  1. I don't know about the physical characteristics but did you observe how the kids interacted with the pups? Could there have been a reason for the pup's suspected timidity around the kids? What was the breeder's explanation for the behaviour?
  2. Poor thing - I hope he got home. That is very upsetting to witness. Maybe you could go to the same place tomorrow to see if the guy on the bike shows up again? The dog may very well have been his.
  3. Is goat milk perfectly safe for dogs? I always heard that cows milk was bad for dogs - is goat milk better? Sorry if this is a dumb question
  4. I hate vaccinating every year - I wouldn't do it but for the damn kennel requirements!
  5. I tried Wellness and it made him sick. He currently has Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream but the kibble size is a bit large for a small dog IMO and I would like something I don't have to order online and is available at the pet store.
  6. A bit like people really  I think a sensible diet that suits the individual dog, moderate exercise and good veterinary care including vacs against preventable disease are the best anyone can do.
  7. I see what you mean - poultry can be other than chicken/turkey/duck I guess?
  8. Thanks for the answers. Yes, I realise it is a food for sensitive skin - I was just surprised that it had little to no meat in it. I wonder where the protein comes from - at 26% it is not that low.
  9. I love the Cavs - will get one some day. Maybe the ordinary kibble is better than the skin sensitive one? I am always researching food for sensitive skin for my little poodle :)
  10. I always thought Royal Canin was one of the premium kibbles? This is the ingredient list for their "Dermacomfort" kibble. I can't see much meat in there besides some liver way down the list. It appears to be mostly low grade fillers - has anyone used this particular food? 11. Are you using the chicken or game one? I've been trying the wild game for my cavalier and he is pooing like crazy! I'm not sure whether to bother trying the chicken one or not. Ah - but is it only chicken or game in there? I wish I could be more confident of the meat source - and what exactly is classified as "game"? Yeah I know, they're very vague. They mention duck and poultry but then "meat meal" twice. Apparently the meat source in the chicken one is only chicken and duck :)
  12. Could you kindly PM me the name of the Canberra salon? My sister lives there and I don't want her taking her dog there! Did those cases result in the death of the dogs? This is more widespread than people understand - I have seen it happen myself. Once when I went into a large grooming salon to enquire about services and the girl left a small dog on the bench to come to the counter. I expressed concern at the dog being left tied up on the bench and she said "Don't worry he's good". Next thing of course the dog jumped off and hung there for a few seconds before freeing himself - I left in shock. I always regret not ringing the manager of that salon later. I am sure the owner of the dog was not told about what happened and might have had a dog with a sore neck - none the wiser Sorry Caz - I don't mean to distress you further but people need to get the message out there.
  13. What do you mean? Plutopup, I note you have one post only, being this one. Are you the groomer, or maybe owner? Could you share your story with us please? RIP Buddy, Sleep forever sweetly beautiful man. I can't see where Plutopup has said anything? Am I missing something?
  14. Are you using the chicken or game one? I've been trying the wild game for my cavalier and he is pooing like crazy! I'm not sure whether to bother trying the chicken one or not. 15. You would have to wonder why the man she was talking to didn't ask her why she rescued dogs if she does not like dogs. Rescue requires such dedication I don't see how anyone who does not like dogs would last long - what an irrational person
  16. Play them some classical music - supposed to work a treat in shelters to calm the dogs.
  17. I've given up taking my little dog out with me much. Its OK if you just plan to go have coffee and know a place where dogs are OK outside but you can't do anything spontaneous if you have the dog with you like look at a shop that catches your eye or stop off at the supermarket and pick something up. I've noticed a few parks even ban dogs on weekends Carmel is a lovely place - I remember going there years ago - it was where Clint Eastwood was mayor for a while.
  18. With my small dog its twice a day - usually after feeding. Sometimes he only goes once. He is on a grain-free kibble. Five times is a bit excessive IMO - probably the food causing it.
  19. The parents handled it very badly I think - the little girl should have been left at home with the sister. In this case you were correct to offer sympathy.
  20. Perhaps a new thread could be started about grooming practices and people's experiences and what to look for? Don't know you of course Cazstaff but I am sure what happened to Buddy has touched many people deeply who are reading this forum and may not have joined. I hope each day gets easier for you.
  21. Still trying to work out what they mean by this - what are other's interpretations? Does it mean only poultry meat is in there or could it be other meat as well? A friend and I have both emailed to enquire and have not received any reply - yes I could ring but really can't be bothered. Not very good customer service - I guess I just won't buy it :)
  22. Well, at least we won't see these dogs FTGH on Gumtree because of a relationship break-up and thats got to be a good thing :)
  23. Personally, I think I also would have the eye removed as the percentage is not high enough for the vision to be restored. The thing is if you are confident that your regular vet has the skills to remove the eye competently? I would be tempted to get the specialist to do it. I am sure the little fellow would adjust OK. Good luck to you - its a very difficult decision to be made quickly.
  24. Gosh that poor lady has had problems - hope she doesn't mind her personal situation being posted on the net? Great work with the fire victims!
  25. I wonder why the family was not consulted/informed before the dog was PTS. Doesn't sound like the family was close or they would have known her wishes.
