Hey it was a learning experience and one I wont make again. I never thought in my mind that the neighbors would kick up a stink. Although I am a live and let live type person but hey they started it so they will be getting nice visits from the council because I am tired of listening to their dog bark all day. So they either shut their dog up or they deal with the rangers. How they can complain about dogs that never barked, we not outside unless supervised and only to play and potty is beyond me but we will see how they like the rangers knocking on their door because their dog is a small yappy dog that barks all day You would be better off putting your energy into learning about greyhounds and looking into laws, regulations and best practices than wasting your time on retribution. Council will require you to provide detailed evidence before they take action on a complaint like that. Other than that, all they will do is inform the dog owners that somebody has made a complaint about them. I thought you were moving anyway? Live and let live only applies when you act within the law. Council permission is required in most areas of Victoria to have more than two dogs. Actually its 3 dogs we can have here per the ranger that we talked too. they possibly objected to you taking the greyhounds out to play in the middle of the night cause they wouldn't settle as per your FB page. Your above post certainly shows what type of person you really are. Lol if taking the dogs out to run around is a crime sue me. These dogs dont bark, a 10 minute zip around the yard is hardly disturbing. I guess it is less disturbing then a dog barking all day then getting let out at 11pm to bark some more. Not sure why you feel the need to follow someone on facebook that you dont like. Is your life missing something that you need it to fill? Soaps not giving you your drama fix? yeah that I dont like listening to a dog bark all day, waking up the baby etc? Horrible person to want to live in peace and have a baby that can take a decent nap on her bed instead of being woken up and having to sleep in my room because its further away from this dog barking.

What about Companion dogs that you dont want public access for like one that will just be at home and help with a mental illness. Are they covered like seeing eye dogs where landlords cant discriminate against them?

Just an update Lucky is fine. She is heading to a foster home that is willing to foster her for awhile so we can get everything squared away. Thank you for all those concerned this was a bump in the road, lessons were learned and mistakes will not happen again. We will not be taking in any more dogs until we are moved and settled and have everything in concrete and all that good stuff.
-
I just want to point out, as others have in this thread, that you cannot legally rehome them until the microchip details are in your name. Yup we know that will all be settled before they are rehomed to permanent homes.

Did you end up taking her to the vet Greylvr? No real need to see a vet for ear mites. A drop of Advocate on the outside of either ear, give it two days and then give the ears a thorough clean. If the ears smell or the dog still looks uncomfortable, it's probably a fungal infection (which can be caused by the ear mites). I did have one question, if you don't mind me asking this, Greylvr- what do you intent to do with dogs that are not safe around small dogs? Well actually we didnt see a problem placing them not around small dogs but you guys do have a point in that if these dogs are going to go out in public placing a greyhound that would like to eat small dogs may not be the best idea because I know there are plenty of idiots who let their dogs run loose wouldnt want an accident to happen and have it effect negatively on the breed. I will be talking with the rescues I have networked with and other rescues to get some guidance on this issue from people that have been doing it a long time and I have formed a trust with. Oh and yes we got advocate for all the dogs which seems to have done the trick. I think you'll find most greyhound rescues will say the same thing- dogs that aren't safe around small dogs are not suitable for rehoming. Even with the best intentions, accidents can happen and they reflect badly on the breed. I'll give you a few examples here, based on my own experiences- Back before I took over GAP Tas, the co-ordinator at the time literally knew nothing about greyhounds, she'd never even owned one. I was fostering a lovely boy for her and while on walks, he seemed disinterested in cats. Now, bear in mind these observations were not the result of structured testing and I made that clear to her- "Shows no interest in chasing cats while on walks, still needs to be prey drive tested though as that's not my job" (which it wasn't, I was just a foster carer). Instead of testing him, the co-ordinator just rehomed him to a rural area- after all, not much trouble a greyhound can get into there, given everyone contains their dogs anyway. Except they don't. Two smaller dogs came in under the stock fencing and the dog in question chased them down. The owners of this greyhound were utterly horrified and the fallout was considerable- Panterka and I had go drive down there (across the other side of the state) and pick him up because by that time, the previous co-ordinator had buggered off, leaving behind a trail of shockingly bad management. Now, in theory, it probably did seem like a safe environment- the owners had good fences (for stock and big dogs), they lived in an area where lots of people owned horses (so wandering dogs were usually dealt with swiftly) and they didn't really need to exercise the dog off their own property. But look at the outcome.. I had to have to owner fill in a return form and it was horrible; handed it over to her, she read it, burst into tears and ran from the room, leaving me, Panterka and the owner's husband standing there. Horrible, horrible situation and it should NEVER happen. Point is, even in the most ideal situation, you can never be 100% sure that the dog won't get a chance to hurt another dog. Inevitably, the owners will decide to walk the dog in public and then.. well, the possible outcomes are not good. Thanks for sharing very good point.

No. If you were really in it 'for the dogs', you'd have spent more than a couple of weeks on the exercise. Some people take years to make sure they're going to do it right, they don't jump in blindly. It has NOT been good for the dogs - either these two individuals, or rescue/greyhounds as a whole. Sorry, I was being as nice as possible but I'm not sure about the tone of the bolded bit. You think it's GOOD of you to pass on the donations? And you didn't ask the other rescue group for anything? I would hope you're paying them something for helping you out! Also you should realise that $500 for two dogs isn't an awful lot to be paying out in rescue. Nope I realize $500 isnt poo as I use to spend much much more on my rescue dogs before the break. Like I said have a good Christmas and we will be back. Oh worded wrong I would never ask for anything I meant try to persuade them into just letting me adopt the dogs out and use one of their foster homes. Never mind my words are not coming out right so Ill just leave the thread now.

We dont speak with PR just getting the paperwork and there are no greys up at the shelter that will need help as the rescues up there have it covered we will be updating our facebook later today or tonight just finishing up some stuff around here. I do have to say though that we did call a PR volunteer when all this went down and she was very nice and even offered some suggestions and put us in contact with some more people. The paperwork isnt here yet but lets hope we can get that if not we know how to make our own paperwork which another rescue can help us with the steps. So have a good Christmas and when we get all settled in we will open our doors back up to those greys in need.

We do have a way to separate them thats why we had no issues with the cat but we will continue to help the breed and we will continue to rescue when we get moved and settled. Life threw a curveball we dealt with it and kept the dogs safe. We had networked before getting the dogs so we did have support from other rescues and one has made the decision to help us and we are very grateful for that. This is a good rescue that didnt feel the need ot down us to make them feel better about themselves. We would never not do right by the dogs. No one is downing you, but it is a good lesson on the "cover all your bases and think before you leap" - which everyone tried to get you to listen to, but you were too stubborn to accept. In hindsite, if you had listened to the advice of the wise, experienced rescuers you could have started off your rescue in your new place and had a fantastic first experience, not one that started on the wrong foot and gave the wrong impression to the rescue world, like this. Well actually I would think that this experience would surly show people that we are here for the dogs we did what was best for the dogs, we didnt dump them at the pound we didnt put them down we found safe places for them. So you can see we do right by the dogs. You can also see that we are not in it for anything other than the love of the dogs, we have a rescue taking one into their program didnt ask for anything from them, didnt try to persuade them into fostering or letting us adopt out the dog so that we can get the adoption fee. We have spent $500 since Thursday on the dogs and have no issues with it. Even letting those people who wanted to donate to Ina that the new rescue can take her donations.

I didnt say I had placed the dogs, I said I was looking for foster homes and I contacted a rescue that I had networked with. Anyway I really dont have time for this back and forth shit anymore. I dont have the energy to fight with people you guys enjoy yourselves and have a good life.

No I know your not trying to make it hard but some here just need give it up I know there are drama queens but jeez taking joy in one persons stressful time is just a nasty thing to be proud of. NO ONE is taking joy in the dogs having a rough time of things. Take a deep breath, have a cup of tea and re read the thread when you have a cooler head. Really concern for the dogs? If anyone was concerned for the dogs they would have messaged me or e-mailed me not done a smear campaign on a forum. Concern for the dogs thats what this is? Glad someone thought to drop me a note to see how the dogs were. Dont try to sugar coat the people here who are lapping this up like warm milk

Like I said when she came to us she had stitches which the vet said was most likely from a csection which they may have taken the whole uterus out due to her age etc She will be getting it all worked out after Christmas because she cant have an operation until after that.

Lol really this is that urgent that people are calling around, why not worry about dogs that are dying? Why not make calls for Gap to help drum up donations or help them move some dogs rather than acting like gossiping school girls Ah actually I do help drum up donations and not for Gap and it was not gossiping, it was purely concern for the greys. I have just done a collection of blankets, food and toys for the greys in kennels in Sydney. I do transports and homechecks out of my own pocket and don't ever say I don't worry about the dogs that are dying What concern? They were not in danger simply needed foster homes sorry your ever so perfect rescues have never had anything go wrong. I think we did well in handling the situation and the dogs were not ever in danger.

OFFS You really think we would let lucky go out how she is? You all have fun laughing and poking fun and enjoy my stress you can all sleep well at night knowing I am stressed, sad, tired and been in tears for 2 days. Hope your happy I am so done with this

Rebanne if your going to throw your crap around get the story straight please

They are not up for sale, they are posted on my facebook, and Ina is posted on egreyhound. They wouldnt be going to be adopted until they are ready. So new rule no rescue can place a dog on a site unless its ready to be homed? Gotcha should I alert all rescues with dogs up that arnt ready for adoption right that minute
-
actually you posted about your problems on another FB page, not on your own. As I said the greyhound world is small. If you had listerned and acted upon some of the advice given here you would now not be in this position. But no, you knew best and now the dogs are paying for it. The dogs always pay in the end. Please get over yourself! The dogs are not paying the dogs are fine. Yeah I figured a FB group would be a help clearly none with you in them you might be surprised what groups I am part of. No doubt a lot, you need to spread yourself out so you can maximize your drama intake.

Pretty much done just need to get the paperwork which is in the mail (i hope) and then that's it. The greys in the shelters up there dont need help anyway they are generally safe with a great rescue up there so they have it covered. Like i said I took the advice here networked with some great rescues.

Oh, right. We've also taken on dogs from other Rescues when they've felt they weren't properly equipped so I don't see a huge issue with that either. Whatever's best for the dog. Ah but Plan B the drama queens just suck this up and I hate to think that people with so little compassion are working with rescues Most of the people who have posted in this thread work with rescues, run them, or have some interest and/or involvement with rescue. This isn't a group of people throwing tomatoes from the ringside, they're already in there getting their hands dirty. I don't even know what to say. You can reject everybody's advice, put your head in the sand and assure people that you know what you're doing and you've got it under control. But when the first thing that happens is an emergency that means others step in and take things off your hands.. please, please please take a step back. Re-evaluate this situation with a cool head. There's being ill equipped to deal with someone or something, and then there' embarking on something and being in over your head. First we had 1 rescue take 1 dog there are many rescues that need help from time to time. If your perfect rescue has never had a problem good for you but when it does I hope you get kicked around just as much because then you can feel how it feels to be upset then finally have time to sit down and go to a forum where you think you have support and people who care to update them to find them taking your situation and talking shit. I did take advice, I did give a ton of people here the benefit of the doubt and sucked it up and listened, even respected them but now thats gone what a petty childish bunch we have here.

maybe, maybe not, who knows. Do greys that are not good with little dogs usually get adopted? I wouldn't adopt out a greyhound that was not tolerant of little dogs. It is too important to the greyhounds to take the chance. This is going to sound really harsh but, for the greater good, I'd PTS any greyhound that is not ok with little dogs. They don't have to live with one but you must be able to walk your greyhound down the street without it wanting to kill the little dog on the oppoiste side. To me, greyhounds are up against it, though GAP, GSN, etc have done an huge job, plus all the other reputable rescues and their foster carers and the owners of these beautiful dogs. As a greyhound owner, even though not of adopted race dogs, I am always aware that my dogs behaviour is most likely being judged and commented on by the general public while we are out and about. That's very true. Kind of like bull breed owners and rescuers. As one lady who works with bullies said to me a while back "There's too many good bulls breeds that need a home to focus on trying to fix a very DA one. While everyone is trying to fix this dog, there's one with perfect manners on the kill list being ignored." Ina doesnt need to be put down, she very well may be good with small dogs we dont know these people are making assumptions when they havent even seen the dog. I was asking a question. I wasn't attacking. i don't know anything about grey rescue or their protocols is all. Oh I didnt mean to quote you sorry was meaning to quote the one above you sorry
