
-
Yeah 2 months strict rest for the first repair then the minimum time frame before considering the second repair is 8 weeks and then she will need 8 weeks strict rest. Then she is allowed to start short leash walks. 8 months minimum is the total time back to a normal life and yes it seems like an eternity . And thats just presuming it all goes to plan .

Sleepy Drugged BC .
-
Not sure - surgery is still being considered but I just don't feel especially positive about it and its not just 1 its 2 and 4 months crating .
-
All stupid back end - she is now struggling to do her tricks that she could do perfectly well 48 hours ago. She just goes nope can't. Started last night and when I asked her again today she still couldn't. These are tricks she is rock solid in and has been doing each day for the last few weeks to try and help. I can't seem to even let her out of the car for a quiet sniff at the park without struggling.

Hmm thats a bit random PuddleDuck . Neither of mine went hyper on it. Curiosity that one :D. -
So a certain little BC tonight packed herself off to bed in her crate and came up seriously front end lame. God its starting to look like we have been here before and I don't like it at all.

That could be very wishful thinking Piper. Hopefully for your sake its only the minimum they quoted but not my experience.
