  1. Just wondering whether anyone would know if there are any clubs etc who run Rally O classes. Preferably on the north side of Sydney.
  2. My Cavalier only barks when it's a full moon  And then it's a howl!
  3. My Cavalier did the same thing when she was a puppy. It wasn't a growl, it was more like a mumble and she never snapped. It wasn't a dominance thing with her-she just didn't want to be confined on my lap.She would rather be off running and playing. I put her down when she stopped wriggling and praised and treated. She loves to be patted and sit next to you on the lounge but still doesn't like to nursed. And she is now the most laid back Cavalier I have ever seen but also very independent
  4. I use the Black Dog one for my Cavalier who is very hairy and it is great.
  5. Trigger point therapy and acupuncture has worked wonders for my Cavalier. After spending thousands of dollars and vets looking for anything from OCD to polyarthropy, she was found to have very tight knots in her muscles. They use a TENS machine(like physios use for people) and you can actually see the muscles twitching. We do exercises every night. She also has HD and we use acupuncture for this which also helps with the trigger points. She also has a homeopathic tablet called Traumeel, which is also a miracle worker. It is an natural anti-inflammatory Good luck
  6. I give my Cavalier the Eagle Pack Holistic Lamb and Oatmeal or the Natural which is also Lamb based. She was having the yellow foamy poos from chicken and the 12.30 am vomits from turkey. She is doing very well on these. The pet shop has also just given me a sample of Holistic Anchovy,Sardine and Salmon with Oatmeal...so we'll see how that goes. It doesn't look as though it has any chicken fat at all-although I may need to get my glasses to see the ingredients better LOL. There are also treats called Ziwi that are lamb based or venison. Expensive but good. PM if you need any other info.
  7. My Cavalier was diagnosed with HD at 2 but looking back I'm sure it was there earlier. We do lots of different things 1. Liquid glucosamine 2. Cartrophen injections for arthritis 3.Mainly raw diet 4. Acupuncture treatments 5. Canine physio for exercises 6. Chiropractor when her back gets sore 7. Trigger point therapy 8. Walking in the soft sand and gentle swimming when we can If you have any questions, ask away, as I have been there and done that
  8. I would agree with Fido regarding the chicken. I have had 2 Cavaliers. With the first one, she was a rescue and had yellow, foamy, mucoucy poos which didn't improve when on chicken and rice so she went onto lamb and pumpkin and rice, with protexin added and she was fine. I also used physillium husks(like metamucil but cheaper) and this was also a help. My puppy also developed the same sensitivity and she is on a raw lamb and vege mix, with lamb necks and Eagle Pack Lamb and Oatmeal dry food. Interestingly, she can tolerate turkey necks smashed into pieces. Occassionally she will get into something she's not supposed and then I give her a slippery elm tablet ans is as good as gold. Good luck....it's a very frustrating process to get it all sorted
  9. I have a Cavalier who has HD and I know when she has pain as she goes very quiet. She will still do the normal eating and pooing, weeing etc but she sleeps a lot and becomes a little remote., and snores mor deeplyShe doesn't limp or anything, but she walks slowly and tentatively. The best thing is rest and maybe some heat, and she then goes to the chiro or acupuncturist. The vet would probably give you anti-inflammatories but sometimes this can mask the real problem. Good luck
  10. Good to hear that he was able to help your dogs
  11. I must have a dog with a weird sense of taste. After she has her breakfast, she goes and sits on her mat and waits for me to squirt the Flexicose into her mouth
  12. I use the Flexicose for my Cavalier who has HD. We were using the human one, but I clicked the one pets when I reordered and there is no difference. The main thing that I was told with these products is that it ? rebuilds the fluid between the cartlidge and keeps the joints moving. So maybe if your girl is 6 and doing agility, it would be of benefit. They say that the liquid is more easily absorbed and I find that it doesn't upset her tummy like the human pawder and tablets.
  13. It's Animal Physiotherapy Services Her email is [email protected]. Phone number is 4774 9756. You normally need to leave a message and she'll get back to you. I have seen her at The Animal Referral Hospital at Strathfield and also at North Turramurra. I think if you look on her website, it lists all her contacts Cheers
  14. I think the physio you are talking about is Helen Nicholson. I also have her number if you need. She also goes to Strathfield, Penrith and the North Shore. Having a dog with HD, I can tell you about physios, chiros and acupuncturists
  15. Got it! His phone number is 47748491 and he's out past Wallacia. if you have trouble with directions, a friend has said you can call her and she will tell you where he is.
  16. I'll try and get them for you today. I'll ring around a couple of friends.
  17. Gary Barnsley, who does a lot of work on greyhounds. He's out west somewhere...not much help but i can find out if you need his contact details
  18. My girl is going really well and I hope that she has a long and happy life :D If I find that she pulls up a bit stiff after being a loony, I will take her for acupuncture and she's fine.Surgery may be an option in the future but I'm not rushing into anything while she's OK. I would definitley go and get a second opinion, with a specialist. If you are in Sydney, I can recommend someone. Cheers Ooops...just seen that you're in Perth
  19. I have a small breed dog who was diagnosed last July when she was 2. Every day she has liquid glucosamine and chondroitin, as this is supposed to be more readily absorbed, fish oil capsule, kept lean as possible and swimming. She also has a series of Cartrophen every 6 months and also acpuncture every 2-3 weeks. On top of this we do exercises every day, as her trigger points were very tight. i don't know which treatment is working but something is as she no longer bum wobbles or buuny hops as much. Good luck
  20. I also went thru this when my girl was about a year old. It got to the stage that they it was polyarthrpothy(?sp) which is an autoimmune arthritis. All it turned out to be was that she had very loose shoulder ligaments and tendons. We were referred to an animal physio for exercises to strengthen the area and she was back to normal until we discovered that she had HD as well But she's doing OK at the moment. Edt: This all started just before she was one.
  21. Cleo, have you been to the vet to check whether it is anal glands? They are used to doing them all the time, so I wouldn't worry about that :p I found that once i introduced bones to my older Cav( she was a rescue and a "breeding machine"), her anal glands only had to be expressed once in the next 5 years. My cav girl that I have now has always had bones and she has only had them expressed once and that was after a bout of food intolerance, with soft poos. I will do almost anything for my dog but expressing anal glands is where I draw the line :D
  22. In a word, YES. The smell from anal glands that need expressing is foul, and can clear a room, especially if they are leaking. I'm speaking from experience :p
  23. Have you thought about acupuncture? It has been really helpful for my dog with HD.
  24. We are trialling a new product called Benelox, which is mainly ? marine oil, and this appears to be working well. I also find that acupuncture will be of help, too
  25. Just as well she is beautiful, loving and intelligent, or she'd be out the door-only kidding ;)
