Just rang pet insurance australia and just had confirmed that pet insurance doesn't work like humans and roll over. If I am to take out a new policy with a new company all previous conditions will not be covered. Look I am happy with Petplan but don't remember signing up to $500 excess. I never got an insurance certificate, just got an email saying that payment has been received and outlining my policy as I have stated in my above comments and nowhere on there does it mention $500 excess or excess in general. I can't see why I would have taken out $500 excess when it is per claim not per calendar year. $500 doesn't make sense. Then when I get the renewal notice it is automatically set to $150 no option or asking if I wish to increase to decrease.

Thank you Tintin Jac for your response. I would leave petplan in a heartbeat but what concerns me is that I have made a large claim with petplan for an MRI scan that showed my Ruby has mild signs of Syringomyelia, no medication yet but in the future she will need this. If I am to change insurance companies they may say that because the condition is pre existing to the new company and therefore will not cover her. I have just paid the renewal and it was $245 increase annually.

I have read it now and it does not state that the first 12 months is automatically $500. When I went online to make a fake quote there isn't even a $590 excess option

What ombudsmen? is there a pet insurance one? I can see I may have signed up for $500 excess if it were based on calendar year... but per condition sounds really stupid to me!!! I think it's the financial ombudsman: http://www.fos.org.au/ The excess per condition is actually pretty good and makes a lot of sense - well it does when the excess is $150 which is more normal... I'm more concerned about why, if you chose a $500 excess deliberately, then would have then changed you to a $150 excess on renewal, without consulting you. If the premiums are similar then it makes you wonder why you're paying the same for a better policy. Thanks. I have sumitted a claim with them. PetPlan have had enough time to contact me to discuss this matter I no long want to deal with them. I could understand if the renewal came at $500 because I had it previously but I went online to get a quote and they don't even offer $500 excess which makes me think they are trying to get out of paying up!!!!

to update I searched through my emails and found an email with receipt of payment and insurance policy details "Policy Number: TOLL012-DB-00015802 Insurance Type: Budget Dog Plan Policy Commencement Date: 13/11/2013 Payment Method: Credit/Debit Card Payment Frequency: Yearly Premium Amount: $ 435.00 Taxes included: Stamp Duty/Tax: $ 37.75 GST: $ 36.11 Receipt Number: 97426670 Receipt Date: 13/11/2013" that is all the email said. Nothing about excess. Do I have a leg to stand on arguing there is no excess mentioned on the policy emailed to me? Who do I contact to take further action, is there a pet insurance ombudsmen?

Long story short... 14 month old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Had petplan pet insurance since 8 weeks of age. When I signed up I wasn't proactive and never actually got an insurance certificate or receipt of payment. Now 12 months later I get a renewal and make payment. Still no receipt but that is not the issue. New certificate says $150 excess so I assume that is what I had in the past 12 months. I go to a lot of effort getting all previous vet appointments claim's filled out. Ruby had a UTI, hurt her elbow, tummy bug and had an MRI. Combined total close to $3000 but because the first 3 separately fall under $500 all claims were denied. I tried calling to discuss this matter, Friday on hold for 30mins, Saturday on hold for 20mins, Monday on hold for 45mins, no answer and I was asked to leave my name, number and a short message and they would get back to me, still waiting for a response. So I decided to email them, got a response just basically saying too bad you have $500 excess. I asked for documentation proving the $500 excess but they are going around about not giving me the evidence. I regret renewing my insurance for the next 12 months. Is there a way I can cancel my policy and get a refund for the 12 months paid? My next question is now that i know the excess is per claim not per calendar year what happens if I was to transfer insurance companies and say she hurt her elbow again, would the new company deem it pre existing and not cover because she didn't have insurance with them? Or does it work like us humans, we change companies and the new company honors the previous insurance and waives waiting periods etc? I am very confused by the pet insurance industry and am very unhappy with petplan. Can anyone offer any advise to my situation?

Well I didn't tell my mum until I brought her home. It was a rough 24 hours as I was planning to return her to the breeder. I guess then my mum saw how much Ruby ment to me and gave in. She doesn't touch Ruby but speaks to her. Puppy school was good but I do need to change a lot of what I'm doing, not sure if I want to but I'll see how we go

Hi everyone, This is my second attempt of uploading photos of my new puppy, Ruby, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. She is now 11 weeks and starts puppy pre school tonight. Ruby at 5 weeks, I went to visit the breeder and the litter, Ruby came right over to me and fell asleep in my arms, she was barely walking. Ruby at 6 weeks, went to visit again and she fell asleep in my arms again

Ill work on that today. I've been taking soo many photos of her

Vets this morning for check over. She is all good I just have to monitor her for any signs of delayed concussion, lucky I'm unemployed. Thank you everyone :)

Thank you everyone. I have been monitoring her and she is perking up. She ate some dinner, it's been hot last few days so she hasn't been eating all her food. No blood, no crying, no issues when I pat her on the head. I've decided to bring her to the vet tomorrow morning as I do need to weigh her and I'll speak to the vet nurses and go from there. Honestly I don't think it's worth the risk for a $60 consult.

I have an 11 week old cavalier King Charles spaniel. Today it was hot so we stayed inside. When it got cooler we went outside for a brush when it was cooler. I carried her outside and as I went to put her down she squirmed and fell out of my hands at knee length and went head first into the patio tiles. She didn't cry but since then she has been very quiet. What signs or symptoms should I be looking for if there is any damage or if I should take her to the vet. I have her a treat afterwards and she ate that down as usual. I'm a first time mummy and I can't believe I let this happen to my little girl

Thanks for the in depth reply. My previous dog was fussy so she got chicken and eventually a special dried food to help with her diabetes so I've never had to become familiar with different foods. I might do some research on ingredients in the foods as there are soo many on the market. I would be more likely to buy a product if the dog on the packet is cute, just like the my dog dog is adorable. In the past when money was tight, my turtles were eating live fish, frozen seafood, high quality plants etc while I had 2 min noodles. I would starve in order for my animals to be safe and healthy as they don't have a choice but I have a choice to what goes into their mouths :)

Can I ask a question about dog foods. I'm looking around and there are heaps of brands all at different prices. My question is 1 - what do you feed your dog? & 2 - does expensive mean better quality ? I've seen the my dog puppy packs, looking at this for my puppy but after feedback about your experience

You have a good memory. Yes it was me, back then I thought I could keep a Labrador, talk about the worst decision that would have been. My mum is unwell and I suffer mental health issues and have injuries which is stopping me from work. I have 3 turtles that require everything if not more than a dog does besides the walks, toilet training. I believe a dog will help both of us mental wise. And for me would get me back out into the world as I've lost all my friends since my injuries and I spend most of my days in bed or on the couch because I don't see a lot of point in life. A dog would be ae to show me the world through their eyes and teach me to love again.

I'm seeing the puppies in a few weeks as they are only about 4 weeks old and not ready to go. All checks and registered breeder all good. Just have to convince my mum this is a good decision, I don't see what her issue is with it all
-
I even more ready now. I have photos of the puppies that I can choose from. I'm in love. Just hope I can get the idea into my mums head
-
Thanks I will :)

Thank you for all the advise. All I need to do now is get my mum on board

Getting a puppy and interested in hearing about good & bad stories Noticed medibank private has 3 levels but the top cover only Covers up to $165 general check ups/vaccination yetthe next lower works out to be just under $200 cheaper a year so it really seems the best deal. After some advise
