I posted this in the BC thread but might as well post it here: - 1 rake handle ($3 from bunnings or kmart of all places) - I cut them in half to get 2 up-rights - 20mm PVC t's cut in half for jump cups. So I have both 400 and 500 height cups on mine so each jump needed 2 t's. - 150mm x 5.6mm bullet head nails (come in a pack of 16 from bunnings) - liquid nails 1. Cut rakes handle dowel to desire length - you could make them longer if you wanted to but they seem to be around 1.2m long so each jump ends up around 60cm (fine for mine who only need 400 and 500 jumps). 2. Drill hole in bottom of each length of dowel. 3. Cut top off nail. 4. Apply liquid nails into the hole in the bottom as well as long the nail and push nail into upright. Wipe away excess. 5. Cut jump cups in half and sand. 6. Drill 2 screws into the cups and drill attach to the dowel at the appropriate heights. 7. Optional painting - will attack mine with paint tomorrow. All up it took under 2 hours to make 7 jumps (well plus make another 7 uprights but the cups weren't attached to those as they belonged to my friend so she was going to do them later). Love the fact they are so easy and light to carry. Fit in a small bag for taking to the park - actually just a bag we got recently from buying pillows . If I want them any taller for whatever reason you can easily fit a length of PVC over the top of the uprights but I guess you could use longer lengths of rake handle.

I just made a set of 7 jumps (not full height uprights but works for me, its car sized and convenient) and worked out it would have cost around $100 give or take a bit. I only spent $55 but I already had the PVC bars and that didn't include the cost of the glue as my friend had bought enough for both of us. It did include 2 jump cups on each jump though. I bought base plated weavers but you could use the same principle on making weavers and that would be around $40 for a set of 12 stick in the ground poles.

Go Lexi - she knew her mum needed it - she must be close on her JDX title now too isn't she Ptolomy. She is such a good girl being able to be handled by somebody else and have her mum sit on the sidelines and video . While its a nice feeling to be out running its something else to be able to sit back and watch somebody else run your dog to perfection when it all goes right.

Go the red pocket rocket - way to go Lex .

36" would be the size that both my BC bitches have and they are 17kg and 14kg and have plenty of room. I can fit 2 of them inside a crate that size and they aren't squished at all. I think you could certainly get by with a smaller crate for a frenchie.

I might come for a while - will see what happens.

Yeah not surprised by the revised forecast - its not felt that warm today.

Yep did a bit of that but when it ends up falling back on your shoulders with nobody else overly interested it tends to fall by the wayside. Ah well guess that is always the way though and can't be helped. But agree if you can find a group of people who are all willing to pull their weight then I think it certainly works well.
-
Hmmm bedazzledx2 you might be running out of options if you wanted to find a club here .Not quite as fortunate as you lot over west to have a solid group of people who are happy and welcoming of helping others outside a club environment.

Backing up multiple steps without stepping in is just a shaping exercise LP. Gina taught Ness in about 2 minutes to back up 5-6 paces at the pet expo.

:D SecretKei Steve told me last night the letter is half drafted and it won't be much longer. Guess we just have to wait - unless it was one to many questions and now he has decided he won't come anymore . I mean these bloody South Australians who are forever asking too many questions - might have scared him off . -

RubyStar - Greg Derrett's DVDs would be a great starting point as would Susan Garrett's One Jump DVD. While Labs are known for agility there are a few around that compete - and I am pretty sure there are a number in WA that have competed or currently compete. Sue Hobgen's lab Diva does agility. -

Day 28 -
I am pretty sure he was the specialist that my vet friend was dealing with when her dog had cancer. The name sounds pretty familiar and I guess if she trusts one of her dogs to him then he must be very good at his job. Sorry probably not of any value to you.

Ankc Obedience, Rally And Tracking Rules Review
ness replied to bedazzledx2's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I am not so sure I agree with the adding of the sit to the COP exercise in Novice. Having witnessed a substantial number of open dogs miss a COP sit in the ring (my own included) I believe setting that as a part of Novice raises the bar further than it should be at that level and is honestly just one more thing to go wrong in the ring. I think the way novice is structured as it is is fine and a fair test of a dogs ability without needing to further complicate it. I am also not keen on the adding of any additional off-lead exercises in CCD. The longer the dog is without a lead in the class the more room there is for things to happen. I do agree with things like separating out the figure 8 from the heelwork and raising the passing score in CCD. -
Argh DOL gremlins.
