Way to go TerraNik, Abby and Jedi .
-
Think Brookie and Ness must be related bedazzledx2 - Ness is an obedience slut too . Anything for a bit of food!!!! She was even about to go home with my friend tonight .
-
Just back from a training session with a friend of mine this afternoon - I had to laugh at this whole working for other people discussion - Ness was throwing her best prancy heelwork when we had finished up and had let the dogs out for a run .
-
With a friend and small groups - no real value in training in a larger group but 3 or 4 could be useful to have people as distractions/figure 8 posts/call you through a round/video .

Tricky question that last one Ptolomy - I have heard suggestions that the dog should be able to go through whatever routine they are being expected to perform three times in a row with no drive or enthusiasm loss before fitness isn't considered to be a limiting factor.
-
yeah Ptolomy doesn't feed her kids only everybody elses :D . I have had the good fortune of working Ptolomy's kids and Bedazzledx2 Brookie and really treasured the experience it was just such good fun.
-
LOL they were rewarding her just not bribing her (difference LOL).
-
Yep I have let Ptolomy, Sue H and Gina all take Ness and she has done things that she has never managed for me . I still chuckle at the Sue H workshop when Sue borrowed Ness to demo heeling around food on the ground. Sure sure Sue Ness heel over the top of food - pull the other one. Any way hmmm bitch (Ness that is) did it easily and then didn't want to stop heeling :D. Same happened when I handed her to Gina during a training session over in WA - heelwork to die for and not a piece of food being used to bribe her to perform.

I am just going to pick on Seita's comment about fitness levels and post a question of my own - how do you guys maintain or improve the fitness levels of your dogs in preparation for competition.

I tried something a little different with Kenz at training last week. I normally just get her straight out of the car and go into the ring. Instead I took her out the moment I had finished with Ness in the ring and we played a little - maybe 2 or 3 minutes that was it. Then I popped her back in the car and got her out and took her straight into the ring. I think she could have used a little 30 seconds or so more settling time because I felt rushed but that seemed to work ok.

Happy Birthday Brookie .

RIP Shimi - sorry to hear that Tiggy . All the best with Pea though.
-
wonder who that would be ValleyCBR . We were both desparate enough that we had to get WA bred dogs to feel like we belonged .

Teaching Back End Awareness
ness replied to Mason_Gibbs's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I used something like a phone book and put it between me and the dog and encouraged the dog forward. The fact that it was large meant the dog naturally offered 2 paws on it. Once I got the behavior I was after I went to a smaller object. Tonight we faded down to a post it note size bit of paper :p . -
We are lucky a lot of the clubs here will send out full catalogues in advance of trials (both agility and obedience ). I tend to get there reasonably early because most of our grounds have limited parking close to the rings and I like to leave my girls in the car mostly and only crate a dog or two before we go in the ring. Well my older one. My younger one I will probably crate from when we get there when we start trialling because she settles in a crate.

Well done Xena, Inka and Gabby .

Stays and SFEs and definitely a motion for UD logbook style .
-
UD as a recall in the COP signals bit at the end - how is it any different . The other logic is that in Novice they are only baby green dogs and doesn't take much for them to get momentarily distracted when you leave them so it should be allowed. Just have to remember to suggest it at the next rule change . 99.9% of the time it won't be an issue but its just the 0.1% of time it would be nice to be able to use there name .
-
Although hang on RS - how is it any different to the recall in which you can use the dogs name . But nah I ended up posting on Ozobedience and I think the logic was that it was just sort of overlooked and maybe should be suggested for the next rule change .
-
Nah you can't and apparently there is no real logical reason .
-
Quick question before I go and have a look in the rule book - does anybody know if you may use your dogs name before giving a command in the novice COP drop exercise. I wouldn't normally do so but did at training the other night because the dog was looking elsewhere and I wondered if this is permissible at a trial.
-
I don't tend to get wide or lagging but crabbing is more Kenz's preferred style. Urgh its ugly .
-
Awww poor Jedi - nah don't think it would work that well on Kenz .
-
well done Jedi and TerraNik. I am looking forward to slightly warmer weather to hopefully sort my forging problem out .

to funny Ptolomy.
