RubyStar you could always come to Adelaide we have a few coming up .
-
I could possibly but not sure how much "work" I'd actually achieve. I have taken them in with me for an odd hour or so to pick something up or do some printing but a whole day :D :D .

about the nordic toyboy for Cider ;) . Happy Birthday Cider - where has 12 months gone.

about the NRM or in Ness's case tonight I think it was something like "oi you don't even think about it"

:D Rivsky so did Riv . I gotta hope I haven't used up all the "good" Ness by Saturday week so she still has some in her for the trial.

I gotta training talk brag . Caught up for an impromptu UD training session with Rivsky this evening - only decided on the spur of the moment. I wanted to do a seekback and directed jumping with Ness. Well we set the gear up and then spotted a huge pile of bread just near where the startpeg was. Knowing how foodie Ness is I thought it could pose a bit of an issue. As I sent her for her seekback she shot off towards where the bread was located at a million miles an hour and seriously thought about it but I interrupted her with a nope your working and she then went back to finding her seekback and absolutely nailed it and then nailed 2 directed jumps before being rewarded. Wahoo my Ness girl can work when there is food around :D . ETA. Tiggy I tend to get carried away and train agility if given half a chance but have been trying to be good and do more obedience training :D .

a certain WA guru once suggested to me something like 6 minutes and I have been well intentioned but it always seems to fade. I could never build it up that long. I think I have got about as far as 30 seconds with Ness .

Hmmm suppose slimy tug toys don't count bedazzledx2 . I have done raw chicken necks with Ness mind you.

just as well mine only seem to prefer sardines from a tin .

Yep have been doing that caffy. I also had a session with Rivsky at a park we don't normally train and we tried everything we could think of that might have been causing the issue and she nailed every single one of them. Thought maybe it was something to do with where the judge was standing as she came in. However even the judge on Saturday was wondering what on earth Ness was thinking given she has put us through most weeks more often then not at training - so its nothing I was doing and she wasn't standing anywhere different to normal. I thought we might have solved it but it appears not. Will do some more of what you suggested . Maybe we just need to keep at it some more. She doesn't normally stand with an article at training at least not that I can remember for a very long time. We were having article issues though so a thought that just occured to me while I typed out this response is I wonder if this is somehow all tied up in that. I use different commands and I know the picture looks different to the dog but maybe she is confused. Her articles were back on fire last night as well. We have a mock trial this coming weekend so my aim is to do as I would if it was a normal trial but have somebody standing outside the ring with my treats and then if she nails it to reward her that way.

kathq sorta except for that fact in the last three trials she has decided presenting her seekback is an optional extra and she just runs straight past me .

Back from the most awesome UD training session in ages. Ness hardly put a paw out of place - hmm in fact she was at best getting 1 point deductions for the exercises if that. And that bloody seekback present she muffed so badly on the weekend went off without a hitch and was seriously nice. Her DJ was beautiful, her articles all back and full of confidence, some lovely signals heelwork and a lovely glove. Now if only the little witch could get it together in a trial when it matters. But least I know she can do it . Just goes to show its not all over yet .

;) just as well I have a toy box full that are no longer used.
-
;) RS just tell her if she wants a handler for red kids for stays then you need to practice .
-
No fair Ptolomy - you won't need to go anywhere to train again ;) .

Interesting I spent lots of time proofing my high of arc entries before I went to adding to many poles. By the end I could stand at the far end of the 12 poles and send her in and she would nail the entries. Neat party trick not sure if she could still manage it at the moment mind you . I also found what worked nicely was to get started. I think we worked up to 6 poles from memory. I then gave the dog a break of about a month and then brought her back and did a refresh from the beginning. It gave me nice solid weavers which seemed to generalise well to other sets of poles and a behavior which seems to not break down if we don't train it for a little while.

Bloody DOL gremlins.

Good work on the weaving Ptolomy .

you could come for a show weekend here leopuppy I noticed a number of shows offering neutered class in the most recent Dogs SA journal.
-
just didn't want you to take it personally .
-
Yes but RubyStar I know you don't flog them in training either. I just don't get how people work there dogs into the ground before they go in and still expect the dog to give 100% in the ring.
-
I had the steward frazzled on the weekend after I pulled out after the first sendaway . But the judge agreed with me about there being no point in continuing.
-
Yep but there is doing a bit to warm the dog up and flogging them up and down for full routines. If the dog then came out and worked with focus in the ring that great but mostly I see the dogs switch off by the time they even so much as enter the ring. ETA. And often they are looking seriously disinterested and switched off outside anyway.

Ptolomy I have to laugh at the forgetting something and having to race back. I haven't done it in the ring but I did it when I went to do some training with Rivsky at the trial after we had finished in the ring. But it was only when I went to get my seekback out of my pocket that I realized I hadn't actually grabbed it out of my bag to start with - ooops .
-
Ptolomy I'll answer your question (even though you already know how much I do LOL). I have varied how much I do but mostly now I do absolutely nothing. At the trial this past weekend I went over to the ring about a minute or so before I was due to go in and then had a friend bring dog over. Called her into heel and rewarded once and in we went. Seemed to work for us. What I hate is seeing people flogging there dogs with lots of heelwork before they go in and then go in and expect them to keep working especially same of the baby ccd and novice dogs. No wonder they all start to switch off.
