A Follow On Thread For Those Who Now Have Their Puppy
Justrace replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Puppy Chat
I just noticed this thread. I have an almost 5 month old Brittany boy, Murphy. I will have to take some more photos to put up. Love seeing all the updates on the puppies, seeing them all grow up. Misteri what breed is Tango? he's very handsome Sujo, is Flynn 5 months on the 19th of this month? If so that's the same as Murphy. We are besotted with our boy, he constantly has us in fits of laughter with his crazy antics. I was walking him the other night (just around the small block)when he found a McDonalds drink cup,he picked it up & galloped on the end of the lead with it on his nose, he could hardly see where he was going LOL. Took awhile but I managed to get it off him. We have to shut off most of the house from him, our main living area is in the middle of the house with the rumpus & back door behind it. I've been trying to leave the rumpus open but I'm constantly having to remove the kids toys & books that he is stealing. We're not used to closing everything off, our old dog would only ever play with her toys & never steal the kids stuff - but she was much older. Still trying to decide when to desex Murphy, I was advised to wait until his growth plates close but the vet is saying to do it asap. Not too sure which way to go. One issue I have is the bitch next door isn't spay & should be coming into season in the next month or so, I really don't want to have him locked up the entire time she is in season (I know he wont lock the bitch up) and they used to try & dig under the fence to each other when we first got Murphy. Hope everyone is keeping warm in this really cold weather. -
Stan's mum can you PM me some details & I shall post it on the Britanny facebook page, with the hope that one of the breeders recognise it.

Would it make you more comfortable if you could keep in contact with the people that buy her? Maybe there is a very special home out there for her. Our boy was the breeders partners favourite, but he wasn't suitable for showing so was sold to us :D We are more than happy to keep in regular contact with them & catch up every so often so that they can see how happy we all are. He is very loved & that makes them very happy to see.

we had the Brittany & the Lagotto on our list as a family dog. My eldest wanted a Lab or Golden but I thought they might be a bit too heavy set & might knock the smaller ones over when playing. We decided on a Brittany and so far everything is great.

As the title suggests, How on earth do I stop Murphy chasing the cat?? The cat sleeps in the garage, she has grown up with our last dog & used to sleep with her. She just wants to play in the back yard with the dog & probably snuggle up with him - she's so not used to all this chasing business. Murphy will not allow her to just walk around the yard, cat thinks it's a dog so will play out there with the kids. This morning I put him on the lead when I let the cat out & waited until she decided to leave the back yard to let him off (did some grooming, training & picked up the poo). Any tips / suggestions on how to get him to leave her alone? Oh Murphy is a Brittany - almost 5 months old.

I had a double play pen with a crate in the corner for our Brittany puppy. He could walk straight through the bars of the play pen  we ended up having to put clear plastic through the bars - I wanted him to be able to see. Have you already ordered the crate & it's just a matter of waiting for it to arrive? I got mine second hand and had it all set up ready before he arrived.

I blot with paper towel then use warm soapy water to clean up the initial mess. The use the vinegar. I just wash everything in the machine & have the vinegar in the final rinse bit. We are waiting until our pup is toilet trained & then we are pulling our carpets up & replacing with floating floors, so we're not too concerned about the carpet.

My vet doesn't recommended the 3rd vaccination, he said I could get it done if I wanted but it was not something that they routinely do any more - the second one was the C5. I did phone around a few different vets in the area and was told the same thing
-
My last dog used to get car sick, I would put some peppermint essential oil on a tissue or hankie & place it in front of the air vents. Seemed to help her. Have a good day tomorrow

What about a Lagotto Romagnolo, no shedding, can be clipped, medium sized. One of the mums from school has just got her second one, they look like such a lovely dog

I clean all toileting accidents with vinegar. Maybe try putting a water bowl next to the back door, most puppies don't like to toilet next to their food & water bowls. If it's under cover even put a bed there for her

How exciting, I bet that you are counting down the days. My puppy (now 17 weeks) only had to have 2 vaccinations, the one at 6 weeks done by the breeder & then the next one was to be between 10 & 12 weeks. The last one was the C5 and the vet advised that he didn't need another one until the booster for 12 months. I did phone around different vets in the area and was told as long as it was the C5 being done they all said only to do the 2. When my old girl was a pup I was advised that I could take her out, but to stay on the concrete & not let her stop to sniff any grassy areas - mind you this was 13 years ago. I didn't take my new puppy out until he had has his last vaccination & including the time for it to fully kick in.

We were looking at the Logotto for the shedding & their temperament with kids, but fell in love with the Brittany. Maybe head out to a show to have a look at the different breeds & talk to the people there.

We got a Brittany puppy in March & I have a 2, 2 and 6 year old. Our beautiful old girl had to be PTS late last year & we all miss her terribly. She was amazing with the kids and we felt that they knew how to treat animals. The first 4 weeks were really difficult but we seem to have settled into a routine now. The older children understand not to go near him when he is in the crate, which is in our main living area but the 2 year old I do catch sitting in front of him playing with his toys. I make sure that if I can not 100% supervise them that he is crated or outside. If the kids are outside playing and I can't be out there with them, the puppy comes inside. To be honest I think if you got a pup before your second child (kids are hard work LOL) and you made sure the dog has a place to get away from your toddler, it would work okay. It is a lot more work raising a puppy with kids, but I just couldn't stand not having a a four legged in the house. Good luck

Could A Breeder Successfully Sue For This ?
Justrace replied to Christina's topic in General Dog Discussion
The paperwork says "Not for Breeding or Export" stamped in large letters across the front. On the back it has Limited Register Restrictions I/We understand the undersigned new owners acknowledge that is has bee fully explained to me that this dog is registered on the Limited Register and that the following restrictions apply: a) The dog is inelligible to be exhibited at a conformation sho; and b) For any reason, not to be used for breeding purposes; and c) An Export Pedigree will not be issued if transferred overseas. Just happened to have my boys sitting on my desk :D HTH -
Need Ideas For Keeping My Girl Warm
Justrace replied to Little Gifts's topic in General Dog Discussion
Can you raise the crate off the floor? Even with blankets on the floor the cold still comes in. What about a panel heater that is free standing or you can attach to the wall & have her crate in front of that? Just leave it on low, no way that she could get burnt through that (I used to have one under my desk at work & I'd put my feet on it LOL. I do love the look of those snuggle safe heater pads :) -
Hopefully the dog & children will now get some help. Sad that the father can't see the situation for what it is

Arthritis (catrophen Injection)
Justrace replied to GraceMcC's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My old girl had the same initial treatment but then was followed up with an injection each month. On the days when she forgot that she was an old girl with arthritis, we had tablets to give her. I had previously used cartrophen on horses before, which the reason I decided to take that path with the dog. -
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. We lost out beautiful old girl November last year & got a puppy mid February this year, we got everything new except the metal framed bed. I was almost going to get another cover for it but decided it was in prefect condition & have just left it. While our puppy is delightful and we love him to pieces I still miss my old girl so very much, but I know that Murphy will grow to be every bit as fantastic, if not better (due to me hopefully getting more knowledge from her. Good luck in finding someone that will fit into your family.

I don't much about them, but what about a Clavier King Charles?
-
Old wives tale but when a baby (human or fur baby) has the hiccups they are said to be growing.
-
Good thinking, or it might get a bit awkward knowing who you are calling out to if they were all called the same bahahaha should have really read how that sounded.
-
I'd just go with what you want. I names a horse after a character in a show that I though was really cool - we also had Munroe (from Grimm :D ) picked out for Murphy - that and Kip (the horse from Man from Snowy River) My human kids all have different names, I think because mine is so boring that I wanted different.

you could offer to drive over to pick the dog up & see what he says. I think we all know what the response would be
