I would also go with Peter. I have also seen Gary but prefer Peter as he appears to "feel" things in the dog that Gary didn't

I would be very interested to hear any results. Years ago I tested a Skudoo(?sp) and it seemed to work in that the dog didn't get any ticks that year

What is it and where do you get it? Sounds as though it may be "natural"

Appointments Or Walk-in At Vets...
CavsRcute replied to stormie's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Definitely appointments, so that I can see my preferred vet and so that I don't have to sit around with other sicker dogs around us. That's why I take her little mat and she sits on the chair next to me If I can't get an appointment I will thengo to my plan B vet and get an appointment. But having said that, my favourite vet will usually squeeze us in -
There are also some small companies that will pick up the dog and take it to the vet for you. You might have to google them.

You have to pay your mother to take a dog that is in pain to the vets I agree I would have been there at the first yelp especially with such a small dog. You need to be carfeul that the rib does not compromise the lung Yes, but it just now started to get to the point where it set off alarm bells. It's been the last several days when she's started to yelp often when picked up. She may have done it a couple of times before then (and we then figured it wasn't something major, like just a bruise from the fall), but now it's starting to scare me. After last night is when I finally realized she needed to go. I can see where some may have taken her to the vet at first yelp. However, we didn't associate it with the fall. You know how you can pick any animal up and maybe accidently touch something sensitive, get a bad grip, pinch them, etc. If I had known it would lead to this, then I certainly would have taken her then. I really wish it had done this sooner so I could have gotten her in sooner. I know I probably haven't been the best pet parent in this case but I honestly, truly didn't think it was something like this in the beginning. If it was like this, she would have been on her way to the vet. What I don't understand is why it's worsening now. Wouldn't it be logical for it to hurt worse in the beginning? I am rather afraid that maybe one of the times I picked her up that maybe I made the injury worse and slowed down healing. Anyways, I totally forgot something. My mom is off work on Wednesday. She may be able to take her in for me if I pay her to do it for me. I'll keep you updated. Thanks for the input, guys.

Raw Supplies On Sydneys Northern Beaches
CavsRcute replied to stormie's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I saw some turkey necks last week at the Woolworths at Thornleigh( at the parkway plaza on the cnr of pennant hills rd and comenarra parkway) They were the cryovacced ones in the white plastic-about 3 in each package. They were in the section with the meat on the right hand side down towards the back -
I also recommend Peter Cheaper than Gary and I found that he really gets into the problem and doesn't do any "cracking" or use machines

My girl goes to sleep even before the needles go in I take her own mat to the vets and before I know it she's snoring her head off

Ladders For Hind Leg Awareness Training
CavsRcute replied to Erny's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I don't know whether this is the same thing but my girl has HD and the physio gave us an exercise to make her become more aware of her back end. We use old broom handles placed at different distances apart ie some close together and others wide apart. We have a run of 5 and do it 5 times. Works well for her and is certainly helping. The lady ay obedience is also into TT and made some dog size cavilettis(?sp) out of plumbing supplies which were also good. -
Just wondering whether anyone has a dog that has experienced side effects from Cortisone. My girl has had 4 days of 2 tablets per day. On the morning of the 4th day, I noticed that she was panting a lot and was becoming very restless. Last night was a nightmare, and this was after she had been reduced to 1/2 tablet once per day. She normally sleeps through the night but from 8.30pm( she had the tablet at 3.30pm) she was breathing hard, restless and panting. This lasted until 3.30am( 12 hours later) and then she settled down and was much better this morning. I have rung the vet and just waiting for them to return my call. I know you're not supposed to stop the medication suddenly, so now waiting for advice. I haven't given her a tablet today. I hate to see her looking so frantic it went against much better judgement...I should have listened to my gut Thanks

Somebody told me it had something to do with atmospheric pressure there's probably some scientific reason When I was working in a maternity hospital, we would always have prem births when it was a full moon I forgot to mention that my girl also goes to a vet who specialises in trigger point therapy, when she walks a bit funny becuase of her hips, she gets trigger points in her front leg

I find acupuncture helps...you won't see an improvement staright away but it will happen I also give my girl weekly shots of Cartrophen for a month in Winter and then one a month in the warmer months. I find that she is worse at the change of seasons. Does the Glucosmine have MSM in it?

Just wondering how Ivan is after his steroids. Lani has had 10 days of Ab's and is a little better.Took her back to the vet and they have given us some cortisone tablets to see if we can knock it on the head. She is still snuffly, with a slight runny nose and the noisy breathing, i have noticed that she will swallow 4 or 5 times, as though she has post nasal drip

I use St Ives vet on Mona Vale Rd. Either sally or Michael. I have been told that Fox Valley Vet is OK, on Fox Valley Rd,Wahroonga and Hornsby Vet in Leonard St, Hornsby were very kind to my friens when she had to have her Bichon put to sleep. I took my girl to Karen Larsen Bridge. I found her through St Ives pet shop...I think it's SMART dog training. Then we went to PPP at St Ives showground for the teen class. I liked them because they use clickers and food rewards, as well as positive reinforcement. They also have small classes. They are more expensive than Northern Suburbs but I think they are better value.

My girl has had brochitis/asthma since we had those terrible dust storms. We were given the option of checking how her lungs were, with xrays or 10days of antibiotics. We chose the second one too. They said it would take about 6 days to see any difference and if it doesn't we will have the xrays taken. My girl has a grade 2 heart murmur but that is not causing her problem.

I have started my girl on the "lite" Lamb formula and she is going really and her poos are small and firm. She also gets meat and veges. The girl at the pet shop said that is a new formula as the old one smelt like play doh

My cavalier was the fussiest find you would ever find. I toughed it out for 4 days and she finally started to eat what I wanted her to....and she hasn't stopped

If you're worried, i would take her back. Little ones can dehydrate quickly. Good luck

Alternative Medication For Sore Tendon
CavsRcute replied to bullyxneo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would find a chiro, acupuncturist or trigger point therapy practioner who deals with animals. My girl has HD and i find she gets really bad trigger point when she is not walking correctly, or if she has pulled something, and through inactivity, it seems to "set" in the wrong position. I had taken her to see a friend who has tiles inside and whle she was running around she pulled her quad. Shen then sat outside on the pavers with us, and then we had 1 1/2 trip home. By the time we got there she couldn't walk. Took her ot the trigger point vet the next and she was fine. Good luck -

I'd be interested to know the name of the acupuncturist, as the vet that my girl used to see here has gone over to Murdoch -
My girl had blood with her cystitis but it cleared up really quickly with antibiotics and cranberry tablets. The cranberry stops the bacteria adhering to the lining of the bladder and also brings down the PH level which also stops stones forming

I spent thousands of dollars on trying to find out why my girl was limping. Tony Black told me she had ED...no! Finally went to animal physio who said most likely HD and it was. Because she had been walking akwardly she was limping on her front leg. I would suggest either Pam Short or Mark Hocking at Gladesville Vet Surgery. I took her here and they found she had really extensive tight trigger points. Put her inder GA to work them all out and she was fine. She noiw has tune ups every 3 months with Mark. Good luck...it can be frustrating
