  1. This may sound silly but my Cavalier used to get restless and wouldn't sit or lie down properly when her anal glands were full. Once they were expressed, she was fine.
  2. Random thought....could it be something like reflux??? My girl used to always get it when she was asleep and would then rush out and gobble a whole heap of grass.
  3. I think reflux might be the problem. When I went downstairs earlier today, I noticed a big grass and other greenery throw up where he'd been licking. Unfortunately, I think he's given it to me :D . A long time ago I was diagnosed with chronic reflux oesophagitis after every test known to man for heart problems, a doctor sent me for an endoscopy . I was on losec for some years and it eventually "went away". I think it has come back with a vengeance. Anyway, if he experienced anything like I am at the moment, a trip to the vet will be a priority. He has had a dental recently and while I don't think he is suffering from dementia, he is exhibiting some effects of old age and increasing stubbornness. I'm also on Losec for oesophagitis :)
  4. I think this has just started happening to my girl and I'm off to the vet this week, she's a 13 yr old Jack Russell who's been in great health but over Christmas started doing what you describe and bringing up small amounts of food and sometimes large piles of grass. I'd been given some different treats for Christmas and stopped giving them to her in case that had been the cause. She's fine some days but not others so off to the vet we go ... I've often wondered why all the licking - I've got a couple of oldies that do this to my sofa - making it quite damp - and thought it might be a bit of dementia possibly as they are in good health otherwise and have had recent dentals. Yes, it wouldn't happen every day but I could never pin it down to any particular food, so we went with the medication and it certainly helped.
  5. My girl used to poke her tongue in and out and swallow . She would then rush outside and eat grass. This often happened when she had been sound asleep. Took her to the vet and she had reflux. Started on Losec which is a human medication and was much more comfortable :)
  6. This happened to my girl. I then gave her a cranberry tablet every day and when tested 2 weeks later, everything was back to normal
  7. I saw one similar a few days ago. I thought it was a baby pram, at first. But thro' the mesh, a dog was sitting up, enjoying the ride. People used to look in the pram and get a surprise when they saw a dog Mine is also collapsible and is very roomy
  8. I bought a dog pram from eBay that is a three wheeler , like the jogging prams. It has mesh so the dog can see out but is enclosed Pull down cover to stop the sun on their heads and room for poo bags and a parcel tray underneath. Has a clip that you can attach their lead to.Very easy to manoeuvre. It says on the pram that it is a Starpaws design pet jogger I made a sign and tied it to the front of the pram. My Cavalier loved it and sat up like a Queen :) it was our saving grace as it meant we could still get out.
  9. I use Angus Martin at Hornsby Vet . I wouldn't go anywhere else and as a bonus he does acupuncture! I have referred lots of my friends there and all have been very happy.
  10. My girl also has them but had a new checked one at the vet and he said all ok but if it suddenly got bigger it would need to be tested.
  11. For the trigger point therapy or acupuncture at Gladesville Vet, you don't need a referral but when you ring to make an appointment tell them it's for trigger point etc and they will allow more time. If you can get a video to show them it makes it easier
  12. I take my Cavalier to see Helen Nicholson who is a canine physio. She is the one who picked up that she had HD after many vet visits Mark hocking and Pam Short at Gladesville Vet for trigger point therapy and acupuncture and Angus at hornsby vet for acupuncture. My girl was also having weird lameness in her front left leg which was caused by her HD. Good luck. It can be a frustrating journey. Feel free to PM if you need more info
  13. Just a thought...when my Cavalier was on cortisone, it actually made her worse. She was continually panting, and became very restless and wild eyed. I could only leave her on it for 2 days. All my good wishes that Joey improves
  14. Can't can wrong with advice from Helen :)
  15. I tried it for my Cavalier who has hip dysplasia but found it toocumbersome for her. I think they may be better for larger dogs. They need to be fitted properly and Helen Nicholson, the canine physio did this for us and also ordered it.
  16. I think Helen is great. My girl has HD and whenever she has a problem I take her to see Helen for a "tune up" and she comes good. Would highly recommend her :)
  17. I have had my girl on it for about a week and have to say I think it is great for her. She is now wanting to walk for longer, and has more energy. I think she is feeling much brighter as she is not in as much pain. Maybe your boy was feeling much better because his pain relief was better and this was his way of showing it.
  18. Dogmad, I have a friend who has a puppy that is only about 16 weeks old. She has had some serious family problems, and this has exacerbated her own health problems. She has had trouble toilet training the puppy and doesn't have the capacity to even clean up after the puppy or the energy to follow through on the training. It is now being boarded at the vet which brings it's own set of problems plus the expense. And she is heartbroken I was wondering whether the RSPCA would be able to assist in this situation?
  19. It's probably got nothing to do with Ziggy's problem but girl does this when her reflux is bothering her. She can be lying there asleep and then she will jump up and rush outside and frantically start any large amounts of grass. She has also vomited a couple of times because she was scoffing the grass and it tickled her tonsils! Hope Ziggy is feeling better
  20. I use a Kum-a-long harness. It's the only harness I can use on my girl, due to her throat issues. It is front attaching. It's made from the same stuff that are used in fabric type leads. Have never had any welts etc
  21. I have a dog that is quite obviously a Cavalier but the "trainer" at St Ives kept calling her a Cocker Spaniel. Then he called us into the middle of the circle and trod on her foot without a sorry or pat for the dog. They cannot keep an eye on every dog as the classes are too big and there were lots of fights. You might be lucky and get a trainer who is on the ball but hard to guarantee.
  22. Northern suburbs at St Ives have fairly large classes and a lot of dogs in one area. There is a class at Rofe Park, Hornsby Heights on Sunday afternoon, I think. I found the Teen classes with Get Smart( I think) very good. They only have about 6 dogs in the class and use clickers. They are at St Ives show ground as well. Will try and find their contact details
