Banshee Having Xrays On Monday
CavsRcute replied to yellowgirl's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Has she seen a chiro or physio( sorry if i missed this)? I had the best experience today. We went to see a new vet who has just come back from the UK after doing her chiro training. She picked up things that nobody else has ever mentioned. And my girl sees an acupuncturist, has trigger point therapy and also sees a physio for her HD. When i got home about 15 minutes ago my girl ran around and greeted me by jumnping and play bowing. And she hasn't done this is years. It was great to see So if anybody in Sydney is interested, PM and I will pass along the details -
As far as i know, after the original 4 injections, the cartrophen can be given weekly in winter. So this might help him. I have found for my girl with HD, that the fish oil seems to be working best. She has acupuncture monthly which is also great. She also has a homeopathic anti inflammatory, called traumeel, which she has every day She sleeps on a Snooza orthopaedic mattress, which is like an egg crate. You can buy foam like that from Clarke rubber too. She also sleeps on an elevated bed. There is also a dry food ? Science diet which is supposed to be good for arthritic dogs. I think it's J/D Might be a bit hard with a chewer

How old is Zedley? Could it be some sort of doggy dementia?

Cavalier With Elbow Dysplasia?!
CavsRcute replied to Lindainfa's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have a Cavalier with exactly the same problem but girl is now 7 years old and started all this when she was about 9 months old and she is one of the bigger Cavaliers. She is 55cms from neck to tail After many vet visits and lots of $'s, I can give you the shortened version I won't go through everything that she has been tested for She has HD, which causes her to walk in a rolling fashion. She therefore gets trigger points in various joints, particularly the left front leg. Also recently she has had biceps tendonitis, which causes her to limp etc.We fixed that by going to see a canine physio and exercises etc. We also go to acupuncture every month and trigger point therapy every 2-3 months. It can be a long frustrating time trying to find out the problem. Good luck. You can PM me if you want to ask any questions -
Your Definition Of A Proper Socialised Dog
CavsRcute replied to W Sibs's topic in General Dog Discussion
My Cavalier sounds very much like Charlie. MY idea of a well socialised dog is one that is happy to meet other dogs, does not attack dogs or children, has good manners ie she will do the things that I ask( and she has been trained to do) like sitting, waiting, stopping etc, has a happy demeanour and is happy with her life. She loves to meet other dogs, doesn't play a lot with many dogs, except when she is boarded with a friend and her Cavaliers( but she also has joint issues). She greets dogs and then goes on her way to mosey around. She has also been called anti social but I would rather have a dog like that than one who is continually in your face. She is also very independent, has never winged or cried when left( as long as she has her smacko ) Doesn't ask to be nursed but loves to sit next to you on the lounge and be patted. Is also very laidback and has only barked about 6 times in her 7 years of life and that has been when it is a full moon So I think she is a joy to have around and I have no problem introducing her to children or dogs( always under supervision). She enjoys the interaction but doesn't crave it. -
My girl who has breathing and joint issues loves this weather. She is walking like she is a puppy again...it's lovely to see

Could the strang gait and limp have something to do with his ear, as the inner ear is connected with balance etc?

Ahhh very interesting. His PH levels are off she said. Did the vet try and change her diet to a "special diet"?? Where can i get the cranberry tablets from? A "special" diet was never mentioned at the start of the problem. My vet wanted to try other things first. She did an ultrasound and found there were no stones. I took my girl back 2 weeks later and her PH level was normal and there were no crystals. I give her 1 x 5000mg tablet per day I buy my tablets from the health food shop....they're quite inexpensive The vet explained that the cranberry stops the bacteria from adhering to the wall of the bladder. Slightly I was watching an old episode of All saints today, and a lady had a fall , wasn't found for 24 hrs and in that time she hadn't done a wee. The urine then backed up and caused an infection...might be something similar to Oscar. Good luck

My cavalier went through a time when she was getting UTI's, had a high PH level in the urine and ?struvite crystals. I started her on Cranberry tablets and she has been really well...and that was 18 months ago

Maybe next time ask Clyde.....she's the only one that I will let touch my Cavalier And she puts up with my demands

Had a phone call from Ian last night....my girl's results are great! So no more vaccinations She was vaccinated until she was 4, then had a bad reaction. I had her tested in 08 and everything was fine, so I'm pretty sure that she will be good now for the rest of her life It only took a week for the results, so I'm very impressed with the service

My Cavalier has one 2 x 2 with breakfast, followed by a slurp of Jalna yoghurt...never any problems

What do you mean by dx? Has the vet actually carried out a parvo test? dx is a medical term for diagnosed

We give her Sentinel Spectrum. She used to eat from a metal bowl but now she eats from a plastic one. Have the ulcers become worse since swapping to the plastic bowl?
-
What sort of bowl does she eat from? I know it's probably not the same but my goddaughter( human) was suffering badly from mouth ulcers and went to a naturopath and was put on a herbal medication that fixed them. It was bought over the counter at the health food shop. I will try and find out or you could consult ?All Natural Vet in Sydney. They do phone consults. I thought I remember reading that mouth ulcers can be caused by lack of zinc.
-
I took my girl to have her blood taken for the titre testing. We met Stormie and saw Orbit through the window( he is very handsome Ian the vet was great...so we will just wait and see what the results are.

I have a friend who has a dog with the same mix and she was almost ready to put her man to sleep as the itching was so bad. He had no hair left : She tried a product called Thoroughbred Fix. I think she bought the shampoo and cream. I couldn't believe that it was the same dog

To Break Up The Boredom Or Let Her Get Used To Things?
CavsRcute replied to FranVT's topic in General Dog Discussion
I did the same thing with my Cavalier and have never had a moments problem with her. I give it to her just as I'm heading out the gate. And I do it when I'm leaving her at the groomers ( hi Clyde), her minder, or somewhere a bit different. As soon as she sees my car drive off, she goes inside I have driven around the block and she's never there when I go back to check
