ANKC rules mean you can't trial a bitch in season. The only exception as far as I am aware is in herding where they can be run at the end of a class. My own experience is limited to the fact Kenz went through one season and I didn't really notice a huge different in her. We still trained but she was only 8.5 months at the time. Worked the same as she was previously and continued working the same when she finished. The only thing I did notice is she went through super nervy patch a few months later (just before I ended up desexing her) but not sure if that was hormone related gearing to come back into season or just age related. ETA. Love the just like answering polls option.

Obedience Trialling A Blind Dog
ness replied to Romysaxon's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Depends on the judge but you wouldn't find you ran out of points just because the dog was crabbing/forging. 3-5 is what I had somebody tell me at some point but I suspect some judges will take more. I think in this circumstance I would be happy to take the point loss and its better then the alternative of losing the dog. You might also find anyway the dog does drop back a fraction into the ring and is no longer holding quite as strict contact and it balances out anyway and especially in the novice classes. ETA. Staranais I know there are dogs competing in NSW that are trained in the UK style heelwork (Powerpaws team - Steve Davies comes to mind) and wining classes so it can't be that considerable. -
OSS I know pity you can't just sit them down in front of a TV with a DVD or something. It may yet get worse - the ortho specialist's advice was 8 weeks strict crate rest with absolutely no exercise but both the chiro vet and the physio thought the occasional short leash walks (15 min a couple of times a day) would be ok. There concern is if I crate her solid - a. she will go totally stir crazy but b. will start go develop muscle wastage when at present she has very little if any on that shoulder and also that rest alone won't heal the ligament damage anyway so keeping the muscle tone becomes important to keep the shoulder functioning anyway. Confusing but so long as she is allowed short walks she seems to be coping ok with the crating the majority of the time - well for the moment. And vain me is just worried how much hair they will shave off on Wed for the US .

Unsure What Is Wrong With My Girl.

Yeah I think if it was mine I'd try the Advocate and see if it helps. Despite only treating the spot with the wash Ness only has had 2 more outbreaks in her 11 years but I certainly use Advocate now when I see a bald patch. She normally only needs 1 or 2 months of that and she is fine again. -
Your two look adorable in their new beds RS. Thanks for the best wishes for Kenz and good to hear Ruby is doing better. Kenz is not really any better, if a little worse in fact - long wait till Wed so we can hopefully have a better picture of what is going on. At least her physio is a little more optimistic that she will eventually be able to return to doing obedience and hopefully agility (although probably not for this season). So for now the best we can do is avoid letting her race around like a lunatic and sit tight and wait. Doesn't make it very easy when she wakes up totally feral and wants to do zoomies either .

WA - a really quick/cheap suggestion would be to go to a shop like Cheap as Chips - pick up a cheapie lead and cut it at an appropriate length. Its not something you will need to use forever and that way you can cut it at a length you want. Saves paying postage to. I have also in the past used old leads cut to length - I seemed to gather a few BC chewed off ones .

Way to go TSD and Ziggy .

Just used it on the patch on her face. The stuff we got we were told to dilute in water and then apply using a cotton bud to the bald patch. -

My older BC had a patch of hair loss above her eye around 14 months and at the time we used the demodex wash stuff because that is what was suggested. She has had a few outbreaks here and there over the years and now I just use a couple of treatments of Advocate and it seems to resolve it. -
Kenz sends her best wishes to Ruby and can fully sympathize with the whole crating aspect. She is just one lucky BC that I am around to supervise and she has not yet been placed onto full crate restrictions. She certainly would be if I wasn't home. And for her its only just the beginning - we still have at least another 6 weeks of this .

Sue Hogben Seminar - Albury
ness replied to The Spotted Devil's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Oooh exciting TSD - make sure you say hi to Sue from me . -
Why is it that when you teach something new you always manage to break something else - I now have a verbal drop to stand but have broken my drop to sit so back to the drawing board I go. That will teach me to play around with UDX .

Murray Tyler made mine they were I think from memory $240. http://www.aussieagility.com.au/equipment.htm

Just finished watching the video RV - I was stalking youtube anyway ;). If you want to try and encourage closer fronts have you tried tossing the treat and having him run between your legs. Ness went through a stage of fronting out a little closer then I would have liked so I went to throwing the treat between my legs. His rear end awareness stuff looks good I thought - well done.

Problem Seita - Kenz has already been trained do a million and one random DWD things . Was off looking through blogs to find an example of targeting heelwork for the other thread and came up with the idea of teaching her names of toys - least it should be something she can do relatively still without moving to much. So might start on that.
-
So ok guys - not strictly training but since my midget trialling dog is on at least a minimum of 4 weeks and possibly 8 weeks "rest" for a shoulder ligament injury anybody got any suggestions on keeping her amused when she isn't suppose to be doing much if anything. So far tonight we have worked on stationary heel position . And she has now learned that "head" means get your head off the position where you would desperately like it to be wrapped across my leg and please assume a position which won't get you pinged in the ring . We are also working on targeting to try and address the issue. Any other ideas?

Recommendations For A Pet Transport Company?
ness replied to Zug Zug's topic in General Dog Discussion
Pretty sure Kenz came across via Dogtainers from Perth to Adelaide. Her breeder organised it but no hassles. -
Registered name RubyStar .

Ask Ptolomy she came up with reasonable list for me when I got Kenz .

Obedience Trialling A Blind Dog
ness replied to Romysaxon's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
bedazzledx2 is a judge so I am sure she knows what she is talking about poodlefan. I know bumping/crowding is penalised but what bedazzledx2 suggested is teaching a consistent position. Targetting a position isn't physical guidance - they mean actually manhandling the dog as far as I am aware - taking the dog by the collar in between exercise for instance. -

Yeah my first thought was teach a targeting type behavior too. Should be doable with a weim to have them target a position on your body and remain in contact with that position. -
Wuffles people seem to not make much of an effort in the trial ring here - not even at the Royal . I think sneakers and jeans are fine for a normal trial. i think I still look reasonably neat and presentable and that is what I normally wear.
-
or do what the rest of us do and wear sneakers.

Here are a couple of PT rounds - its Piper's girl Jazz

Kenz sucked at the concept of transitioning RV so I went to using a lower phonebook and then a single sheet of paper . Seemed to do the trick.
