I would probably be more anal if I were training a new pup or dog from scratch with what I know now. Having said that I can get really good work with my current girl if we reward 1 step and then build it up but my patience doesn't stretch that far with an almost 7 year old.

Thats the reason I like it so much dogdude . Something draws you into wanting to watch more and more LOL.

UK Style heelwork all the way for me - unfortunately my girl has different ideas . So ok she has suffered as I have stuffed around with exactly where I want her. Will see on the weekend exactly what type of heelwork we get in the ring.

I love Sage and Lexi . Sage was bloody unlucky to miss out on winning the Excellent Agility and Lexi did extremely well with her win in Novice. I actually finally met Hotnote Mr Goodbar to - well I introduced myself to his handler.

Ness loves there training treats but I was considering just using the normal food for treats. We ordered from from an online store once but I thought they might be a good thing to keep on hand for a bit of variation or especially in summer when things like cheese and cooked treats get yucky.
-
I have been tempted to get some to use as training treats. $28 for a kilo of training treats isn't to bad. Especially on some days when we do training and I don't usually give her dinner after. Problem is trying to find it in Adelaide. Cassie have you seen it anywhere?

I am sure Yogi is making Ricky feel right at home and being the gentleman he is - showing him the ropes of life at the bridge. Then he will be back to chasing and doing zoomies and all that he enjoys.

Keep New Pup Together With Other Dogs Or Apart?

Well done to Moses and CTD on there success in obedience . -
Will She Indicate, Should She Indicate?
ness replied to Cosmolo's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My thoughts were she should indiciate on it presuming you have taught her to indiciate to whatever lower odour level then that contained within the cream and secondly that there isn't something in the cream that would sufficiently mask the basil odour. Oh and thirdly that the REAL basil contained in the cream is of the same make and nature as that which the dog was trained with . -
Obedience Trialling - Question On Stays
ness replied to KismetKat's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Oh yes open stays are a great chance to have a gossip session . Not done UD stays only at club and yep another chance for a gossip session :p . Open stays over in WA were hilarious (especially at the West Coast Challenge). One of the other handlers during the sit stay because they all knew we were sitting on our title kept telling me not to pass out when I returned to Ness and remain calm so she would complete the down stay . The down stay well lets just say that was the longest 5 minutes of my entire life. -
Bloody hell Ness would have got a leg if it hadn't been for that last jump. I just worked out she got 39 seconds - pure EVIL!!!!!!! I presumed she would have been well and truely over STC. Oh well.
-
So Tassie you can probably answer this question what was the STC for the Masters Jumping round on Sunday morning? I would like to know how close we would have come if she had jumped that spread rather than taken the broad LOL. Great to meet you and Kirra and you both ran very well in the Teams and should be extremely proud of yourself.
-
Response yes apart from in the finals .
-
Not sure if this helps much but from my observations and I am prepared to be corrected if I am wrong the male tollers all tend to be 500 dogs with the female tollers being either 400 or 500. That is just what I have observed from the dogs currently trialling here so my best guess would be that nova would be jumping 500.
-
Masters qualified dog would have run in masters and open. Ness was only in Excellent Agility but also Masters Jumping, Open jumping and open agility. We certainly enjoyed ourselves though and it was fantastic meeting a whole lot of new friends and great to catch up with others. Ness has hardly moved a muscle this morning - one totally exhausted dog. Not even much interested in breakfast . ETA. At least I finally got my head around how to play snooker after having cost my dog on a number of occasionals lol. Only 3 more legs now for our JDO!!!!
-
She'll be 7 in September so she isn't a spring chicken any more. Low is suppose to be better I think - Ness hasn't got the fastest weaving times I think hers are fast average speed from what I read about times on a yahoo list. So not to slow and fast enough to be competitive to a certain level but not fast enough to beat your superfast masters dogs.
-
Oh I just read in the jumping she was suppose to take the spread not the broadjump .
-
That single jump near the spread - you can see it in the video. Whats more I took her over after they had run the final and little goose did it correctly .

Some runs aren't any easier to watch the next day - still bitterly disappointed that a stupid mistake cost us a qualifying round and placing in the finals yesterday but I guess I still love her. For those of you who don't know she was attacked by a kelpie on Wednesday morning and was looking doubtful for the Nationals. She is never going to be up there with the top Masters dogs but she tried her little heart out all weekend. It was a huge weekend for her with 16 runs in 3 days and not once did she switch off or shut down. Even her finals run she gave me her all. Impressed with her 3 passes (at least she got one in each of games, agility and jumping so got one each of the different types of qualification sashes). Any way in order we have our run which qualified her for the Excellent Agility finals. Her open jumping pass on Saturday morning. Her Masters Jumping round from Sunday which wasn't a pass but there were only 15 qualifiers and everybody else was disqualified and Ness nearly got around the course apart from taking the wrong last jump. Finally Ness's ill-fated run in the 2007 Excellent Agility Final!!!! - so close yet so far.
-
I am refusing to talk about tollers (mostly because Ness was beaten out of third spot in Excellent by a bloody toller ) but we were taking it easy. I know coops and mango were entered and I believe mango managed at least a pass (possibly 2). Coops well he had a case of 1 thing go wrong. Didn't get to see them run.
-
Well we have had 3 quallies to date - 1 in novice snooker (our first at long last - I finally got the rules right ). Open jumping this morning. Then....................... We managed a fourth place and quallie in excellent agility thereby securing a spot in the finals tomorrow afternoon. We played on the conservative side today just to get a spot but will go all out for it tomorrow (well we will try).
-
Perthies hhmmmmmm... - Gina O'Keefe (3 poodles - 2 Standards and a Toy and now in agility with her Borrowed BCs) - Sue Hogben (Goldie, BCs, tollers) - Sandi Gee (tollers) - Cathy Snook (toller) (and they are just some of the names like I said most dogs over there would be being trained using positives)

Me me me - wheres my rock .

I think it depends a bit on how exactly use use a NRM. It also depends on the response of the dog to it. My thoughts are if you have to give a NRM then the dog is confused and you need to split whatever you are teaching down further into smaller increments so the dog is successful.
