Topic Change - Now E-collar Question
ness replied to MolassesLass's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Nope it doesn't say whether the dog will work stock or not but I think if the dog shows some stalking behavior on birds and its calm and methodical compared with the rush and chase of prey drive then I would think its worth a shot. I am not in a position of much experience but I have tried my pup on ducks in a herding setting and I know she responds differently to the way my much older dog does. Even at the park where there are ducks my older one will stalk a bit but then rush in whereas the younger one will spend much more time watching and stalking then actually charging and rushing. I know my older one isn't very good at herding but then she only had her first shot at 5 or 6 and god knows what bad behaviors I had encouraged over the years (probably a few). Funny thing is though on the "stalking/rounding behavior" my older girl was much more movement sensitive as a baby of inappropriate things like cars/trucks whereas I haven't seen the same behavior in my youngster yet (although she is only 6 months). -

Yep the one I go to has formal qualifications and was also a qualified vet although we tried another one who was closer who was also a qualified vet and I would never return there again . -

yep PF the things I know now - although touch wood my older girl seems to respond to one or two treatments and the problems resolve. Although then I tend to get a bit lazy and not bother taking her back unless she has an obvious problem. Getting better though. -

True PF. The pup is 6 months old and certainly doesn't look to have any issues. Maybe I can get a discount on the pair . -

Yeah the one I go to charges $50 so yep I am going to be a bit relunctant to take her just to get her checked since I am not made of money. -

Interesting ML, I actually never considered that. I guess I was concerned about them doing too much when they are still growing and constantly changing. -

Interesting poodlefan. I did mention to the person I take Ness to that I had a youngster and he was like why haven't you bought her along yet and my comment was well I haven't broken her yet . He isn't exceedingly cheap either. -
Just curious as to what age you would consider having a dog checked over and whether that decision was made based on apparent injury/problem or just as a routine check. I on a semi-regular basis get my older girl checked but no idea when you might start taking a pup for checks. I haven't actually asked the guy I go to for his recommendation but I was just curious. I started taking my older when when she was exhibiting problems/well ok when I finally admitted she needed to go.

Nope you can find the originals they are listed as an original folder. I have my iphoto library backed up as the library but also was trying to free up some space on my HD so did an event burn.

LP I don't drink red wine so I am happy as long as the ice coffee and chocolate supply hasn't been tapped .
-
LOL trust Ptolomy to be drinking all the red wine - now just save us some chocolate please .
-
Nope she is a Cloud nine hog LP - I have said she better make room for me up there next year . ETA. I do have it on good authority those LP that its not changed much since last time we were up there so hopefully it won't be long before we can relocate there again .
-
Ptolomy - yeah very much a team effort to get them onto the web. ETA. What a year you have had Ptolomy - think you must be permanently located on cloud nine .
-
LP - well apparently sitting after the RAT in seekback is an optional extra as is actually presenting the seekback in front, apparently we might as well save the extra effort and go directly to heel . I might add a few weeks ago she thought running out around the jump was the thing to do on the ROH. Just as well her Open performance this morning was a darn sight better than her UD.

Ner ner ner LP .

You can export the photos as jpegs and then open them in photoshop. I don't like the new version of iphoto as I am not sure where the originals are stored on the computer. I burnt a truckload to CD and you get a folder on there called originals and modified and if you open the originals folder you have access to the jpegs.

Well Ness managed a 181 in Open and second place today. She did give me some very lovely finishes

A Question For Working Dog Breeders/owners
ness replied to Fevah's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
The Canine Association has herding days occasionally (well mornings) but a lack of access to stock transport has limited them to duck days recently. They are hosting a herding trial at the end of the month, well as long as the weather cooperates. To participate in the canine sessions you have to be a member of SACA and the dog registered with the canine. Hopefully Piper will come along and post here, otherwise drop her a PM as she is on the herding committee for SA and can probably tell you more than I. -
Tassie you could always come over and have Kenzie cuddles too .

Yep I think both of mine have an allergy to pollen at the moment. In fact I don't know maybe this year is super bad as Ness has just turned 8 and I don't remember her having quite as many problems in past years. I have her on an anti-histamine a day and I think its helping. My pup just gets gunky eyes so I am rinsing them out with warm salty water.
-
Hey Biker girl - congratulations on your CDX with Seven. It was lovely to meet you both and you did extremely well. Think Kenzie is in love with GSDs now . Thanks for the best wishes for UD we sure need it, although she is showing enough promising signs to suggest that when she does manage to get her act together she will pass with flying colours. All the best with your UD journey and hopefully we see you back in Adelaide for some more trials sometime .

She just likes her food way to much and its NOT helping that her sister doesn't really like food that much and so stashes away or walks away from her dinner and no matter how hard I try and supervise them Ness still manages to get extras now that she wasn't getting before.
