But hang on its not Nic B's "opinion" is it? Haven't the police actually told her that is what is happening?

Cocker Spaniel Needs Help
Rosetta replied to keetamouse's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Where does it say he bites? In the initial post about him which was quickly deleted. Keetamouse copied and pasted the owners email to her - which clearly stated if you grab him by the collar he will turn and bite you. I have a dog which will do the same so I am not saying the dog should be written off but I do think full disclosure should have been given both here and at the pound. Oh I see. The owners were probably total tools and hurt him. -

The pound have him as exactly that :) A lovely boy - hope he finds a suitable home this time who will have him inside. They need to know his issues up front though. -
Do you feed kibble along with your gourmet breakfast? I am no expert but I would not cut down on the minced meat at breakfast I would cut down on the kibble if you are feeding it at the same time. :) Maybe feed kibble in the evening and continue with the gourmet mix for breaky??

How they can have definitive proof of what isn't happening is interesting, with only one dog found so far. All I know is council and police do not make statements like these without very, very good reason and proof HW They are probably not giving anything away as they are investigating, though they are giving enough to warn dog owners in the area. I was told 100% by police that the dogs stolen were taken to use as bait for dog fighting and that they are investigating the same. I did ask if it was due to a disgruntled dog hater or some sort of low life neighbour taking things into their own hands and I was told 100% "No, keep your dogs locked up and out of view or keep them with you or inside your house I agree - the police do not divulge all the information at their disposal. Likely they think they have supplied you with any relevant information. They probably have ongoing investigations happening. Just because so called "professional" dog fighters don't use bait dogs does not mean that vicious idiots are not conducting their own "versions" of the "sport".

I thought your response was perfectly reasonable MF. What is naive IMO is thinking that this show will have any positive impact on how their audience views the puppy trade going on past performance and the personality of the host.

Your Preferred Flea/tick Treatment
Rosetta replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I wouldn't keep using it if it is effecting her badly. Have you tried the Frontline on her - it is worth a try. Have you looked at using a collar at all? -
Ah yes - and she is such a sensitive soul isn't she. We were supposed to feel sorry for her and her crocodile tears when she got filmed smoking while pregnant. It does not surprise me at all they found a story about a guide dog killed as being funny - those people are beyond strange IMO just beneath contempt. With that sort of record why would anyone offer them the use of their dogs on that show?

What Is The Cheapest Quality Dry Food?
Rosetta replied to Pailin's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have been feeding the VIP also - the ingredients look just as good to me or even better than some of the premium brands. I wouldn't think that Canidae is inexpensive though? -
Love the Corgis :) I think it would depend on the total protein source. If you only fed kibble I would go for a higher level. But if it is supplemented with other proteins such as fresh meat and treats I would go for a more moderate level.

Watch the video. If you can, what isnt on film is described by those who were there, in the Ebook Ruth Downey Inquisition, very upsetting Not their finest hour. Chasing and shooting , in many cases three before it went down incuding I understnd, gut shots? http://cairnsnews.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/the-ruth-downey-inquisition-1.pdf No I won't watch it - I can't stand it. If that is the case that is very bad

How Does Your Rescue Group Work?
Rosetta replied to Loreley's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Just a thought - have any Rescues considered providing a private re-homing service at a premium fee? I know rescues are up against it rehoming dogs as it is - just it might be a way of raising funds for the more needy cases. Not actually fostering the dog as such more like screening prospective homes etc and making recommendations for a fee? Or are there already services like that? -
"Scenes not that much dissimilar to the video obtained by Lyn White of Indonesian slaughter yards that the RSPCA used to shut down the live trade." An interesting comparison - comparing to the horrors of the live export trade - I doubt it. I have been a donor to the RSPCA in the past as many here are. What put me off was receiving many phone calls soliciting donations and receiving really upsetting mail outs depicting terrible images of abused dogs. I just felt as if there was an effort to manipulate people into donating and I resented being confronted with such upsetting images. And also I could not reconcile the stories of dogs being brought back from the brink of death - all the work and resources put into one dog who to be honest it would be kinder to PTS. At the same time scores of healthy dogs were put down - just does not make sense to me. I made the decision to support a different animal organisation for those reasons - I appreciate others have different opinions. I don't think the RSPCA are evil but I wish they would rethink their marketing.

Can Dogs Just Take A Dislike To A Certain Person
Rosetta replied to MsKatie's topic in General Dog Discussion
That is interesting. I wonder if that is why my dog barks at the street sweeping truck but has no problem with the rubbish trucks. That is, it looks familiar but the sound and speed is different? -
I like Caffe Republic but I wouldn't call it particularly "dog friendly". There is only a narrow footpath and no designated tethering poles for dogs - just the street signs and with five dogs it would be a bit difficult. It does have a nice little beach front park opposite you could get take-away and sit there with the dogs though. You might be looking further north though if you are coming from Dreamworld and I don't know of any dog friendly places at the northern end sorry.

Fussy Dogs - My Thought Ponder For The Day
Rosetta replied to a topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
 Spoilt dogs come in all sizes. Mine will eat any sort of kibble providing there is something yummy mixed through but try and serve it up plain and no go -
Still no excuse for onselling an animal that doesn't legally belong to you... Not all strays have "bad" owners who don't care that their dog got out of their yard. Where are the "good" owners going to look first for their missing animals? Certainly not in the For Sale section of a rescue's website/Facebook page... T. It wasn't meant to be an excuse
-
Its amazing how often you see ads on Gumtree where people are giving - or selling - dogs that they claim they rescued from the street as strays etc. I don't think it occurs to those people to take the dog to the pound - which is easier said than done. Perhaps the rescue orgs in Brisbane don't work that closely with the pounds?

This is why I want the clubs to supply information to assist the buyer. What is each test, what is an 'acceptable' result and why the test is done. Give information to the average person that is easy to understand. Purely from a "consumer" perspective can I just say that this is an excellent idea? When researching breeders - in my particular experience mind you - it was surprising how many side-stepped the questions regarding provision of information around health testing - even thinking that stating that pups were "vet checked" was an adequate response.

The AWL on the Gold Coast copped a lot of flak a while back for a similar thing. Can't remember the dog's name now but a large breed that they had up for adoption for some time. Unfortunately for some reason no one was interested and he was PTS but there was a lot of backlash because they said it was because of "behavioural problems" that apparently had developed while he was waiting for adoption. This really did happen because they posted themselves about it on Facebook at the time. It went against their blurb that once "approved" for adoption all dogs are kept until a home is found but this dog did not cope well in the kennel environment apparently.
-
I guess the whole issue is a societal thing - one would ask the question of how any person could have a dog for 13 years and never take it to a vet for instance. The fact is that the mad, bad and totally insane can have dogs and do what they like with them. Until society values animals as sentient beings and not property or throwaway commodities the heartbreak will continue for those of us who have an ounce of compassion for animals.

Dogs Who Visit Hospitals And Nursing Homes
Rosetta replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
Out of interest - are most nursing homes agreeable to visiting dogs? Are there any conditions they impose? I think it is wonderful for the residents to have that contact - particularly in a case such as Mita has described. Having to part with a beloved pet would be terribly distressing for old folks.
