Another Joint Supplement: Rose-hip Vital Canine
CavsRcute replied to ness's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Just bumping this to ask a question re dosage. My girl is 15 kgs. How many capsules or powder would she need? It seems like a lot of capsules are needed while the powder seems a little more economical depending on the dosage TIA -
Undiagnosed Lameness - Getting Desperate
CavsRcute replied to Bluebell's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My girl gets front end lameness from really bad trigger points which in turn are caused by her hip dysplasia. She has acupuncture and trigger point therapy. The trigger points can be very difficult to find by an untrained person. I can find my girls' by pressing on the spot and the skin quivers. I found that anti inflammatories, cartrophen, metacam etc were of no use, as it was muscular and not joint pain. Good luck! It can be frustrating trying to find an answer -
Strange Collection Of Syptoms....or Nothing?
CavsRcute replied to ktig's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
When my girl licks at her front paws it means she has pain in her joints. She suffers from HD and because of this she has a funny gait. This then puts pressure on her front legs.. I take her to trigger point therapy and she is right for about 3 months. A couple of months ago she was doing these strange things when she was asleep...jumping up and looking behind her in concern. I checked her anal glands, wormed her and de fleaed . Still no better. Somebody on her suggested she was having a spasm in her back leg. Took her to the muscle man and sure enough she had a bad trigger point. I would suggest you find a good canine chiropractor or physiotherapist, or trigger point therapy. They show pain in different ways and my girl sleeps a lot when she has the bad trigger points and licks her paws also. He may be trying to relieve a spasm etc when he is leaning up against something -
I use Scotty's ProPeak. My girl has it twice a week when I work and someone else feeds her. Absolutely loves... I call it her take away food. As a treat.

Crystals In Urine Plus Sensitivity To Food.
CavsRcute replied to will_454's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If she won't take the cranberry powder, try the tablets. My girl was prone to constant UTI's and had struvite crystals with a high PH level. After 2 weeks on the cranberry tablets , everything had reverted to normal. It is now 3 years and she hasn't had a recurrence Can't help with the food situation, although my girl is very sensitive to chicken and can only tolerate red meat- both fresh and dry -
The Kumalong harness has been really helpful for us. My girl can't be walked on a collar due to a throat problem and this is the first harness where she doesn't stop still in the middle of the road :D
-
The physio that helped me with my dog, ordered us a special harness to help with her hip dysplasia etc. She works out of ARH, Strathfield. Might be worthwhile contacting her. Her name is Helen Nicholson

This is what I do also, for my Cavalier
-
I feed my Cavalier at 6pm and then we go for a walk the nect morning any time between 6 and 8am. She also has a stroll about 8pm in Summer, when it is cooler. In winter we go for her second walk about 5pm, and have never had any problems

Took my girl to the trigger point vet last night and she had 3 very sore points in her right hind leg, one in her left hind and one in the left front. This is the most she has had in years. The vet thinks that they were so bad because her activity level has been a lot less recently. This is because I had knee surgery and we haven't been walking as far and the heat has knocked her about. She has been 100% better since last night Thank goodness we have access to this vet
-
She has been much better today , more settled but I am still taking her to the vet tomorrow for her trigger point therapy as she is sore in the back .
-
Have just come home from the vet and she thinks it is a muscle spasm. My girl has HD and gets really bad trigger points but usually in the front but as soon as the vet felt her back r leg, she flinched and it was obviously very sore. I feel like a goose that I didn't think of that earlier. At the moment she is lying on my bed with a heat pack on the leg and snoring her head off :D She has an appointment with the torturer on Monday arvo( the first one we could get). :) He has a big day for trigger point therapy, Thanks for your ideas
-
Thanks for the thought but no bones of any sort
-
I de fleaed her about 6pm tonight. I also thought she might have some sort of pulled muscle or some sort of spasm. Anal glands weren't infected but maybe a bit of a tear. I put some cream around her anus... The things we do! If the vet can't find anything tomorrow, I will make an appointment with her physio. Thanks for the ideas.

I am taking my girl to the vet in the morning but was wondering whether anyone would have any ideas about what could be going on with her. About 5 days ago she started to sit down very quickly as tho something was biting her. Took her to have her anal glands expressed. Next day she was still doing this but when she was asleep she would jump up very quickly and then run with her bottom end curved around to one side. I have wormed and deflead her Today it is happening more often and she is very unsettled. Is eating and drinking well and her colour is good TIA

I have a Cavalier who had been fed chicken for a number of months. She then developed yellow foamy poos. She was fed about 6pm and she would want to go out about 2am and maybe a couple of times after that. I took her off all dry(which was chicken based) and the fresh chicken, gave her Protexin, and cooked white fish and potato. I did this for a week and everything was ok. Somebody foolishly gave her some chicken and it started all over again Back to the same diet and all was good. Then slowly changed her over to beef and lamb BARF patties and a lamb based dry food. This was about 9 years ago and she has been fine ever since. Good luck. It can be frustrating

I have one of the knock off's and has been really worth while but I only have a Cavalier :)

Dog Chiropractor/muscle Man In Sydney

Did u want a chiropractor or physio? There is a vet at Mona Vale who is a trained chiro. Can't remember her name but I took my Cavalier there and was quite impressed. I'm having a blonde moment ...I think it is Mona vale vet clinic in Park ave. I can find the details when I go home. My other suggestion is Helen Nicholson who is a canine physio and I would highly recommend her. She does have others who work with her also. She practices at ARF, Strathfield, SASH, North Ryder and a few other places -

Rear End Awareness Training
CavsRcute replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We used old broom handles of different lengths and thicknesses and place the in a line , like a ladder, but different widths apart. I made a wobble board with a square of ply , stuck onto a big knob type handle and covered on the top with that meshy type material to stop slipping, Also put metal fishing weights in felt and velcroed them around her ankles -
Definitely see a qualified canine physio Or chiropractor. She may have sore trigger points which never show up on x ray and aren't helped by anti inflammatories. My girl would also limp on her front leg when she first stood up . Finally after many $'s the physio found that she had hip dysplasia and because she was compensating for her dicky hips, she developed trigger points in her front leg. She now has acupuncture every month and trigger point therapy every 3 months. She is now nearly 10 and has only lasted this long because of that treatment. She also has Traumeel, which is a homeopathic anti inflammatory. Agree that she is shedding because she is in pain. Good luck. It's incredibly frustrating
-
She'll be right with you for the weight loss :D
-
I use Traumeel for Lani. It's a homeopathic anti inflammatory and appears to be good for her. Maybe even book an appointment or phone Helen Nicholson the canine physio. She is very knowledgable and helpful. Has the dog had any X-rays? If so she would be interested in them Let me know if you need her number A chiropractic vet also told me that evening primrose oil was good for anything to do with bones Good luck
