Not Sure How To Best Manage Neighbours Dog
Justrace replied to louise6616's topic in General Dog Discussion
Can you contact the Real Estate Agent to see if they know that they have a dog? I had this same problem in my last house & called the Agent - turns out they weren't allowed to have any pets, the dog ended up going to live with her parents and was allowed in the house & taken every where with them :D best outcome -
A Good Breed For Someone With Anxiety?
Justrace replied to kiwifeathers's topic in General Dog Discussion
My first "own" dog was a Rotti, she was a bit naughty - jumping, digging, chewing etc until she was around 2 - but I worked full time and she only got walked once a day but came out with me on weekends. She was always brilliant around other dogs, horses, kids and small animals. People were always weary about her, but she was so very gentle. She just liked to be around us and ended up be rather lazy. I can recall walking her late one evening, two guys were driving slowly beside me trying to get me to talk to them, once they saw that I had her with me, they speed off I felt very secure walking her & if my parents ever went away I'd have her inside with me. -
I feel so bad for the people showing their dogs there today, they were so squished in with hardly any room for anyone to walk around. After speaking to a few people, they wont be going next year if it's held at the same grounds. What a shame

The rides are SO close to the road it's not funny, I really hope that they close off the road. Where on earth are all the people meant to park? Clearly they have not though this through, would have been better to hold it at the new footy oval - at least there are 3 ovals and a bit more parking.

Oh my goodness she is so cute, I bet your kids are so excited. Best of luck, can't wait to hear the pupdates

OMG could they be any cuter?

Many years ago I purchased my first own dog, I could have paid an extra $300 for one that was unregistered but from registered parents (this was about 25 years ago and I'm lead to believe that the rules for registering were different back then) but $500 seemed so much money. So I decided to go the cheaper option and went to look at a BYB's litter. I felt so sorry for this little puppy that was being jumped all over and decided that I couldn't leave it there. This dog was only $200, but within the first 6 months cost me more than the extra with the skin condition that it had. She ended up having really bad hips and was allergic to almost everything. We revamped our backyard pulling out anything that she reacted to. The medication for her hips and the special food that she had to be on long term far out weighed the initial purchase price. She was the best dog as far as temperament went, but health wise she was a ticking time bomb. She ended up going to rainbow bridge when she was 9 The initial purchase price is nothing if you are going to be faced with constant vet bills for things that possibly could have been avoided. Good luck, go with your gut.

The soft collar made no difference to my boy, he still managed to get at the stitches, he had to have the hard collar on the entire time that the stitches were in. He could eat and drink without any issues, I did find that he was a lot hotter with it on, so ended up putting small fan on him on the really hot days (was inside in the air conditioning)

I had a Rottweiler and a blue heeler x kelpie, people would come over and be concerned about the Rottweiler yet it was the heeler that would bite if you came into the yard without us. The Rottweiler would have probably help a burglar carry the stuff to the car She was an amazing dog around kids and other animals. Did take about 2 years for her to mature though.

phone the breeder and send it back, I'm sure she/he has loads of people wanting a pup.

I highly recommend getting in contact with Steve from K9 Pro. What you are describing is my Murphy as a puppy, he's now 11 months and we just got back from a "holiday" to work with Steve. I only wished that I had of gotten in contact with him earlier.

Yay for eating breakfast. My son just had a hernia operation and is taking longer to recover than they said it would, the stitches are pulling and annoying him, everything stings. Might be the same for your furkid

oh no poor thing (both you and him) if he's in pain I doubt he'd eat

They went through bark busters and had chains that they threw at the ground to get the dogs attention to stop them from barking, along with a word (Bah)that they had to growl, followed by good dog when the dogs stopped. Once the dogs were conditioned to all of that the neighbours would use the same techniques, throwing the chain onto the ground, saying the word followed by the praise. Just a thought after watching my dog barking at a bird sitting on my neighbours shed today, could be barking at a nesting bird?? Murphy is going mental with the birds at the moment, lucky my neighbours both have dogs and are very understanding.

Exactly!! I was very diplomatic with the neighbours that I managed to meet for the first time - and it was good to take the westies with me - it personalised them rather than them remiaing some annoying anonymous dog over a fence. They got lots of pats and attention too. The follow-up note is a good idea DD - thanks - I;ll try and catch more neighbours tomorrow and then follow-up with a note next week - hopefully after I've made some progress. You may find that the council has advised them to just leave a note first. Sadly some people may get abusive if they are confronted, so to avoid that happening they will eave a note. My friend did have barking dogs, they would go mental when the people over the back would potter in their garden and sit on their back patio. The people were advised to leave a note first, my friend had already started to put a plan into action before they found out who made the complaint, but once found out who complained they got them to be instrumental in the solution. I hope that you can sort something out or prove that it's not your dogs (if it's not)

I saw an older girl being being advertised at Pets Haven she is 8 though hope this link is allowed -
we are going through this with our 10 month old Brittany. He used to be good inside but the last few months is really silly, I have started putting him in his crate to settle when he gets silly. Seems to help a bit

I hope they have caught it early enough, thinking of you

Worried About Mr Huxley's Reaction To The Storm.
Justrace replied to mixeduppup's topic in General Dog Discussion
fingers crossed that he'll be waiting at the back doorstep this evening -
we grew up with mainly cross breed dogs, I had a Rottie for my first own dog, didn't want to compare the next one with her, so I wouldn't get another (although I would now) My second dog picked me, I didn't feel ready to get another dog but went with a friend to the pound. Two days later (after lots of trying to talk myself out of the idea) went back to get her. She was a cross breed. I now have a Brittany, I do like the breed so far, only time will tell if I'll get another one.
