She had 3 UTI's in the space of about 9 months. Has her urine tested and her PH level was very high with struvite crystals. The ultrasound showed no stones, so I started her on the tablets and had the the urine tested about 2 weeks later and PH level was normal and no crystals :D She's now been on them since October last year and hasn't had a UTI since then, so I think they do help her. It's worth a try

I give my girl one 5,000mg tablet per day and this has been very helpful to her. She's about 12 kgs. Hope this helps

Flucort Domoso Roll On For Dogs
CavsRcute replied to CavsRcute's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thank you to everyone for the replies. I went to a vet who also does chiropractic work today and i bought it from him...$59.00 I don't mind the money if it works. I'll keep in mind that you can buy it at a saddlery. My girl has HD and sometimes walks with a funny gait and consequently has a sore lower back. Chasing possums doesn't help :D She seems a little more freer since this morning. He said to put it on twice a day for 2 days and once a day for 3 days and go back and see him. He also did some laser work on her-tha actual consult was $49.00 which I thought was reasonable. -
My dog has been prescribed this for her sore back. Just wondering whether anybody has ever used it. It is an anti inflammatory/ ananalgesic gel

Would You Xray Again- Hd And Ed
CavsRcute replied to Cosmolo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
MY girl has HD and something similar happened to her a couple of months age. She was playing with a new friend and then went to sleep on the pavers outside and then went for a car trip for about an hour. By the time I got her home she couldn't move her back leg. Her vet found some trigger points in the area. HHe worked on them and she was a good as gold the next day. He said that he sees it all the time -
Slightly off topic-did you see Sara Goldsmid? They are great at Strathfiled and I'm sure they'll help Sweep.

Could it be anything to do with the flea baths?

Still Shedding Heaps After Visit To Groomer :(
CavsRcute replied to mplsv's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Oops! ;) To the OP, bad choice of dog to get if you wanted low shedding. Cav's are notorious for it. As a groomer, I know I can spend ages on a dog and when the client comes and they pat the dog even more hair comes off. My brother has a Border which they get groomed elsewhere every fortnight and the hair that comes off him is astounding. No problem, Clyde You know she's always going to be like that! I'd tried the Furminator at home and didn't have any luck with it. Everyone says she looks younger since you trimmed her ears -
Still Shedding Heaps After Visit To Groomer :(

I have a Cavalier with a very heavy coat. She went to the groomers the other day( and she looked beautiful when I picked her up) and she said she'd used a Furminator but not much fur had come out. A couple of days laetr I used a Mars Coat King and got out 1/2 a shopping bag full of fur and there is still more to come -
Rilexine And Adverse Reactions
CavsRcute replied to Blue Fox 001's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My girl was on it for a UTI...never again! She was very lethargic and didn't want to eat(and she's a Cavalier!) and runny poos but no vomiting. Took about 24 hours for it to get out of her system. She now only has Clavulox -
I always refigerate mine but take it out before I inject it, as she squirms a bit if it's cold. The vet sold me the syringes, needles and vial of Cartophen and my friend who is a nurse does the injection :p I give 1 x 4 weekly course every 3 months

I heard a very similar story the other day about the same sort of dog.He wasn't putting on any weight as a puppy and throwing up. He had a HUGE hiatus hernia. Had to have an operation and was cut right up the middle but is going OK now. He had x rays, ultrasound etc He went to a specialist centre

Increasing Muscle In Back Legs...
CavsRcute replied to pennyw74's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would contact Helen Nicholson who is a very good canine physio, and ask her advice. I do exercises for my Cavalier's HD and they work well. -
Poor Gertie...give her a big hug. Now she'll have a reason to be carried Is she at our favourite vet?

Will do!

Where do they work from, and how much on average per visit? Cheers. Last time I went he charged $40.00. They're out at Greendale near Warragamba. Takes about an hour from my place. PM if you want to know anything else. You know I'm the master with anything to do with joints

When does he get fed? This was happening to a dog of mine and I was advised to give her a biscuit when I put her to bed. It never happened again and it had been going on for about 2 weeks

Conflicting Specialist Reports Re Knee Problem
CavsRcute replied to grabonsam's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Are you in Sydney? If so, I would suggest you take your dog to Mark Hocking at Gladesville for trigger point therapy. I also spent thousands of dollars trying to find why my dog was limping...but no answers. She has acupuncture on a monthly basis and trigger point therapy when needed. If they are not walking correctly, certain points will become knotted. Just as an example...Day before Mother's Day was visiting a friend who has tiles and a staffy cross kelpie with very high energy...not a good combination for my Cavalier who wasn't used to either. She slipped but was alright at the time. Finally they had a rest and she was laying on the pavers for about an hour. She was then in the car for about anothe hour and a half. By the time we got home she couldn't move and was yelping. Took her to Mark the next day and he found a huge trigger point at the top of her thigh..he did his magic and she was right as rain :thumbsup:I have also heard of a GSD who had been on a very long walk and then in the car for 2 hours had exactly the same reaction If she has a tight trigger point, it doesn't affect her in every movement and I find that Metacam doesn't help much if she has one. Good luck...it can be frustrating -
Diesel Has Cushings And Seizures

If you are up to another opinion, maybe try Max Zuber at Gladesville Vet Hospital as i have heard that he is very knowledgeable about all things neurological. Good luck -
I use acupuncture for my girl who has HD and find this works for her. She has had one Bowen Therapy but I didn't notice much difference...maybe she needs more. What works for one doesn't for another.
