  1. I have seen one made from those car seat strap covers (you get them from the cheapie stores for like $2 a packet of two and they are sheepskin sort of material). Then you stitch a being of webbing through the middle and stitch top and bottom.
  2. I am hoping to start trialling later this year but at the moment probably won't do CCD and will go straight to novice since most of my training is done off-lead (mainly cos I am to lazy to get a lead out and I find it weird having to juggle a lead as well ).
  3. My fussy BC girl will eat the eaglepack holistic anchovy if I mix it with tuna or if she decides she is hungry.
  4. SA Dog Obedience Club will accept C3 but prefer C5. http://www.sadogobedience.org.au/
  5. There are plenty of good dog trainers in Perth (especially agility) I would make an effort to start club training with him. Agility Dog Club of WA run a fantastic training program.
  6. Huh why not - I have played the 2 toy game with Ness using the dumbbell and have also played it with Kenzie. The rule is really that if you ask them to present with the DB they shouldn't drop it. So you never wait for the dog to get within 1/2 meters and throw the food or toy because once they are in that zone they are then expected to present/front.
  7. Rubystar I haven't had a problem with Kenzie and she has been both foundation training for both from day dot. Ness did have 12 months of obedience first because thats the way we did it then. Having said that the there is a lot to be said for teaching an obedience dog to heel on the right anyway as it evens up their muscles.
  8. Think you need to get a video camera JulesP so we can see what Poppy is up to .
  9. What conflicts with agility and obedience? I never found anything that conflicts really. There are also HUGE context cues which make it easier for the dog to see what its happening and I find they are quick to read those.
  10. Mine do both and the only limit is the lack of time . I really want to try things like tracking and herding with my youngster but there just aren't enough hours in the day. My older one has both agility and obedience titles and I hope the youngster will go the same way.
  11. Sorry Jules was dealing with miss Kenzie's spaying yesterday. Great news about Poppy. I didn't try to straighten the poles entirely as I wasn't happy with her extreme entries. Figured that could wait and there was no rush. Also figured I want the behavior generalised to other locations a bit first. Hopefully when she is recovered I can get on to straightening them. I find Kenzie is driving a bit hard and the one time I did try and straighten them she didn't bend herself back enough to get the second set. Was hitting the entry with no problems.
  12. Ok I have to have a brag because its the final word I can add to this thread for a while since Kenzie is being spayed tomorrow so will be out of action for a while but I decided tonight I would pop the 2 sets of poles in the car and take the show on the road. Well she picked up where she left off at home. If anything she was driving harder and more committed to her poles then our previous sessions. Tickled pink with my little ratbags efforts after only minimal training time. She has the poles rotated 1/7 just about normal distance, was hitting entries from distance with good speed, head down driving through. She loves the game and always wants more then I train. Hopefully its a good place to take a break and let her "sleep on it" and she comes back just as strong when she has recovered from the operation.
  13. You sure do JulesP . I had to get me a new one when I old one stopped last week.
  14. Yeah I tried SG's poles far apart bit and it wasn't working for me. She just thought she had to run between any 2 poles. So usually she would forget the first set and I sucked with my rewarding the first set bit - just confused her. Then she thought she only had to do the one set and would arc out wide after running through set 1.
  15. Just in the process of uploading my session from this morning. Her early morning one before the beach was better but I didn't have my brain in gear at that hour of the day. We are only doing maybe 5 attempts in one turn now and she is doing very well. ETA. Jules P not sure how far your poles are apart but I was getting a lot of confusion when the poles were a distance apart. Now they are basically just a touch over competition distance still rotated and I don't find her wanting to enter at the second set as much.
  16. One suggestion I was given when I was teaching Ness who had a similar problem, no matter what I tried she wouldn't connect what I wanted to the box, she thought the exercise was run half a dozen paces turn and sit was to place the box on bricks so the dog had to step into it. I can't remember what I did in the end but it might be worth a go and see if that helps. Kenzie I lured a few with food and then waited her out and then just use toys when I reward in the yard.
  17. What is she doing with the box Seita - I have had no problems teaching that to Kenzie.
  18. Ok no video today because I decided to change tactics a fraction. Instead of having 2 sessions planned and videoed I adopted the half a dozen attempts approach whenever she was annoying me to play with her or whenever I happened to head outside into the yard. Found getting the video cam out sort of defeated that approach. Well she has gone from missing and running around the 2 poles to basically nailing difficult entries with the poles barely rotated (1/7), spaced at just greater then the poles being in a straight line. The day started out at 2/8 with a few misses in entry when I was up high in the arc on the right hand side. Tonight she will send from anywhere around level with the second set of poles and still get her entry a lot of the time (a few times she doesn't take herself out far enough) but when she does nail it she is head down and driving her poles. Will see if I can video something tomorrow. She just thinks its one huge game.
  19. Hmm sorry Ptolomy is one who actively trials (although she trains at canine). Sorbiquet would be another one who trials and might know.
  20. There are a few perth members who might know - maybe PM them or else I can point them in the direction of this thread.
  21. Laffi there are a few BC males who would be 22kg and solid muscle so I don't know it might be ok if he is a solid individual. Not sure whereabouts you are located but I might recommend if you can find a decent one making an appointment with a chiro/muscle person. If you can find one with a veterinary background even better. They might be able to suggest whether surgery is in fact required. My older girl was pulling up intermittently lame and non-weight bearing on a back leg and she was rushed off to the vet because she refused to put weight on it and the vet sent her home with anti-inflams and possibly a partially torn cruciate. I got her into her usual chiro as soon as I could and he treated her and sorted out the issue. I would also recommend swimming as a form of exercise .
  22. Yeah I am just rewatching the dvd feature did it a few times but trendy didn't. I also notice in the video she doesn't have the super extreme entries when she does the 2 sets poles - maybe I have just jumped a bit far.
