I saw that TOTW is for all life stages. Does that mean I could feed it to my 7 month old puppy? I always wonder if there's a vast difference between adult and puppy formula. I sure can't tell just from looking at the ingredients. I keep a bag of kibble as a precaution, and he doesn't like it too much (Wellness Puppy). Healthy doesn't always mean tasty, apparently

I saw her in one of SOS' FB posts. Obviously, there would be many applicants for such a pretty lady. I've always wanted a pomeranian with that exact color :)

I'm thinking of doing a trial myself as my family is not the type who would be at ease letting strangers into the house. I heard good reviews on Renbury boarding. It would have to be individual kennel / run, as he's a hit or miss when meeting other dogs. Now that I read this thread, I worry because it drives him crazy at home when he hears dogs barking. I can imagine it's even worse at the kennels.

Usually when mine is sick, I feed diced chicken breast / lean pork mince with a bit of veggies and rice. He eats better than me :laugh: I don't feed wings because the skin part is too fatty for me. I recently started giving him meaty thighs and for bones, chicken frames, which I get for free at my butcher's.

Inka3095, I've had similar experience with PetRescue. Now I wonder if it could be technical difficulties with their inquiry page? Before I had my current dog, I wanted to adopt senior dogs on PetRescue. I asked basic questions i.e where they were fostered because I might not be able to drive too far from Sydney. I inquired for a couple senior dogs posted by different groups there and received no reply. And then of course, PetRescue posted their pictures on their Facebook page repeatedly to please consider saving these dogs :)

Admittedly, I was guilty of this early on with Giorgio though I wasn't the one driving. I'd sit at the back of the car, hold him very tightly and let him look out the window with his harness on. This was because if he doesn't have his head out the window, he gets carsick, very anxious and starts whining. We can't roll down the windows either. I did this during emergency trips to the vet because otherwise he would throw up and felt worse than he already was We have a Snoozer high car seat now (got it for $60, down from $140), and are working on very short car trips with him.

It's entirely possible she just wants to communicate with you, and that's the only way she knows how :) Mine is generally quiet and only barks when there is intruder, which by his definition is any passerby within 20 metres of the house, airplane, birds or flies which he's anxious to catch One thing I read was to teach your dog to bark first, by putting a command (Bark, Speak, Talk etc) when she starts barking, a 'Quiet' command and a treat reward when she stops. Everyone is always amused when I say "Good talk!" and my dog goes quiet :laugh:

Here's a neutral experience to balance it out. Back when I first got my puppy, I wanted to foster or adopt a senior dog since I had the time and resources and me and my dog would enjoy the company. Spoke to a couple rescues but I was refused on the basis that my puppy was not desexed and they wanted to avoid accidental pregnancy. Fair enough, so I asked if there was an already desexed dog that I could foster, or a male one. Was told that it could create territorial issue. I asked if there could be a trial period, but apparently it wasn't doable. Of course, I wouldn't desex my then 14 week old puppy just to appease the rescue. I had made the decision early on to wait until he's grown up. The person I talked to was nice about it. It just wasn't meant to be (for now) :)

I don't think hair is digestible. I have long hair that shed like fur and had the same thing happen to my puppy. I didn't know he was eating hair until he threw up some of it. He didn't have difficulty pooping though. Needless to say I began to vacuum like crazy and the problem seems to be gone now. Good luck!

Aww he looks like he's enjoying himself :D What's the consensus about antlers? I read somewhere that elk antlers are better than deer and that they come in different quality grades.

Well, my parents will be away for a month so hopefully that will help curb his footwear fixation :)

Thanks, Nekhbet. I'll do that and also focus on improving his 'leave it' for now. He does well with food, not so much shoes and no-no items. When we're home alone and there are no shoes, no trash can etc in sight, he behaves well, except for the carpet chewing. He couldn't steal the carpet, but that's not for lack of trying :laugh:

Yes, the very same. The thing is, these are the slippers we wear inside the house and he likes to take it off our feet by any means necessary. If I don't take the slipper back, he will tear it apart. My mother in particular isn't happy that he has ruined so many slippers. He has a free access to backyard but prefers human company. Once my family head out, I let him out of the playpen for playing and training. I used to take him for a long walk daily (2+ km) but after reading the thread about exercising puppy, I've dialled it back to half the distance and made sure to stop and rest a lot, especially since he runs, not walks. About timeout, true, it only helps to remove him from the carpet / shoes. He's young and easily excitable and once focused on something, I'll have to carry him (like a baguette) to calm him down. He also seems unhappy if I leave him and go upstairs, so I've done that when he's being particularly naughty. Just do some home chores and come back down 15 min later to a much calmer puppy. But these don't deter him from repeating it, so I'd like to focus on training.

Just an update that I've tried freezing the chicken wing and leg, with fat removed, and he hasn't been able to gulp it down. He loves it and it's easy to prepare, which is a plus. His poo hasn't always been great so I'm hoping it will improve as I introduce more raw into his diet.

Thanks for all the suggestions :) It's good to know that mine isn't the only one with footwear fetish. It doesn't help that my mom loves to wear fluffy slippers :D I'll give vicks a try - that's one smell I can stand. I'll also keep improving his 'leave it'. I guess repeat is key when dealing with stubborn pup. He's at that selective hearing stage where I'll ask him to 'sit' for food and you could see him calculating if the food is worth it before reluctantly obeying Thanks for the link. Those are some interesting toys. The ones I got didn't stand a chance with his puppy teeth. He just chewed them to pieces, pulled the stuffings out and lost interest once the stuffing's gone. Ooh I should try Swap. I used to do a less effective version of that: holding the stolen item in one hand and a treat in another and ask him to choose. Obviously, he eats the treat and immediately lunges for my other hand :laugh:

So, how do you keep your dog from chewing shoes and tearing carpet? I'd love to be able to let my pup out more when there are people in the house, but he always goes for slippers and then the carpet. We don't leave shoes lying around. They are house slippers, which he'll try to take off our feet, sometimes biting ankles in doing so. He goes nuts, throwing them around and chewing them until they are in pieces. My big mistake is to try get them back, which turns it into a chasing game for him. It's hard not to do this though as we've gone through slippers like tissue papers. Time-out in the playpen doesn't work - the second I let him out, he'll be back hunting slipper. He will however, ignore the slippers if he sees us going for car ride, so it seems that the slippers are high value items for him, but not above riding on the car. I'd love a long-term solution and training method him to ignore / leave the slippers and carpet alone. We have tried the usual: Kong, chew toys, ice cube, vinegar, tabasco and sprays (the smell kept *me* off my shoes), and not that he doesn't like them - he just really enjoys slippers & carpet Ideas for mental exercises are welcome. Right now, aside from training & playtime, I do the hiding food in one hand, and we just started on the triangle of temptation. He only obeys 'leave it' when it comes to food, not toys or other items, so we're working on that too.

Unbelievable that the uni girls would think it's okay to leave her alone especially after the first incident. That said, the other developments sound really promising, Jelly Perhaps you could consider pensioners who are always home for the day?

I wouldn't leave my dog unaccompanied because he would either get stolen or happily follow strangers. I've seen many people tie their dogs outside the banks or supermarkets, from samoyed to toy poodle. If the dog has shade & water and is used to it, I agree with others that there doesn't seem to be a problem. A dog's sad face is relative - mine has perpetual sad face :D And OT but I love your username, OP.

I had a similar problem recently. My puppy whined and cried when pooping and when he finally did it, it stuck and he had to be cleaned up I was worried about obstruction and called the vet. But then I gave him some mashed pumpkin, a bit of plain yoghurt and kept him hydrated and that solved the problem.

What a horrific incidence I hope they do find the owner. As an owner of a small and yes, yappy dog, this is my biggest fear.

He'd try to and I had to pull it from his mouth and he's not very happy about that. Haven't tried frozen so I'll do that and also try the chicken frames, thanks :) Can you find turkey at Woolies? I don't think I've ever seen those at my local butcher's.

Do you have any suggestion for a meaty bone for a 4kg silky terrier? I can't give him chicken wings/neck because he's a gulper. And no weight-bearing bone because it will chip his teeth
