Just thought I would report in on my sit stay practice. I decided to work on some out in the garden just before. Interesting I have now gone to using a stay command. I kept them nice and short and didn't always stay insight - the way the house is set up I left her walked away and disappeared behind a corner of the building. No going into a drop and waited for her release cue before moving position. Even when I walked away, returned around behind (not not into a heel position just body length away) and walked away again she still waited .

Not weird - I rang them because they automatically send one out with 10 to go but usually I get to slightly less than 10 just before christmas and since I only use mine for trial entries there is no real need to order another one at the end of the trialling season. Just miscalculated the number of trials that seemed to all close Friday this week .

;) amypie I had a bit of a dilemma this week. I had 3 cheques left in my current cheque book and 4 to write . Talk about bad timing. Ah well have sorted it all out and back to being officially broke .
-
Thats what I usually do amypie but Ptolomy can probably confirm .

I just went out the front and played scent with Kenz - opted to put out a pile of half a dozen metals. We had a couple of times when she went out and tried to bring the first article back - no big deal (not bad since she is a reluctant metal retriever). Those two attempts funnily enough were within her first couple of attempts - after which time we built up to 7 unscented 1 scented and she was sniffing and only bringing back the correct metal. Once she sniffed maybe 4 or 5 incorrect articles before finding the correct one and didn't snatch and grab at all . I was pleased because she didn't once go mum metal articles are to hard and she perserved with picking them up even though she still isn't keen - good girl Kenzie. I was switching her with Ness so I could focus on some of my pick up/delivery issues with Ness (her woods are a disaster) so I placed out a scented wood in the metal pile to isolate the thing we are having issues with. First time I placed the wood, she found it returned and dropped it at my feet - well more like it slipped but sorry Ness you go back behind the fence and Kenz gets another turn . You can bet that next wood didn't land at my feet no matter how much I waved my hands around in front of her face. Not sure what to do from here - maybe woods or should we try for another metal session where she is 100% correct. She finds woods easier to retrieve . Session was cut short by the postie as I didn't want him running over my articles which were in the middle of the footpath ;) .

awesome - I am going to go out and play in a moment. Got to be some benefit to being injured - although the girls thought the fact that I accidentally managed to drop my bowl containing gelati just before an unexpected bonus ;) .

Hey Ptolomy - how far are you letting Cider carry the correct article before marking and how close to the pile are you standing out of curiosity.

that was called an obedience trial and there was a kelpie that walked past. Oops forgot to say that was the first time she had actually had a lead and collar on when training as well hence the scratching :D . Only included it cos she was sooo cute. I love they cheekie little sit she does when I had her bouncing around then asked for a sit - she gives me that same look now . Think it means trouble . Off to go post her first entry today - eeeek scary stuff.

Show off Ptolomy - right that does it I will play scent with the kids (well the Kenz kid and might just do a full set with Ness) when I get back from posting trial entries. Got to be some advantages to having been told to have no real computer time for 3 days :D .

I have to say I got it lucky in some ways Kenz did come with inbuilt focus - Kenz at 12 weeks (just because she was soooooo drop darn cute) - Kenz at 6 months - Kenz at 7 months working for Tash - Kenz at 11 months - (not bad for a first time with a called heel pattern EVER and the first time with anything longer then a few bits of doodling either).
-
Ptolomy also posted some videos of Cider who is only a baby dog learning her heelwork. There are a couple. I know if they are struggling to read your cues then break the turns down, do them in slow pace a step at a time and click and treat for holding position. Kenz likes to try and drive me so she got a lot of C/Ting in slow pace when she was in correct position when she was a real baby. I was working her tonight though and the penny has definitely dropped and she seems to be able to keep control of her position when fired up . Just got to work through her people scardy issues so I can get her into the ring.

Hmm I was playing this a bit tonight, pivoting on the spot and having the dog hold heel. I start by moving a small amount and having the dog heel. Extension of the line up game. Second part of this video sort of explains it - This one is another example - You can also do it for RATs - move a small amount in the other direction and C/T the dog for remaining in the correct heel position.
-
God LP I had to do a double take miss Zara looks so much like her mum .
-
Have you done much doodling on the spot, having the dog line up at heel?
-
In boxes with lids off on a shoe rack outside on the verandah.
-
Go Cider. I opted to just do doodling heelwork inside and concentrate on fronts and finishes and finding and holding heel. Will resume back to articles tomorrow when I can play back outside.

Think Ptolomy, RubyStar and Rivsky have all had an i-squeak die. Mine have been going strong for ages and no i-squeak deaths here.

I only entered my first Open trial because I foolishly sent a pile of entry forms over to a friend I was staying with so she could do enter my agility trials for me along with her dogs and she knew I was seriously procrastinating with the obedience so next thing I get an email saying oh and by the way your entered in the State Obedience Trials handed in your entry last night and no chickening out because I have paid for it . Well hmmmm that gentle prod led to a CDX title 3 trials and 3 weeks later .
-
Neh neh neh I have a tunnel - I could share if I was closer amypie and rubystar . If only a few certain companies would get back to me ;) .
-
Sounds good Dova. I need to do some training before I can have Kenz ready to trial so will have to wait for another trial later on in the year I think.

Kiesha your welcome to check mine out sometime.

Oh your so cruel Bully . You know you shouldn't tease the poor Pele like that just look at her she thinks the world has ended as it is.
-
Fantastic work with Ella - sounds good.
-
Kenz says never know how clever these BT's are when they are on a mission to find i-squeaks . Pele on a mission well just watch out .
-
Kenz is worried that Pele is looking for her squeaks!!!!!!
