  1. I also use a liquid glucosamine called Flexicose, which I used to bring in from the States and then it got quarantined. I now but it in Sydney. It's a little more expensive but at least I know I'm going to get it
  2. I get both Traumeel and Sylvet from the vet but i think there are some sites that you can order from on-line. If you do a search on these forums you may find some more info.Traumeel is also used for humans. Good luck
  3. Have you tried Traumeel which is a natural anti-inflammatory? Also there is a tablet called Sylvet which is very similar to Cartrophen
  4. That's one of the things that they thought my dog had but it wasn't. One specialist thought it was ED, even though it didn't show anything on x-ray, and another thought it was ?polyarthropy. Thank heavens it was only the tight trigger points Good luck and keep us posted. I will be really interested to know what the diagnosis is. The anti-inflammatories did nothing for her as it wasn't in the joints.
  5. Loose shoulder muscles was one of the diagnosis I got after spending thousands on x rays and specialists etc. Went to a canine physio for exercises which helped and then went to a vet who does trigger point therapy. Worked wonders and now we go about every three months for a "tune up"
  6. If you read the recent thread about Traumeel, from MellG, you may find some answers or you could PM me. Tight trigger points never stopped my dog from running eitherLOL Cheers
  7. My girl has a Traumeel tablet every day for her HD, and also works a treat LOL . As well as monthly acupuncture. I think Mell G's is on the right track now. It's one that we went down 18 months ago.
  8. Hi Mell, Just wondering how you got on with any of the acupuncturists etc. Cheers
  9. My Cav just pulled more when I put her in a harness. I put her in a martingdale collar and used the" tree method" and she settled really well
  10. Decide what you want to feed and don't chop and change. Speaking from experience here LOL My Cav had me very well trained and took about 6 months before i got the message. Leave the food down for 15-20 minutes and then take it away. I thought I was starving her after I did this for 2 days but she soon got the message. Make sure she has water. My vet told me she would be fine for 5 days without food so long as she was drinking. Good luck
  11. I know 2 acupuncturists, both who are vets. I had the same problem when my Cava was about a year old. Final diagnosis was tight trigger points. There is Gladesville Animal Hospital and you could see either Pam Short or Mark Hocking(who does more with trigger points) or Amanda Paul at North Turramurra. This is where I got my Traumeel. It's quite diffuclt to get. Got to rush now but if you need further info PM me.Been there and done it all  Cheers There is also All Natural Vets at Russell Lea
  12. There is a lady at Hornsby Heights called Jenny Eade Dog grooming ph: 9476 6200. I have never used her but heard she is good. There is also Designer Dogs in Waitara ph:9487 4267. I use Pawfect Pets in St Ives, for my Cavalier, and i find her great.ph: 9449 5782 There is a lady called Pamela Tilbrook, who is mobile and i think she is from Thornleigh
  13. You can also get a form of Cartrophen in tablet form called Sylvet. You give the dog one tablet/week. It's alittle expensive initially but works out OK in the long term. Good luck. I also give Traumeel, a homeopathic anti-inflammatory.
  14. I find if i give my cav anything with even a hint of chicken or turkey she will have the hot yellow, foamy poos She does really well on lamb and vegies and a bit of Eaglepak lamb and oatmeal. If she does get a bug i give her fish and potato and some slippery elm and she's as right as rain
  15. I am in Sydney and my vet made enquiries for me about titre testing. There are 2 companies she found. From memory one is in WA and the other is ?. I will try and find out again where it is. I think she said it was about $150.00 for the test. I will be getting my 4 year old Cav titre tested next time. She also offered me the 3 year injection, which I have never been offered before
  16. That sounds like my old Cocker who had a stroke many years ago. We had her for a couple of years more and when feeding her we used to elevate her feed bowl. The other thing it may be is something to do with ?the inner ear. A firend's ol Pulli had this and came good with ? antibiotics but still had a slight head tilt. Probably not much help but anything is worth a try. Good luck

    Barking

Maybe have a look at the "Pig in Mud" doggy doors.
  18. The same thing happened to my Cav after she had a turkey bone. so now I only give her lamb necks. She had antibiotics and was on a very bland diet of fish and potato, and picked up very quickly.
  19. My ideal class for a pet owner would be.... - to learn the basics for good manners eg sit, stay, come etc - then to be able to use the commands in a fun way to reinforce it all eg tricks, games, doggy dancing - to have a series of ? 4 lessons when you would do rally o or mini agility, to give owners an idea of what can be done with their dogs. -classes that are not an hour long. Maybe 45 minutes -instructors that have good communication skills and maybe more recent training I have been to 4 different clubs. The first 2 were for an hour long and concentrated on heeling for 45 mins, and as I lost interest so did my dog. At one of the clubs the first 2 instructors allowed the use of food, and the third one didn't. So, I think consistency between instructors is necessary. The fourth one was great..used clickers, food etc and as i have a cavalier who would sell her soul for food, they worked really well About every 15 minutes or so there would be a short break and you could practice a trick etc. They were only very small classes but you had to pay in advance and due to illness I missed quite a few. I know i am probably looking for the impossible but I'll keep looking. I may have found a trickNtreat class that runs for 4 weeks, so we'll see how we go
  20. cavNrott, I think it was the fact that I didn't like him that helped me to make the decision to go elsewhere, even though they are only 2 minutes from where I live. I don't think he liked women, as he wouldn't answer my questions and would only talk to a male friend I had with me. He didn't even exam my dog, just went on what my general vet had said and had a quick look at the x-rays, which didn't show any problem with the elbow That's why we go natural when possible
  21. The specialist I saw said my dog had elbow dysplasia but it turned out to be tight trigger points in her shoulder. Just as well I didn't like him and went to another specialist. The first one wanted to schedule surgery for the next day Traumeel is good for HD and quite economical
  22. I think sometimes it would take more than a few sessions of acupuncture. I have a dog with HD who has a session once a month but when we first started she was going weekly. And some weeks were good and then she would go backwards. I have also found that trigger point therapy is very useful. She also has Traumeel which is a homeopathic anti-inflammatory amd liquid glucosamine. This all started with a sore shoulder and thousands of dollars later it was discovered it was tight trigger points. Could this be referred pain in his back end from somewhere else?My girl never groaned or yelped either If you live in Sydney, I can give you the name of the vet that I use. Good luck...it's heartbreaking to see the look of pain in their eyes. You don't come across as selfish. You are trying to do the best for your dog.
  23. Thanks for that website info, Staff'n'Toller. I wish we had something like that here. I might print it out and send to a few clubs although I don't like my chances. I live on the North Shore in Sydney and have tried 3 clubs. I really liked PPP but timing was a bit difficult
  24. Maybe I should approach a couple of clubs with the idea. But many of the clubs around here are only interested in those who want to trial. At the last class we went to they spent 45 mins heeling and doing turns. I was bored and the 4 legged one wanted to go and chase the ducks. This was a beginner class and the instructor didn't like you to use food...that didn't work for us as I have a Cavalier and she would sell her mother for treats ;) Cheers
  25. Thanks Helen. Even though they are a fair distance away, I was interested in going and contacted them. But they have the age old problem of not enough instructors. They will be reviewing it in February.
