My nearly 13 month old BC was spayed last Tuesday and is recovering fine and is back to her usual feral self and me battling to keep her quiet (starting to ease up on that as of today) but I didn't ask the vet nurse when she was discharged what is the soonest I can take her swimming again. She said not to bath her for 10 days so does that mean after 10 days she should be fine to go back to the dog pool. She has dissolvable sutures so doesn't have to go back to have anything removed and I was told it could take up to 6 weeks for them to fully dissolve. I usually take my older girl to the pool once a week and my youngster tags along as well. Anybody know - I can always ring the clinic later today but thought I would ask on here in case somebody knows.

Only just Ptolomy - only just . ETA. Now if only the obedience gods would get on the same page as the agility gods :p .

Just a quick on from me - Ness finally managed leg 6 towards her ADM today. Not bad considering she might be carrying injury, not convinced either way. 1 more leg until she can retire . ETA. OMG I can't even type correctly tonight I must be buggered and now Ptolomy has quoted by poor grammar for prosperity :p .

I know the canon 500D shoots HD video as well as I happened to stumble across it when I was looking for HD video cameras. -
How Is Everyone's Weaving Going?

Ah ok JulesP - I guess I just presumed since you were to establish the reward line on each training session that you would have done some easier entries. Genuine question if you don't establish the reward line with an easy entry - how does Poppy then know which way she is to enter the poles? I still had Kenzie deciding to occasionally weave from the "wrong direction", until I realized that I had trained the poles in the opposite direction the day before (had switched them as the sun wasn't in the best place for videoing) and she presumed she was to enter from the normal direction as I hadn't yet established a reward line. -

But SG recommends starting each session with at least one or two repetitions in the "thin slice of the pie" to establish the reward line, so they still should do the easy entries with no problems. -
Shoey I was in the fortunate or unfortunate position of passing in straight trials with my first dog. She got her novice - 4 passes from 4 trials - trialled on the Sat and it was a Sat/Sun double and passed again on the Sunday. She did later fail at the Royal but cos entries had already closed when she had her title we were allowed to compete. That was in the old days where there were 2 novice heel patterns - ewwwwwww. Open we went to WA in 2006 for a three week holiday/training stint and entered there Obedience State Champs and passed - oops didn't think that would happen. We had already entered a trial following week and there was one further trial that closed the week following the states. Any way I decided since we had fluked the states pass I would enter that one. Finished off our CDX in straight trials (and have failed an awful lot since ). UD hasn't been quite as nice to me with no passes yet but hey we did come close in our first trial and she wasn't ready then so I live in hope that one day she will get her act together - having said that I also do need to do some training if I have any hope of a pass .

Looks good RubyStar. Maybe I should borrow your dog for my UD trial on Saturday .

Caffy and Ptolomy - actually the question is would Sue promote getting a toller for obedience - I have seen some of their antics in the ring . Jokers States performance in 2006 was a classic. Think I'll stick with working my BCs and just borrow my friends toller for corrupting and puppy toller cuddles . Ooops forgot Ptolomy GETOVERIT you have lessons with her all the time - you have to share her you know . -
I pulled out a set today and thought I would be good and my dog who is entered in a UD trial on Saturday was pure evil - she hasn't stuffed a set of articles in a very long time and she thought she would resort to snatch and grab so received a time out with no reward. Not totally harsh I got her back out did the leather that was causing the issue and rewarded and then called it a day. Kenzie did some work on article holding - seems to have a bit of a sticking point between picking the article up off the ground and me holding it reasonably low to the ground. Hoping we can get through it. No problems with holding and grabbing a DB off the ground. At least she is now back to holding the metal and not avoiding it completely.

Just watched your videos Heidii (actually I did watch them the other day and meant to comment) does he do the hard entries with the enthusiasm in the video when you had the 4 poles or when you have the 6 (like the one in your yard). I would say in the other video where you had the extra obstacles he wasn't really driving for the poles. He looked more committed and very impressive in the 6 pole vid but then it was just poles with nothing before it. I am just going on what I see in the videos. I mentioned to somebody that I hadn't tried it with my older girl because she wasn't toy motivated and I am not sure if you have tried but she said you could use the method using big chunks of food. Your collie doesn't look overly driven for the toy reward so either work at that separately or I would try using food if he is more driven for food then toys. You mentioned only doing it enthusiastically twice I would look at what your using to reward the dog for its efforts. I would also then only limit my session to 1 or 2 attempts in any one training session and hopefully leave the dog wanting more. Not an issue I face with my girl who will play again and again just for the chance to get her toy thrown. -

Nice work Heidii - how does he go with the more complicated entries? -
Interesting I am over the getting nervous stage with Ness but because her reactions are predictable to me when I trial now. I was nervous with Kenzie in the mock trial as I had no idea how she would react and she has a few issues with people so I was a bit concerned but she was better then I thought.

hey I have been excited about the prospect for years but don't get me started on that only taken Dogs SA a little while to get their act together. Sue is an absolute LEGEND and one of the greatest trainers in Oz (well along with Ptolomy ). Without them I would have been screwed and given up long ago with my older BC and without their valued input I wouldn't have my youngest BC so yep I am excited. Looking forward to all three days of both obedience and agility seminars . 8 more sleeps until the seminar and counting . Bring on next Friday. ETA. And Ptolomy we might be nice enough to return her to Perth when we have finished with her or I might just get lost on the way to the airport .
