We don't it usually just happens and all works out in the end SecretKei . -
Well done Barkly Blue and Luke - not sure our debut will end up that well but at least we should have fun I hope .
-
Hmmm sorry Ptolomy no spare $1.50 the physio is stealing all my money but I am sure you could just get the pilot to eject him and air drop him as you cross over SA - he would be welcome to come and live with me .
-
Adelaide Animal Hospital at Trinity Gardens would also get my recommendation SecretKei. http://www.adelaidevet.com.au/ ETA. Not sure if they are a 24 hour place or not though.

Thought I would just post something here - I mentioned to Steve about the lunch/food idea and he is going to forward my email addy to everybody on the mailing list so we can organise something. I am assuming predominately they are DOL members but Steve wasn't sure however if people want to give some thought to food for the day. Whether people prefer to all bring stuff to share or contribute money or a combination of both. I am thinking of trying to organise tea/coffee/cold drinks and possibly something for afternoon and morning tea (nothing fancy though) however I am not really a huge tea/coffee drinker so wouldn't have a clue where to start. Bully has said she has an urn somewhere for hot water. I am happy to start some tentative arrangments but if anybody wants to lend me a hand it would be appreciated. We usually seem to do a pretty good job over catering our DOL social functions and it all comes together in the end so I am hoping this won't be to complicated or difficult. So open to thoughts/ideas/suggestions on how to tackle this. I know its still a month away but time flies and I have a bit on my plate over the coming weeks so want to get onto it early rather than leaving it until the last minute. -
Nah I know I don't Tassie but old habits die hard and that is what I do with Ness .
-
Tassie well some of us bought an honorary membership by purchasing WA bred dogs . Although I think I was already accepted prior to my WA purchase she just confirmed my position . ETA. Tassie think you need to get yourself a pretty signature to show off that spunky WA boy of yours .

RubyStar if you want a 400 dog to run I'll send you pocket rocket - still not sure I have made the right decision re not jumping her at 500 but we will see. If she decides to spend the whole round biting/spinning or barking at me because she is frustrated she will get moved up to 500 for the next trial .

Kenz is pretty good as the sticky beaking goes. She is probably not sticky beaking as much as I make out but I know where her head position is the rest of the time and I know exactly where I want it on my RAT and its not there and nothing I have tried has got it there yet.
-
Hmmm I dunno I have had Ptolomy, Bedazzledx2 and the Sue guru all look at me in the past at various points when I have tried to fix the issue with Ness. Ness's is slightly different in that when we do a UD seekback and have to do the RAT and halt she is off with the fairies so misses the sit - some of the time. However I have see similairities with what Kenz is doing. I thought I had me right but now I really do wonder. We also have a few anticipation issues like to me saying yes to the judge as an acknowledgement that I am ready is Kenz's cue to get up. Eeeek she is very hyper sensitive to body language and I have to do a lot more proofing against that in all three positions but drops in particular. If people think video might help I could talk nicely to Rivsky on the weekend and see if she can video something for me at the agility trial.
-
To redirect this thread to where it should be I am after some training suggestions on a few things. Worked Kenz tonight and she did a lovely novice round but she is starting to fall into the same habit as her bigger sister with deciding RATs are for sticky beaking and not paying attention. We have done plenty of stationary turn work but its not translating into a ring situation. The rest of her work is really very very nice so I would like to somehow get on top of this before it develops into a big problem. I have to suspect I am partly to blame because Ness does it (to a much greater extent though) as well and I was never able to fix it.

Here you go RubyStar - my new solid jump - 400 height which is enough for my kids for training purposes and it fits in my car easily ;). I will paint the board white next weekend.
-
Tassie just tell yourself its a trip to go and meet Rory's relatives - not really about trialling.
-
Wahoo I am now the proud owner of a solid jump that actually looks like a solid jump .
-
Bedazzledx2 I just bought a 1TB LaCie Hard Drive for $190 a fortnight ago. Very reputable brand and suppose to be good quality.

I just wanted to post a fascinating observation from my weekend. I took both kids to the River for a swim this morning as we have done the past couple of days. Ness will fetch anything that is thrown into the river because they often leave them out there they only get sticks (and yep I know they are bad but its always what happens up here). With Ness you throw one and she brings it in and then you have to find another one to throw again. Any way Kenz was playing fetch in the river too. Unlike Ness though Kenz was fetching just the 1 stick and returning it to have it thrown again. Well once I threw it out there and she was distracted with a jet boat. Well about 5 minutes later she decides to jump in and go for a swim. She swims around a bit, gets to a reasonable large stick (bigger the better is usually the case) decides its not her stick, keeps swimming, comes across at least another 2 sticks but only returned with her stick . Maybe thats why she has taken to scent work so easily. It was fascinating to watch the decision making process while she was out there and the conscious decision to bring back the stick I had thrown in once she got to it but no attempt to grab any other stick.

Way to go RubyStar, Bedazzled and everybody on your obedience and agility success for this weekend. Fingers crossed I have something to post next weekend.
-
Bedazzledx2 - you know its about time you stopped taking that robotic version of that Aussie of yours that you have stashed away in the cupboard and actually started taking Brooklyn to trials . <Just stirring mate - Brooklyn would be one of Australia's best and most reliable trialling dogs and yep as dedazzledx2 said trained with food rewards>
-
Thanks for that response Ptolomy - I will be adding those to my list of things to play with with a certain dog who has decided locking into gloves is optional .

TSD - I was bored and the net was behaving itself - only running on satellite wireless connection here and OMG its like being in the dark ages again. You forgot how much easier broadband makes things - especially multi-tasking on the net. Have to say it looked a lot better then our first trial will be shortly. I intended on training this weekend but instead have let my two run feral and now I have less than a fortnight before Kenz has her agility debut and I have promptly broken her sit stay so heaven help me. Fast midget dog running 400 (she is use to training at 500) = disaster . Wonder how many times she will manage to head butt me around the course. Discovered this weekend that she likes to run and throw herself at my head - and thats just doing flatwork no jumps involved.
-
;) well hurry up its nearly bedtime RubyStar . ETA. And where was my text message I saw you posting to facebook with no mention of a brag about an hour or so ago.
-
Well done TSD - look forward to having a look at master Ziggy in action when I get back to my civilized internet connection on Tuesday . ETA. Couldn't wait until Tue so braved watching them on dial-up . Some lovely work there by Ziggy and your handling really wasn't as bad as you think. I know your only a green handler and Ziggy a novice dog but I just wanted to comment that to me there was a bit much of a conversation happening the entire way around the course. I guess it might be ok at the moment but I would try and run with less verbal good boys. Might just be a personal thing but I think they start zoning out your voice and when you get to running more complicated courses and the dog starts to become more obstacle focused then being able to redirect there attention with a well timed verbal command (like you did in the OJ course) can be a good tool to have. But like I said good work and well run. I certainly couldn't have got my novice dog through that OJ distance challenge so congratulations. She would have thought that other tunnel was way to tempting. I probably couldn't have got my masters dog through it either .
-
My two have a nice pairs HTM routines happening. Prior to getting Kenz whenever we had been doing pet expos and Piper had her girl there I'd often end up doing something with both Ness and Piper .

Removing double post.

If I had a reasonably large lab I would probably go for the 42" if you could fit it in the car. It would allow you have the dog in the there for a reasonable length of time with it being to cramped (like if you needed to crate the dog when your away or something). Guess it also depends what your intention is for the crate. If your talking short term confinement for shorter lengths of time such as going to training then you could possibly get away with a slightly smaller crate and go with the 36" one.
