  1. Try Dr Scott Rose at SA Vet Referrals. He did my 13 year old girl Border Collie Ness's cruciate repair last Friday and was especially impressed with the thoroughness of her consult and also subsequent surgery discharge information and physio exercise recommendations. I have had on-going dealings with the other ortho at the clinic (Dr John Punke) with my problem dog Kenz, but he has recently left to move interstate however I had no hesitation in getting his colleague to operate on my old girl when she ruptured her cruciate a few weeks ago. I can't say I have dealt with Roseworthy but I have dealt with the other specialist centre in the past and ended up getting my second opinion from Dr Punke and have only dealt with SA Vet Referrals since and have been nothing other than extremely happy with how they have dealt with me and continued to deal with Kenz on an extended basis. It was a no brainer for me when Ness needed surgery. Matthew is great as well and normally my first point of contact for a lameness issue. He is somewhat conservative about his recommendations re referral to specialists and surgery though.
  2. will have to send those links to my parents Bully. They are going to be in for trouble keeping my 13 year old who is day 2 post-op for a cruciate repair from being feral if the last 2 days are anything to go by.
  3. paddles Steve is very scary in a consult (be afraid be very afraid ... nah just stirring you will come out the other side much improved). Relax and have fun as that is what dog training is suppose to be .
  4. Pretty sure Inevitablue's ACDs are from there - PM her if she doesn't see this thread or I can point her in the direction.
  5. HTM to mostly heelwork in any of the 8 positions. DWD is anything goes. Obviously DWD still will have some heelwork but there is more emphasis on other things. I do agree if you watch some of the trials here you will struggle to find a difference. I tend to like including a prop and more distance work in a DWD routine whereas heelwork to music the dog is mostly in one of the various heel positions.
  6. Another Rally trial this morning and another Advanced A pass for miss Kenz. Always nice to get the bonus leg and keeps her Rally record qualification rate at 100%. She did very well given it was a judge she isn't keen on and has had problems with. Good little girl :).
  7. well done Xena - always a bonus not to stuff up and misread any signs. I was proud that I managed to get it right this morning .
  8. Thanks Ptolomy she was a good little girl. Well done to stud dog and Moo - so much for the hadn't trained them and they weren't going to pass . Note to self for future DWD competitions make sure you always take two copies of the music or feed the stud dog more or find music he doesn't think he has to eat .
  9. Hmm we just don't talk about it JulesP. Specialist was happy enough for her to try and get on with life and that is what we have been trying to do. She has good days and bad days and her bigger problem is still the exercise induced collapse risk. I just asked nicely that she was scheduled early and took a chance. Rally is probably the limit of what she can do and we don't really train much these days. She had finished off two legs at the States with no training so thought we would try for the third.
  10. Brag time for miss Kenz. Having not been in the Rally obedience ring since April we decided today to try for our final RA pass and she cruised through to her title. Given her life has been turned completely upside down with Ness moving to my parents place after she ruptured her cruciate less then a fortnight ago I was so proud of my baby girl. Ness has always played support crew for much of Kenz's training and trialling. I am also more then a little preoccupied with Ness and pending surgery so for Kenz to come out firing and then some was something very special. She has a heart of gold for all of her physical and mental issues she has had to work through. Other than a somewhat new inventive jumping over the sign rather than taking the bar jump she hardly put a paw wrong. Well done my little girl. Just wish your big sis was home so she could share in the customary title maccas mcbites - maybe that can be Thursday afternoons pre-surgery treat.
  11. Kenz started tugging the night she bounced off the plane from WA .
  12. I had an incident I should have reported and didn't as I do think things happen and appreciate you do occasionally get dogs acting out of character. 12 months later it happened again. Same dog. You can bet the second time around the incident was reported.
  13. yes well I wasn't going to mention the nip or the body slamming .
  14. If I use a NRM with my youngster she back chats and tells me exactly what she thinks but agree then tries extra hard .
  15. I use front as my formal recall command. Criteria is sit square close in front of me (eg perfect recall position).
  16. Hi Cali, I am also grateful to the likes of Mystiqview for alerting me to the possible existence of BCC in the breed. I have contributed my affected girls blood to the research so hopefully in the future nobody else will suffer a similar situation as while its seemingly not life threatening as such its very frightening. I think part of the problem is conditions in the breed for which you don't hear about until you have a dog with the condition. I am sure there are more affected dogs out there who aren't showing the signs because they don't have all the other factors or may not be in situations were they are likely to.
  17. The backseat buddy can be separated so you can still have a passenger in the back seat. The two halves are zipped together.
  18. Yep have one in the back of my car and its awesome . There is an entire thread on the awesomeness of back seat buddies already posted on DOL.
  19. Kind of a brag of a different sort but my first performance dog Ness celebrates her 13th Birthday today. Where have 13 years gone! She has introduced me to just about every dog sport under the sun, done all that I have asked and introduced me to a whole bunch of equally awesome friends. Love my gorgeous old girl and may we still have many years left of enjoying trips to the beach and romps at the park. Lochness CDX RN TD ADM JDM ADO JDO SPD GD SD (1/2 DWDFS)
  20. Hmm Mitcham Council have a booklet re barking dogs and solutions . I think I just tossed it though. Pretty sure it was from the Dog and Cat Management board though so you might be able to get a copy from council.
  21. Has anybody purchased a Cool Runners Cooling Coat? Trying to work out sizing so hoping somebody may have purchased a medium and I can ask questions .
  22. Some great photos there piper .
