  1. Rosette, I cannot and will never accept the sentiments in your last sentence. There is so much than can and should be done. 1. The neighbours charged with not containing their dog. 2. The neighbours charged with breaking the terms of their lease. 3. The council and police at least expressing their condolences to the HuskyDrake family and promising to do their utmost so ensure no other people and their beloved pets suffer in this horrendous way. 4. The council undertaking to abide by the laws that already exist. And probably more that I can't think of. Your sort of comment enables those who should be doing something to continue to do nothing. Well Number 1 may be achievable though I don't know about the rest. I don't know what people can be "charged" with for breaking the terms of their lease - depends on the wording of the lease. I look forward to an update from the OP about council actions against the attacking dog's owners.
  2. What was happened is I heard some strange noise in my garden at that day, then I came out and saw the bull dog already was in my back yard and was biting my husky. I got shocked and this bull dog looks crazy, then I immediately knocked my neighbour's door but no one home. Then I rang the landlord who used to be my neighbour and want her to contact her tenant to stop their bull dog, as I was so scared of their crazy dog. Through this phone the landlord of the next door told me that her tenant should not have dog here and she asked me to call the police. She also said she will contact the agent. After I made these phone call I started seeing there were blood everywhere. My husky was trying to find a place to hide but it make the things worse, because the bull dog was biting him at a conner and he has no where to go. Then my two neighbours help me to separate the bull dog from my husky and police coming. Police helped me to send my husky to the vet. However my husky could not make it and he passed away at that night. Sorry if I sounded like I was being critical of your actions - that was not my intent. You have suffered a terrible loss and your poor dog dying like that is tragic. My post was more aimed at figuring out where the neighbours were in all this, whether they were at home and did not assist and the sequence of events.
  3. I am very sorry for your loss. Am I reading correctly that your dog was continuing to be attacked while you called the landlord and police? Were the neighbours not at home while the attack was occurring? It is very irresponsible behaviour on their part with tragic results when they knew the dog was not safe to have in an unsecure yard. As the attacking dog is also dead I don't know what further action can be taken.
  4. Is it true the dog has been put down?
  5. He's gorgeous - such beautiful colouring! Good for you for being so sensitive towards his previous owner as well
  6. Seems to all be lamb based which rules it out for my dog - too prone to the itches with anything lamb.
  7. Perse is right - time for some hard decisions. Sometimes they mask pain and will do anything to please - they keep going for you even though it is so very hard for them. Many people on here regret leaving it too long to let their beloved dogs go but none seem to regret the decision to say goodbye maybe a day early. The fact he is spending 95% of his time lying down does tell you something.
  8. Was the vet clear about the level of suffering your little fellow is experiencing and whether there will be any improvement? If he is only ingesting a small amount of peanut butter he must be very unwell. I am very sorry he is having such a terrible time
  9. Sorry to hear Lexie is having such a difficult time - poor girl I don't know about this condition but would suggest you discuss any alternative treatments you may be considering with your vet - you don't know the possible effects especially with the vinegar or herbs.
  10. This. My dog would rather sit in the rain sometimes than in front of the heater, if someone looked over the fence he probably would look like I'd chucked him out. Reality is, he would rather be there than under the carport or inside. I don't feel like walking by once, even twice and seeing him out the front is cause for alarm. He looks pretty well groomed and cared for going by that photo. Seems happy and social enough, I must be missing something. It's not once or twice... it's most times I go past his house and I go past often and infrequently enough that it'd be a pretty big coincidence that he's just been put outside for a toilet run every time I've gone past and seen him but I've never said I know definitely what's going on and I can only speculate... hence why I haven't done anything formal about it. I know some dogs prefer the rain or don't like kennels but I'm sure if you left most dogs outside all day in the rain there would come a point where they would want to dry off or warm up and this dog hasn't got that option. Just as easily as this dog could enjoy sitting in the rain (which I doubt since when I went past during the rain he was curled up in the only dry looking bit of cement) he could also not and if he is outside all day with no way to stay dry if he so decides to then I don't think that's very fair. There could be absolutely nothing wrong and he doesn't seem badly neglected and is always happy to see me but I do find it troubling that there is a possibility there might be something wrong and I'm not doing anything about it. Anyway I'm not going to do anything until I know more or have concrete proof, I bumped into the neighbour once, maybe I'll try asking him if I ever see him again what he knows about the dog. At the end of the day if the owners get checked out and there is nothing wrong then no harm done... if the owner's never get checked out and there is actually something wrong this dog has nobody to help him. You are the one who is in the position to ascertain what the real situation with the dog is. The dog is exposed to the weather and doesn't appear to have water. Trust your instincts if you think something is not right - the dog might look OK but you did mention that he was slow getting up etc so he may be feeling the effects of being exposed to the weather in some way. Good for you for caring.
  11. Sounds like a bully who is trying to make up for his shortcomings by trying to dominate creatures who have little ability to defend themselves - as bullies do.
  12. I would wait a few days and see if you can get photos. I think someone mentioned that you could send these to the RSPCA with your complaint. I would do something soon though before the weather gets much colder - poor fella
  13. He won't be healthy for long being an old dog and left out in the weather
  14. You are right to be concerned - especially if he is getting wet and has virtually no shelter. I would make sure to take a few pictures of the conditions and report to the RSPCA. If they are that clueless a note in the letterbox is unlikely to change their habits.
  15. Poor little old dear How does this happen at her age? I think it is often old people who pass away or go into homes leaving an old dog behind - so sad
  16. me too.... Best of luck OP - I wouldn't want to kill the pups either No drama from you when multiple people say abort/spay but wait a week so the bitch isn't subject to a risky op and it's suddenly not OK... I don't think I said I agreed with the abort/spay option either actually. I think the OP should spay after the pups are born.
  17. me too.... Best of luck OP - I wouldn't want to kill the pups either
  18. This belongs in the "Dog Cruelty and Abuse" thread.
  19. I feel such a klultz.... Rosetta, you are correct. Was off there. Sorry.... I have blonde moments. Don't we all!
  20. Have you tried a different one? Sometimes one may cause a reaction whereas another might not. I find the information about the hazards of essential oils on the dogs skin interesting. I have a tea tree oil shampoo here that I think I will dispose of.
  21. I don't think it would be any different than walking with her husband or a friend as she does now
  22. Risk there is anyone helping may not being aware of the (expected) behaviour of the Guide Dog when in harness. Principal is fine. Implementing may be more difficult. This is only my thoughts but this dog may need to be re-assessed to determine its ability to do its job at the most optimum level. Checks would need to be made to ensure no damage is done to the dog. What a horrible situation. The article says that Amber is 10 years old and "due to retire" - I think she should be retired now and allowed at least a few peaceful years. What happens to them when they retire though - are they rehomed to a suitable family? You would hope so after years of service. The dogs are too valuable to risk placing in this same situation again - its not fair to the dog or the lady concerned.
  23. That poor dog - not even having an owner capable of protecting it to any extent It must be an issue for the Guide Dog Association to allow the owner to take possession of another dog with such a history of attacks on the first. Councils really should be stepping up a lot more to enforce the leash laws - especially when they know very well of problem spots.
  24. A polite decline is sufficient - I don't why people feel they need to explain why. Shopping anywhere is fraught with annoyances these days - especially big shopping centres where you get ambushed everywhere. I particularly hate those children's charity stands where they dress up in bright cloaks and spread out so you almost have to shove them aside to get past. I just want to go about my business without being hassled for goodness sakes! The only ones I give money to is local rescue organisations who set up at the local shops - they are not in your face about it and I prefer to support the little guys. The latest annoyance was at Big W - going through the self serve and being approached by an idle staff member and asked to donate to something. Is that what Big W pays their staff to do - how about actually assisting the customer?
