If you can find a vet that does acupuncture, I find that this is good for arthrits. I also use Traumeel which is a homeopathic anti inflammatory and Flexicose which is a liquid glucosamine and condroitin. My dog has also just completed a course of the Cartorphen. I usually start this a couple of months before winter and give her a monthly injection during the colder months

I had a similar problem about 5 years ago. The vet gave me chlorhexidine to wash the dog in twice a week. It's the stuff that surgeons used to wash their hands with before operating. It's pink in colour and worked a treat

Luxating Patella & Hip Displasia?
CavsRcute replied to libbylewis's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Libby, that's the other thing that was interesting....Everything that goes wrong with Lani is down her right side. Her right hip and patella are dodgy, if she gets a sore ear it's on the right side. and if her back gets sore it's also on the right side. You can really notice it when she does an exercise that involves me lifting her left leg and she has to balance on her right. It is very hard to get the left leg to lift off the ground as she finds it hard to balance on the right. The funny thing is I first noticed all of this because she was lame on her left front leg. It was the physio that suggested that she might have HD after spending thousands of dollars to find out why she was limping on the front. I will give her a hug when she wakes up and I hope you find an answer for Larry. There's something about spaniels -
Luxating Patella & Hip Displasia?
CavsRcute replied to libbylewis's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My girl also has bilateral hip dysplasia and a luxating patella. The patella has never caused her any problems but wehave managed the HD with acupuncture and physio since she was diagnosed, and the vet believes this is why she hasn't had any problems with the patella. If he is chasing the cat and then pulls up lame it could be his patella. The mean old vet will probably tell Larry that he is not allowed to chase Hugo...they know how to spoil a boy's fun -
A holistic vet told me that my girl had a "wet" digestive system and that she would benefit from a probiotic. She also has had a sensitivity to chicken so I'm about to see wether the protexin makes a difference.

I'm about to try Protexin for my girl after a course of antibiotics.

The only one I have used is Gary Barnesley at Wallacia. He always does a good job -
What about getting in touch with a canine physio and they might be able to give you some advice regarding exercises etc

My dog developed something like this when she was about 2years old. Worked out that she had a sensitivity to anything chicken or turkey

I went through this with my Cavalier and it was finally diagnosed as very tight trigger points. Went to Pam Short and Mark Hocking at Gladesville Vet and after about 4 treatments was as good as gold. Also saw a cainine physio for exercises which I still do with her
