I have had the opposite experience when my girl is in her "in training" harness. Nobody tries to pat her but they do normally stop me and ask what she is training for .
-
DT harness or Julius harness both make one that has an "in training" patch.
-
Friend just got a Go-Pro Harness for Christmas and she isn't particularly happy with the straps on it. Because they are only elastic they seem to stretch and move around quite a bit.

She sure did Ptolomy. Had me VERY well trained. Kenz didn't have that opportunity because I was wise to it from the start .

My gorgeous girls biggest claim to fame in the trial ring. Winning the Dogs SA Obedience Club Challenge trophy.

Yep that one and I think it was only one practice session not 2 and that was mostly us practising not them because it was some fairly warm day when we met up to practice. I should see if I can find what i did with the Advertiser photo I still do have it saved somewhere. Getting home form work tonight sucked .

LOL about the meander around comment - Ness is no doubt back to chasing jet boats though and barking at the garbage truck and postie (all activities which she loved when she was younger). I remember the freestyle pairs demo at the pet expo with Ness and Piper which we pulled off with bugger all practice and the times we spent on the Aussie dog stall. The time Dr Harry tried to get them to pose for a photo for the Advertiser and neither of them were overly keen to cooperate. Its definitely the end of an era when you think of all the good dogs that have now gone in the last couple of years. While Ness was never a top performing dog she did manage to succeeded in spite of me having to learn along with her. A first performance dog is always special everything she achieved was a first and represented a huge learning curve for me. She did manage to achieve her share of trophies and placings. She was also one of the first SA dogs to achieve Dances with Dogs pass. There are so many positive memories to hold and cherish and while it sure hurts like hell at the moment I hope with time it might get a little easier.

Ness doing what Ness always loved doing...

She sure did teach me a lot Ptolomy and miss Kenz was certainly a better dog for it. The house feels so empty without her and I keep expecting I will go into a room and find her curled asleep in her corner as she always has. Thanks guys for all your thoughts. It feels very empty here tonight despite Kenz having taken up her usual pride of place on my bed.

My Ness has gone. Run free my gorgeous girl. Forever in my heart. Life will never be the same without you. I am eternally grateful that we were able to have lots of special outings over the last fortnight and there will always be lots of memories to treasure. My first dog and my first performance dog who opened my eyes and my world to a whole lot of great friends. My introduction to the obedience world with a bang. A CD in three trials with three good passes and second on count back at your first trial which I had only entered to keep a friend company. A trip to Perth a few years later, 3 trials and a CDX title done and dusted. You turned your paw to everything we attempted and gave it your best. We managed to compete in just about everything, Agility, Jumping, Obedience, Rally, Dances with Dogs and Tracking. So long as there was food you would fly to the moon and then some. At rally novice title at 12 and then finishing your tracking dog title at 12 years 10 months. Not even a ruptured cruciate the day after your 13th birthday slowed you down for long. You were still to much dog for my parents where I had sent you to recover after surgery so back you came 4 months later ready and waiting. Nothing slowed you down even in the last year of your life. You came out and helped plot tracks for last years tracking season as you always did and tracking season will never be the same without your help. Even last week you were still having walks twice a day, lots of trips to the beach and wanting to stay involved. I knew your time was close and I am grateful you showed me so that I the "grandparents" were able to spend the last 2 days with you and my brother to whom you were originally bought was able to see you happy and without care in the world. I am thankful you took that final decision away from me and slipped away from life peacefully of your own accord. Thanks for the journey Ness and I am sure you will have lots of "friends" looking out for you at Rainbow Bridge. May there be lots of endless treats and places to go ferret for food.I am sure you have already made yourself at home and located all the "spare" treats. Goodbye my girl. May you rest in peace. I have friends in the Northern hemisphere who's dogs will still have episodes in the middle of winter in the snow. I know from my conversations with some of the vet practices down here its not as uncommon as you might expect. They are certainly aware of more cases of it. I got a similar picture when I was submitting blood for the study when they said I would be surprised at the number of Australian dogs who had submitted samples for affected dogs.
-
I think possibly but I can't remember how. I remember coming back from a walk and her having crashed and a friend on FB said she it sounds like BC collapse.
-
Kenz her had first episode around 13-14 months.

Gift card for Petstock? Petbarn? and online store for dog stuff?
-
Some dogs seem to be more preventable then others. I know with mine short of locking her up for the rest of her life and never doing anything again I can only just keep ahead of her having a serious episode. She still can tip the edge into a bad collapse even when I am super careful and watching for it.
-
Nope there is not test for the condition in BCs. There is a test for a similar condition in labs etc but its not the same gene as all the BCs have proven to be negative to the test. My girl had blood taken as part of the study and submitted.
-
Agree lots of dogs in the Northern Hemisphere still have issues with BC collapse even in winter. There is some correlation to the heat but greater correlation to humidity. I find in the real extreme heat Kenz does seem to cope better but then obviously we are doing much less (as any normal pet owner would be off their mind anyway to exercise dogs in extreme heat) and there is a natural inclination for the dog to be less fired up. ETA. I would certainly be asking breeders regarding the potential for dogs with BCC in their lines. While they don't have a test for the condition there is definitely evidence to suggest its genetically inherited. All breeders can do at this stage is to be aware and mindful of the condition.

Any Dol Sydneysiders Used Sydney Animal Physiotherapy

It wasn't really a debate from my perspective. Have just spent a lot of time talking to various rehab/specialists etc both within Australia and over in the US. My parents were keen with my old girl who was otherwise super active to avoid surgery but in the end after 2 weeks of her being miserable they agreed to go ahead with a lateral suture repair. Her knee is still strong over 12 months later. All the best with your decision. There is some interesting video produced by a rehab guru in the states where they used a stifle brace during rehab but that was only a partial tear. Happy to answer any questions or help with info. -

Labadore is the knee stable? My understanding is you could throw lots of money on rehab but if the knee isn't stable your better off having surgery done to stabilise things before undertaking rehab. If your not keen on the bone cutting surgery a lateral suture repair with suitable rehab can work well as well. -
I was actually quoted $2400-$2600 for the repair and $2600 was if they needed to cut bone. The specialist who did my girls repair actually moved to WA and not sure he might still be working at the Perth Veterinary Specialist.

I paid ~$2500 for an MPL surgery on my young BC. By stage 1 are the grade 1 MPLs?? My girl has bilateral grade 2 MPLs and we are not going ahead with surgery on the second leg and she isn't to bothered by it. Dogs can live quite comfortably with low grade MPL issues and not require surgery. I would ask the vet clinic where you might look at getting the surgery done for a price estimate. I know when my old girl needed cruciate surgery I did a ring around of the vet clinics to find out the price range for the procedure. MPL surgeries would have a fairly standard estimate range depending on what they need to do but enough to give you a ball park figure.
