I told myself second time around I'd just settle for a dog who had a contact behavior that was pretty reliable rather than Ness's hope you have prayed to the right gods this week version of a contact.

My two borders are dog snobs but I know when we went interstate and stayed with TerraNik and her lappie (and the lappie she was babysitting) Kenz had an absolute blast and they would run and play non stop . Ness and Jedi on the other hand just sat and watched the antics of the others.

Wahoo congratulations Brooklyn and bedazzedx2 .
-
MRB 2o2o is what Kenz did and what you were apparently talking about when we did our snooker run at training that night .
-
Oh yes accidental bites are very common - especially the more serious they are into the game.
-
Very cute Ptolomy and such a happy little baby .

Ok guys we had a pretty average UD session tonight and I am going to have to do some serious repair work - where the hell do you start. Do you pick an exercise and go back to scratch or what. I don't get it since a fortnight ago she did a lightening round and didn't put a paw out of place. Any UD gurus got some words of wisdom for me. We did get a lovely directed retrieve out of the night though.

Thanks for the congrats for Ness's run guys .

Not bad for a dog who is coming up for 10 in two months .

They don't always take the tooth out. I would see a specialist dental vet. Not sure what State your in. This link explains it a bit better. http://www.sydneypetdentistry.com.au/faq-v...oken-pet-tooth/

I thought I would post this as I was thinking through it tonight. My question is when you set your dog up at the start post in the ring or at training do you stand next to the peg with the dog on the other side or do you set yourself up with the dog next to the post. With Ness I always set her up next to the post mostly to keep her in straight and finds she sets up straighter that way. I am yet to decide what i will do with Kenz and thought I might find out what other people do and the reason for it.

2010 Training/title/goals Wish List
ness replied to Seita's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
As far as my goals go: Ness: Obedience - keep playing with her UD work and seeing if we can get some passes and as long as she continues to enjoy it we will continue to play Well we are playing with UD and she is still having fun and still putting together some half decent training rounds so we will continue to trial a little longer. Agility - that 1 more pesky ADO pass she needs for her title and then she can retire to just the occasional jumping class. Pesky ADO pass obtained last weekend at the States agility - big yee har Dances with Dogs - hmmmmmm now she has half a starters title I might have to travel somewhere and see if we can get the other half of her title. Have thought about this some more and possibly might find a trial towards the end of the year maybe. Kenzie: Obedience - keep playing with the exercises from all the classes, build confidence working around strangers - hopefully get her into the trial ring sometime in the middle of the year Not there yet but we will get there. She has the exercises but hasn't entered a trial yet and not sure what the time frame is on that yet Agility - start her trialling career, but need to do some serious work on contact training and jump work first Big tick - 2010 SA State Reserve Novice Jumping Champion - well that wasn't on the game plan but we have our first JD quallie and I am sure the rest aren't far behind. Her contacts are getting there but are still a work in progress. Dances with Dogs - hmmmmmm well now she got her freestyle starters title and also now has half a heelwork to music starters title so we might have to see about a comp somewhere, not sure where we will go to find one, maybe back to Sydney again. As per Ness - might try to find a comp to enter towards the end of the year Herding - fit some training in so we can try for a PT at some point Have done more training and she has improved out of sight and last time was very switched onto the sheep, still need more training before we can attempt a PT though but she has the ability -
Interesting Vickie - we ran a practice Novice Snooker round at club last night and I discovered (after discovering on the weekend that Ness only hits her contacts if I keep sprinting because I must only proof my contacts that way) that Kenz is somewhat similar. Kenz will drive into her 2o/2o so long as I keep running straight past the contact but the moment I slow up she isn't sure what she is suppose to be doing. She doesn't launch her contacts like Ness does but she doesn't drive into position either. So we have contact proofing on our list of things to work on and think I'll be going back to a target with her. Also have weaving with crooked poles after the weekend and last night. I guess one of the downsides of having base plated weavers to practice with at home is that she isn't use to weaving stick in the ground poles bent at funny angles and has a tendency to miss poles in the middle.
-
Ptolomy I did that game too except bugger me we did it with her breakfast bowl so bowl on the ground dog would look at me. Hmmmm we then had a few issues when I wanted her to look at the bowl so we could get started on directed retrieving and NOT offer eye contact. Not sure if I have screwed it the other way with Kenz though we did so much jump grid work/locking in on dead toys that she looks at the object and not at me .

Noooo Ptolomy it will be the start of the directed jumping problem - you are soooo wrong . And then somewhere while you have the directed jumping problem you will get a seekback problem .
