A Small Tiff In The Off-leash Park
CavsRcute replied to mrs tornsocks's topic in General Dog Discussion
Maybe he did slip his collar as he could have had both a harness and a collar on?? That's beside the point...the dog was not under appropriate control and was in an area he shouldn't have been, and he was harassing my dog. When the dog came near to us I tried to grab its collar and there wasn't one there! And the dog had been running around for at least 5 minutes with nobody even close to him. I don't care want the circumstances were, the owner was in the wrong. And people should be accountable -
A Small Tiff In The Off-leash Park
CavsRcute replied to mrs tornsocks's topic in General Dog Discussion
We have just had the same type of experience this afternoon. Our local oval has an off lead area next to it behind a fence but many people seem to believe that the oval is also off lead I was walking my Cavalier, who has HD and a sore back, on lead around the edge of the oval when a black Lab came bounding up to her. It came very close to her hips and I put myself between her and the Lab. The couple who owned the lab were on the other side of the oval and were calling it but of course it paid no attention, I continued to walk and finally the old lady came and said that thet Lab had slipped it's collar in the off lead area. This was a lie as I had seen it hooning around on the oval for a least 5 minutes and it had a harness firmly in place It's bad enough that there are uncontrolled dogs in area where there are lots of kids but people continually say" oh he won't hurt your dog" ...baloney! And I'm not about to take that chance. And the moral of the story is don't let your dog barrel up to another dog, no matter what the size or you might find me at the other end of the lead and I can be mighty scary -
I get a better reaction if I have been gone for an half hour, than if I've been away for a work day, which is 6 hours It's as though she can't believe her luck that I've come home early :D

Thanks very much. Will wait to hear from you. Do you think it will be within the next 2 weeks?

Hi Stormie, Just wondering if I could come in soon, without waiting for the special day?

For my 7 year old girl I give 2% of body weight but for a puppy it might be different -
My Cavalier gets that smell sometimes when her feet get wet walking on the oval in the morning...it sort of smells like corn chips I make sure her feet are clipped and dry them really well. Sometimes I will wash them in Aloveen and then dry them with the hairdryer

Puppy Classes In Sydney- Northern Beaches
CavsRcute replied to lovemesideways's topic in General Dog Discussion
I took my girl to a teenage class at St Ives Showground, run by PPP, who are big into clicker training. Small classes with a great instructor. I think she was about 18 weeks (my dog...not the instructor ) -
Another one for Hornsby Vet

My Cavalier girl had something similar...but it turned out to be that her tonsils were 4 times bigger than they should have been, and with "changing" cells. So out they came! They also found that she had a slight extra fold in her trachea but now since she has lost a bit of weight, that is much better too She has been really good since, and she is much brighter. Didn't stop her eating. She stayed in overnight with at the specialist centre, as she also has a slight heary murmur. Hope all is well with Lola

that's so nice! she's lucky to have an owner like you I keep toying with the idea of Physio but at this moment, I don't really trust people handling him just yet. This is why Charlie has the most shocking furcut in the world (thanks to his unskilled mummy) and not many people likes to handle him because of his condition. they are too scared to handle him. No problem. There is only one physio that I would trust with my girls care. If you ever need a name, PM me. She is going on maternity leave soon Cheers
-
Just a thought...would Charlie benefit from seeing a specialist canine physiotherapist? I know that he has something rare but the physio has helped me with my Cavalier who has various ortho issues. I am of the same opinion as you...you have to let them be dogs. My girl is not quite 7 and I know she won't make old bones but I make sure she enjoys every day Cheers

I'd also go with the little snack at bed time.I had a dog that did it for 6 months and then I tried this trick...worked like a charm ;)
-
I had one and it didn't make it any difference

I had a rescue Cavalier and at 6 I changed her name from Princess to Sassy...she sometimes listened to me but I don't think that had anything to do with changing her name

How To Complain To Other Owner Nicely
CavsRcute replied to sallyandtex's topic in General Dog Discussion
That's why I don't go to dog parks any more -
My Cavalier is the same. When she meets anyone new, she will usually roll on her back for a tummy rub but the first time we went to see my disabled aunt, she went and sat beside the wheelchair so that my aunt could pat her. She didn't move from her side for the 2 hours we were there There is also an old lady who lives across the road and has one of those ride on electirc scooters. She will try an climb up to sit on the lady's lap, and wiil then walk very slowly along side her. It's beautiful to watch

My girl had some the other night from my fried rice with no ill effects

Do You Have A Dog With Food Allergies?
CavsRcute replied to ~Aimee~'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My Cavalier doesn't tolerate chicken, turkey and rice. She is fed lamb barf patties and extra veges and does well on this. She also has white fish and potato occasionally as a treat If she does have any dry, it is a good quality lamb based one. -
A friend who has a very large staffy has been using the "come along harness" with great success.

I haven't read the whole thread so I'm sory if it has aleady been discussed, but have you seen an animal physiotherapist? My girl has biceps tendonitis at the moment and we have been seeing helen nicholson. I can't recommend her highly enough. Good luck
